The Greek Dark Ages were a legit thing, after the Bronze Age Collapse they *literally forgot how to write* and would instead tell stories of the amazing architecture about them, that they must have been built by giant "cyclopes", ie. @Darren some people have a hard time fully accepting God's Word. Jordan Peterson is that type of person, and it's obvious if you watch his videos over time and he is coming more and more to accept God. Also, God knows that there is good that a believer can learn from a gentile. Remember the tale of the Good Samaritan? That was God showing his believers how to behave using the example of a non-believer. You assume that learning a psychological interpretation of God's word will drive people away from god, and in the process attempt to drive people away from someone who can guide believers who lack guidance to a better and more Godly life.

Yeah.. Here’s a couple quotes from Joseph Campbell I like on the subject: “If you live with the myths in your mind, you will find yourself always in mythological situations. They cover everything that can happen to you. And that enables you to interpret the myth in relation to life, as well as life in relation to myth.” And more importantly, “It has been well said that mythology is the penultimate truth -- penultimate because the ultimate cannot be put into words.” The truth in “myths”, as it were, definitely captures the mind and causes you to orient yourself in a way no amount of reasoning will. Maybe, as JBP has said, truth is that which serves life, after all. Personally, I’m agnostic but getting quite interested in religion.

I have been watching so many Jordan B. Peterson videos, you have heightened my interest in psychology. No matter how many people tell me not to pursue it, how it is not worthwhile, I always come back to these videos and find complete enjoyment and intrigue. I am 21 with a toddler, I dropped out of college after my father passed away because I felt no motivation to go. I am planning on a career in psychology, and to always continue learning about it no matter how old I get. Not only do I get a rush of serotonin from learning about psychology but also from telling others about what I learned. My dream from a junior in high school, was to teach psychology, and I have finally came to the mindset that I do not care what others may say or think, this is my path, I am not running anymore. Thank you Jordan B. Peterson for the impact you have had on my life, and so many others. Also, thank God he showed me your videos that led me to an adoration of your knowledge and perspectives. I truly believe this is the path He wants me to take. I could go on and on, but for the sake of simplicity I will say good day.

Because of Dr. Peterson, I'm going to pick my damn sacrifice. I'm going to take actions. There are things that I want to achieve in life but I was too self conscious or afraid in general. I've come to realize that my inaction is me sacrificing my dreams for temporary comfort. And that's a stupid sacrifice... I have been dealing with self conciseness most of my life. The only time I wasn’t self conscious was probably when I was kid - when I wasn’t smart enough to care about what other people thought. I have been working on it and one thing I’m going to do is to document this journey and force myself to do things that I truly want to achieve, despite it could be uncomfortable during the process. At some point we all must learn that our value comes from God, not other people. We can spend our life trying to please others, be accepted,… and then one thing can disappoint them and it’s our own fault because we so look for approval from others. Why? I am learning that God, my Father, loves me and I am of great value to Him. So when I get that look from my husband, son, whoever….instead of receiving their disappointment and devaluing myself, I put on the brakes, rethink it, and let it go. We are our own worst enemy, often convincing ourself of things that are not true. They may be disappointed but so what. They are over it or it’s no big deal to them, meanwhile I’ve spent my day badgering myself over it. Not anymore. God has helped me redirect my thoughts. He uses people like Jordan Peterson!

It's nice to hear a Dr. and someone that's existed in the realm of academia who doesn't disparage real working class and trades jobs like many modern intellectuals sadly do, while they claim they support them at the same time use them as examples of idiots. I've known many people in the trades world who I can easily say are far brighter and wiser than many of my professors in college. A good friend of mine who is an electrician in his spare time studies the classics as a self improving hobby. He has read almost all of the works of the stoics and makes excellent argument for how that philosophy would improve modern man. A bachelor's degree is in no way a good indicator of someone's intellect, he has done more with his life to help his family and community through what he does than he gets credit for.

Share some of those disparaging remarks about real working class and trades jobs from many modern intellectuals. I've yet to hear any and I'm curious.
@garlowloke3 жыл бұрын
@@BrianLarney as someone with degrees who ended up doing a trades job I can say the following: 1. I know of zero actual professors who openly disparage the trades and in fact most of them respect the trades. 2. The career development wing, and high school advisors that I grew up with had a message that was essentially, if you don’t go to college you are a failure. Combine that with an entire generation that was raised with the idea that going to the trades was basically a sign that you weren’t intelligent or disciplined enough to go to college. I don’t think you’ll find a professor going, “fuck electricians man, they are stupid.” But to deny that the message in the educational system is pro college to a point that it is in effect anti-trade is to deny reality, the reality that I have huge struggles finding young people who want to enter the trades, but luckily it is starting to change. Likely due to the massive school loans problem in America.
