For some people that are not sure what "Arcanum" is... First of all - shame on you xD Second - it's "Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura". a very "obscura" game in todays day and age ;-) And third - install "Unofficial Arcanum Patch 2.0.2" for better gaming experience and less bugs!

Picked it up on Steam day one and loving what they've created so far. The foundation is there. I'm really pulling for them to deliver on this one. Could be a very special game in the end.

I vote adding half troll, or half ogre. Half Giant would be awesome too. Most DMs wouldn't let you play one, even if they exist and only really Arcanum or Dark Sun: The Shattered Lands lets you play either a half ogre or a half giant. They could still add things, so it would be nice. Also - Tempus Fugit! I mean fudge it. I mean- aw hell you know what I mean. (The magic in arcanum was awesome sounding; but it was hard to pick which school you wanted with limited points)

Eh, you had me at Arcanum but the longer I look at this the more I realize that it doesn't have the vibe of Arcanum that I want, just the "Magic and Tech conflict" which is sort of whatever on it's own. It reminds me visually much more of Bioshock but as an RPG.

You had me at Arcanum. Buggy as that game was, it's still one my all time faves. I've been interested in this game since the reveal, so it's nice to hear it's development is going well in EA. I'll almost certainly wait for the official full release, but I'm tentatively excited for this one for sure!

I understamd the comparasion because the magical/industrial revolution isn’t often seen in an RPG (high fantasy generally is set in medival europe) and the CRPG parts, but I worry about the precedent it sets, I hope the devs develop the game further and build something that stands and shines on it's own, Im excited for it

Appreciate the take. The game looks a bit flat (boardwise) which is something I have been getting disgruntled about. Wrath of the Righteous has enough going on for me to look past it, but I enjoy games where terrain traversal is key. War of the Lions and Tactics Advance are early examples, and then obviously BG3 is a current with Solasta being slightly ahead because of the way they implemented Fly in the game.

What we need is a modernized Arcanum (by that I mean SANS all the old bugs + STRONGER lore + depth) with a way bigger meaningful and alive open world AND ACTION BASED. Turn based to me only works well in NWN and even then that's highly debatable...

because its hard and expensive, BG3 was already SOOO expensive, imagine if they also had to focus on FPS or 3ps animations during real time combat, making a sword feel good to swing, making magic feel impactful, encounter design is now harder because how do you make fights difficult? most fights just make bullet sponges similar to dragon age veilguard, CRPGs allow more control over the encounter design and mechanics. CRPGs are great because the way they alienate, there just isnt enough budget to do both

In some cases I see them as scam - start look promising and after they get enough money - they give up. Yes, I'm looking at you, Shadow of doubt!
