Amber Sheehan, occupational therapist: "CIMT stands for Constraint Induced Movement Therapy. It's the gold standard intervention for kids who have limited use of one of their arms."
Becky Reder: "You make it so that it's harder for the child to use the hand that works well and they're forced to use the hand that is affected and we may do that by constraining it with a splint. We actually may put a cast on it that can be removed, it might be a puppet."
Amber Sheehan: "If we don't constrain her stronger arm, that's what she uses all the time, and so with the constraint on, she can get more intensive practice with her left hand in hopes that becomes stronger and more coordinated so that she can use it more often."
Becky Reder: "It has gotten fabulous results. It actually is the best intervention that is out there for children that have some sort of condition that affects one side of their body."
