Marcus Roberts, J Master, the Genius, the one who has accompanied me in my happy and sad moments since "time and circumstance". Everything is good in his discography; there's nothing to throw away. His musicians are all devoted to his music, including the generous Roland Guérin who plays wonderfully in "in Honour of Duke". Marcus' music touches the soul because he plays it with his heart. How can you thank someone who, true to his music and to himself, is always there when you need him and never lets go? Music is God's gift to mankind. Marcus is the most beautiful of gifts. Thank you for everything Friend

I’ve known and admired Marcus Roberts and Jason Marsalis since the time they collaborated with Seiji Ozawa on Gershwin's classics, but this bassist is completely new to me. Rodney Jones? No, Rodney Jordan. What a great find! He’s 1 of those musicians who hit only meaningful notes with no frills, leaving enough space between notes to “ferment” groove. His bass lines just come through nice and clearly.

Some of the most cerebral jazz I've ever heard. Marcus is, of course , a master. And Jason Marsalis is the most technically perfect drummer I've encountered. This trio sets the bar way up in the rafters!

Marvelous. I wonder if someday someone will have the guts to stain their bass bridge to match the rest of the bass. It's about time I checked out what Marcus is up to. I caught him in San Francisco with Wynton at a Christmas time show about a million years ago...Venetian room? I was close, I know that.

I love Marcus' music so inspiring and invigorating. I love Jason Marsalis who is excellent as a side man and as a leader of his innovative band. I like Rodney "swing" Jordan who knows the bass like the back of his hand. But I also like Roland Guerin who is less gifted than Jordan but brings more explosiveness to an exceptional trio that is more accomplished than that of master Ahmad Jamal. In Honor of Duke and the 2009 Marciac concert are the perfect illustration of the magic of J.Master's trio

Nice comment, but what makes you think that Roland is less gifted than Rodney? Just seems like that came out of nowhere.

I don't know why some piano trios setup like that, with the bass and drums behind the pianist. I play a little piano and I want to see the other players at times. There's eye-contact and some communication there. Jeff Hamiltons trio plays behind the pianist too. I don't understand this.
