The best part about that email from Discord is the wording "we believe". They "believe" the risk is limited, but they're not telling you it's limited because they didn't care enough to do a proper security review after the fact. Also take note of the intentional omission of any kind of scope or time frame (besides "brief"). We don't know how long the hacker had access to their support system, and we don't know how many tickets were compromised as a result. For all we know this hacker had access for weeks or months. And for all we know they had access to Discord's entire user catalogue, complete with emails attached to usernames. *Maybe even the ability to query any message from any server or any direct message conversation using just a Message ID, since they need that for their harassment investigation.* And worst of all... there was no security audit done. All they did was deactivate ONE account, and malware scan ONE machine. And then tell their support contractor to "improve their practices". So for all we know, the hackers have 10 other machines and accounts, still with full access to support tickets and attachments and all the "admin tools" that comes with it. Jesus christ discord.

If they have a photo of you with the id, it takes 1.5 minutes to register a handful of bank accounts online, like Revolut, Wirex, etc, buy phones at carriers where the first month is free, and whatever. Then the FBI pulls up to the afterparty and you'll have a lot of explaining to do.

Well, Revolut, N26, etc. are usually so sketchy that you don‘t even require a valid ID.

I hate discord support. I had my email hacked recently which led to the hacker getting access to my Discord account and several other accounts. I contacted Discord support for help and the response I got word for word was "I'm so sorry to hear that your account got hacked. I can imagine how troubling it is to be in this situation. Thank you for your screenshots providing proof of ownership of the account, however, we cannot change the email address associated with your account for security reasons. Please contact us using the email associated with the account for assistance." Bruh, the email was hacked, and no longer exists as I explained in my support ticket. Every other support team I contacted was much better, and helped me after I provided proof of account ownership.

First of all: Read between the lines when sending your ID, they want you to show your ID containing your age and picture; that's it. In that case, black everything else out. you should never send a complete photo of your ID just to get your discord account back.

Opened new account because discord said I was a bot, (sent my server's link to my friends) and locked my acc until I give them my info. I closed that account and opened a new one. That doesn't make sense. The valuable things associated with the userid are email, phonenumber and probably billing information. Removing userids doesn't cahge the value of those infos, especially because they want to keep particial support for adding people via userid for some time.

Just in case, you should change your password and make sure 2FA is enabled on your account. Even if it's just support who was hacked and you haven't gotten the email. It never hurts to change your password after a breach like this.
