I've watched your videos and I'd like to think that you're a good example of someone who doesn't fall into this catergory of people that Jordan uses as his example; that is, those who are 30-year old infants. You've had some life experiences, went ahead and put some heavy thought into it, then you put these thoughts out onto the internet for people to hear. I can't say I've benefitted much from hearing what you've said, but you're certainly needed. Some of the people our age are struggling out there...

@Katherine Grace One of the things I love reading Tolkien is imagining him making up the story to The Hobbit to his kids. Or I'm going back through The Iliad atm, and imagining the dozens of generations of the oldest man in the community telling the tales of glory and heroism of people long, long past, to the newest generation (until someone re-invents writing in Homer's time. The Greek Dark Ages were a legit thing, after the Bronze Age Collapse they *literally forgot how to write* and would instead tell stories of the amazing architecture about them, that they must have been built by giant "cyclopes", ie. "cyclopean architecture", using stones so immense they couldn't even conceive how to move them... anymore... because they somehow forgot what they once knew how to do.)

If you don't sacrifice your time and effort when you are young to gain a skill and career and improve yourself, you are sacrificing your future for an ephemeral present stagnation. And honestly, it sucks. Because I have to start from close to zero to correct the fact that I didn't choose to start truly growing up until the past few years, in my mid-30s and not too far from 40 now. But, hey, 40 is the new 20, so I'm going to make something of myself beyond a little fool who never got off his ass and learned a career.

It only took my childhood and entire adolescence, and however much excruciating pain it brings me I wish I could have realised this 10 years ago, and been able to start steering in the right direction back then. I finally can now, and it makes me so happy. I will do whatever it takes to make sure my parents and grandparents dysfunctions never get perpetuated to my future children.

I had what people would call "old school parenting". I ended up spending so much of my life doing things to get back at my parents for my childhood. Now, no matter how mad I get with my son in law, I take a second and choose the path that will get the best results. He is flourishing in an environment that values communication over physical abuse. Can't change the past, but I can change the future. And it's so satisfying. He's a straight A student and it just took parenting I wish I had.

@Darren some people have a hard time fully accepting God's Word. Jordan Peterson is that type of person, and it's obvious if you watch his videos over time and he is coming more and more to accept God. Also, God knows that there is good that a believer can learn from a gentile. Remember the tale of the Good Samaritan? That was God showing his believers how to behave using the example of a non-believer. You assume that learning a psychological interpretation of God's word will drive people away from god, and in the process attempt to drive people away from someone who can guide believers who lack guidance to a better and more Godly life.

I needed to see this, today. Mid 50s (ouch) Aussie, single Male, living in a Van (4 wheels) with my dog, on the east coast. I thought I was living the dream, staying at beaches, rivers etc. but I have been procrastinating since a work injury, years ago. No paperwork. Major issues with my neck now. I've bought everything I need, solar, batteries etc, to be self sufficient but just haven't put it all together, yet. Also, I'm paying for a storage unit, full of "stuff"! Time to get my ass into gear & live my life, free from all of the unnecessary junk ,which clogs up my head & holds me back from actually living my dream. I'm close to that but the final steps will free my mind. Thank you! Big fan, by the way & the artist is amazing, too!!!

Yeah.. Here’s a couple quotes from Joseph Campbell I like on the subject: “If you live with the myths in your mind, you will find yourself always in mythological situations. They cover everything that can happen to you. And that enables you to interpret the myth in relation to life, as well as life in relation to myth.” And more importantly, “It has been well said that mythology is the penultimate truth -- penultimate because the ultimate cannot be put into words.” The truth in “myths”, as it were, definitely captures the mind and causes you to orient yourself in a way no amount of reasoning will. Maybe, as JBP has said, truth is that which serves life, after all. Personally, I’m agnostic but getting quite interested in religion.

I have been watching so many Jordan B. Peterson videos, you have heightened my interest in psychology. No matter how many people tell me not to pursue it, how it is not worthwhile, I always come back to these videos and find complete enjoyment and intrigue. I am 21 with a toddler, I dropped out of college after my father passed away because I felt no motivation to go. I am planning on a career in psychology, and to always continue learning about it no matter how old I get. Not only do I get a rush of serotonin from learning about psychology but also from telling others about what I learned. My dream from a junior in high school, was to teach psychology, and I have finally came to the mindset that I do not care what others may say or think, this is my path, I am not running anymore. Thank you Jordan B. Peterson for the impact you have had on my life, and so many others. Also, thank God he showed me your videos that led me to an adoration of your knowledge and perspectives. I truly believe this is the path He wants me to take. I could go on and on, but for the sake of simplicity I will say good day.

