I really appreciate you looking at this game with a literary eye, but also very aware of the mechanics. Nice balance

4:35 I'm sure you'll have figured this out by the time these videos come up but "Esprit de Corps" is the connection you, as a cop, have to other cops, so when Esprit de Corps says "he's your half brother", what it's *actually* saying is he's a cop too, just from a different precinct than yours, which Kim immediately confirms in the next sentence. No familial ties

While I usually agree that one wouldn't need the adverb in the sentence, "he replied tersely", because of the voice acting, Disco Elysium actually had an entire VO overhaul with the Final Cut update. Before, hardly anything was VO'd, so the prosaic dialogue had to do much more of the heavy lifting.

22:03 part of the reason its written down "Yes" he responds tersely." - its most likely for accessibility reason eg someone is deaf or hard of hearing and still wants to play the game

I'm wondering if ZA/UM has been messing with the game with one of their patches. I swear that in that discussion with Garte the option was just "Who, me?", without the "play the fool" prefix. The former was funny because Harry didn't understand him, the second is just him being annoying (and also not leaving it up to player interpretation or roleplaying which it is) I swear the voice actors talk faster, too.

They definitely re-recorded a bunch of the dialogue (or patched in alternate takes i guess). I played it enough to have some of the dialogue burned into my brain and have noticed quite a few changes over the last years. Some things are only very slightly different, but for some parts they seem to have told the actors to read their lines much faster in a way that sounds unnatural and noticably rushed. Very strange decision and a big bummer to see the current undead zombie version of ZA/UM mess with the game after they got rid of the original devs.
