I used to play Wacko at the local Chuck E Cheese. It was by far the loudest game in the place. I love how the arcade is slanted. It always stood out from other cabinets. It used a marble madness type roller ball to control the alien quickly and a joystick to shoot in four directions. It was a casual easy game that I could play for ten minutes so I felt I got my quarters worth. The interesting thing was over the years arcades would come and go at the Chuck E Cheese but Wacko remained. For about 10 years it sat in it's spot. People rarely played it so the game was in great condition. When the cool game was Mortal Kombat I would still play Wacko.

Very cool vid! When I was growing up in the 80's, we didn't have an arcade in the small town I lived in but we did have a roller skating rink that had several games. One of them was Roc'n Rope, so I am very familiar with that one - great game!

Ok smart guy. I bought Sonics Ultimate Genesis Collection mostly for Sonic. I bought it when it was new. Ive only recently started to play some of the other games. I don't have a huge collection either. Obviously MJ is just joking around here but damn not everyone who buys a compilation game is going to play every game. Id bet most people are in a similar boat as me and mainly buy them for a couple of games that they remember playing as a kid. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Though the MSX had tons of Konami titles and various legends like Metal Gear were originated on the system, the MSX also had an imense library of games from other publishers. Plus, it was never funded by Konami and it's not a specific computer. In fact, it's a standard architecture that was largely adopted in Japan, Northern Europe and Latin America.

There is one compilation I would add to this. The Sega Dreamcast had an official magazine that came with a disc full of game demos. I believe it was the Christmas disc that had a full game called Sega Swirl. While it was a pain to start the game because you had to start the web browser to gain access to the game the effort was worth it. Sega Swirl was a fun game for me. It is what I would consider a party game because it supported four players and had tons of game modes. My favorite mode was where each player had their own section of the screen and battled to a preset score. Lots of fun memories with that one. BONUS: put that disc in your PC to install Sega Swirl on your Windows system. Although it won't have some of the features found in the Dreamcast version.

Coming Backery is indeed a very nice MSX game, i own the cartridge but there are a ton of great Konami MSX games on that cd that are even better. The MSX was very populair in Japan, Korea, Europe (besides the UK and Germany) and South America and for sure more countries. The Konami games made it a real C64 killer.

As soon as I saw the Konami compilation for DS, I knew it would be Roc 'n' Rope. Did you know they put out a spiritual successor to it for the Famicom in 1987 called Arumana no Kiseki? Now that's a hidden gem!
@JohnRiggs7 жыл бұрын
Arumana no Kiseki rules! I have it on my FDS.
@willmistretta7 жыл бұрын
Oh, and Taito Legends 2 also has Sylvalion (by the designer of Bubble Bobble), which is one of the weirdest arcade games ever made. Not only does it use an early form of adaptive procedural generation to determine the enemy placement in stages, it also has a randomized storyline that's different each time you play. It's kind of like a Choose Your Own Adventure book except it flips to random pages on its own and they're all totally bonkers and oddly translated.

So cool. I'd love to have a real FDS (and a real Famicom) someday.

Roc 'N Rope has a similar mechanic to a great platformer on the Famicom Disk System called Arumana no Kiseki, which was also made by Konami. On the Data East collection, Express Raider is another hidden gem; I'm not usually a big fan of the old Arcade Action games, but my lady and I played until 2am on New Year's Eve one time; it's THAT good. I'll also confirm the physical release of the PSP version of the Capcom compilation; it's called Capcom Classics Collection Remixed, and is one of the first PSP games I got.
