So pleased that the diff isn't in loads of pieces internally once it was taken off, personally I think it looks spot on. Always nice when the Mrs buys you tools for the car.

@@sleepycatpictures1176 I've been dropping hints to my Mrs for a impact wrench handy for the discovery but falling on deaf ears 😂

@@landroverman79 Women don't get it. You have to drag them down to the tool shop and say "That would come in really handy and seeing as it's Christmas . . . !"

Hello Derek, happy new year to you and your good lady. The diff looks quite good for the mileage, quite clean. Some time down the track, I might remove the axles from mine and replace the CV joint boots, check the CV´s and if OK, re-grease them. Your video will be a great help in this. Many years ago, I replace both diffs in a series 2A LR, as after fitting a 3ltr 6 cylinder Holden motor, the ration was too low. Fitted two diffs from a 3ltr Rover sedan. Was much younger then, now 73.

Morning Derek. Sorry I'm late to the party on this one. To be fair, for the mileage you say that diff has done, I'd say that's looking blooming good to be fair. And the BONUS was the 2 x circlips were still there. And no metal chunks or chip missing visible. Glad all went went. Great content as usual mate. Stay lucky. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Here's looking forward to the fleet trials & tribulations this year. Alan L200

Thanks Alan! I could not see anything wrong with it. I'm going to try and put the lot back together today, weather permitting! That piece must have been from a previous break and the casing not cleaned out properly. Sorry for the late reply, Freda has been poorly. We spent most of Wednesday in the LGI in Leeds. She is okay now, turned out to be Vertigo - the disease, not the Hitchcock film!

Happy New Year Derek. Unless you are doing your cv joint boots you could have left the hubs on their splines. Regards

Hi Derek, i think that bit of metal you found in the diff must have been from something that didn't require the diff to come out to replace, maybe the pinion bearing, it almost looks like part of a preload washer, i carnt believe anyone would leave that in the housing if they were replacing the diff, it doesn't make sense. I recon the housing has been removed to do the pinion bearing and they didn't check below the diff gears in the space at the bottom for debris.

Hi David, me too. A bit was left in and caused this entire charade. The final drive unit was fine. But the only way to be sure was to take it out.