Because of Dr. Peterson, I'm going to pick my damn sacrifice. I'm going to take actions. There are things that I want to achieve in life but I was too self conscious or afraid in general. I've come to realize that my inaction is me sacrificing my dreams for temporary comfort. And that's a stupid sacrifice... I have been dealing with self conciseness most of my life. The only time I wasn’t self conscious was probably when I was kid - when I wasn’t smart enough to care about what other people thought. I have been working on it and one thing I’m going to do is to document this journey and force myself to do things that I truly want to achieve, despite it could be uncomfortable during the process. At some point we all must learn that our value comes from God, not other people. We can spend our life trying to please others, be accepted,… and then one thing can disappoint them and it’s our own fault because we so look for approval from others. Why? I am learning that God, my Father, loves me and I am of great value to Him. So when I get that look from my husband, son, whoever….instead of receiving their disappointment and devaluing myself, I put on the brakes, rethink it, and let it go. We are our own worst enemy, often convincing ourself of things that are not true. They may be disappointed but so what. They are over it or it’s no big deal to them, meanwhile I’ve spent my day badgering myself over it. Not anymore. God has helped me redirect my thoughts. He uses people like Jordan Peterson!

It's nice to hear a Dr. and someone that's existed in the realm of academia who doesn't disparage real working class and trades jobs like many modern intellectuals sadly do, while they claim they support them at the same time use them as examples of idiots. I've known many people in the trades world who I can easily say are far brighter and wiser than many of my professors in college. A good friend of mine who is an electrician in his spare time studies the classics as a self improving hobby. He has read almost all of the works of the stoics and makes excellent argument for how that philosophy would improve modern man. A bachelor's degree is in no way a good indicator of someone's intellect, he has done more with his life to help his family and community through what he does than he gets credit for.

@@BrianLarney as someone with degrees who ended up doing a trades job I can say the following: 1. I know of zero actual professors who openly disparage the trades and in fact most of them respect the trades. 2. The career development wing, and high school advisors that I grew up with had a message that was essentially, if you don’t go to college you are a failure. Combine that with an entire generation that was raised with the idea that going to the trades was basically a sign that you weren’t intelligent or disciplined enough to go to college. I don’t think you’ll find a professor going, “fuck electricians man, they are stupid.” But to deny that the message in the educational system is pro college to a point that it is in effect anti-trade is to deny reality, the reality that I have huge struggles finding young people who want to enter the trades, but luckily it is starting to change. Likely due to the massive school loans problem in America.

Bread Cereal - I agree: watching his videos is like being given a buffet platter with so many different things on it, but only the tiniest morsel of each (or you couldn't get them all on one plate). Or like finding an unknown zip file on your computer that, when you open it, it's so big it takes up your entire hard drive and then some! You never know just how deep these concepts go until you try to unpack them, and the further you go, the more there is to learn in each one.

I wish you could know how much these 'lectures' resonate with some, how acutely we listen realizing how much we've needed to hear them. You're a poet of truths, life lessons that inspire monumental changes. You help people grow into the person they were afraid to believe they could be. Thank you, from one of those people.

Maybe others made the same comments before, but this is so accurate. I hope people that need him as the “father figure” can “meet”him through his teaching. My father passed away when I was 20, after leaving me a strong value system for life. But as an adult and a mother nowadays, I still am learning so much from him. Somewhat a different version of fatherly wisdom.

My father is awesome, I love him. Thank god I have him. However, Jordan Peterson gives advice on a level, I think almost no dad on the world could give... So I could still consider him a father figure even though I already have a great one

Sadly they are too deep into the rabbit hole of *insert ideology here*. Is even worse given how he cannot help but crying when talking or being told about horrible live experiences from others, that alone is why I like the guy. Crying for others is evidence that humans can be more.

They are all projecting their envy and try to push their own agendas, nothing more than this. I remember someone arguing saying "nobody in academia respects Jordan Peterson" as a way to suggest one shouldn't listen to him. My instant thought was "This tells me I'm on the right track in believing in him because academics are mostly dreadful"

I am so grateful to have found Jordan Peterson. I’ve been on my “Peterson” journey for about 3 months. Regardless of how some people react to me when I mention him, because if you talk to me long enough I will inevitably mention him, I know my life has gotten better since I’ve been listening and learning. I really appreciate him sharing his insight and knowledge with the world. I’ll always be listening

When you see that it's no longer "popular" to speak about things that pertain unto life, that's when you can see how badly we have fallen as a society, marvelous video. It's sad, there are so many things that this video can teach a person if you can only humble yourself. Why should we live in an immoral, nihilistic society if we actually have the power to make the good decisions that not only benefit ourselves and our character but eventually ripple and inspire others to do so.
