Adam Steel (often refered to as “The Reaper Guy”) is a Recording Engineer, Studio Owner, Film Sound Producer and KZbin personality from Manchester, England. His varied background and distinct Britishness draw a rapidly increasing viewership, now into several million views.
He has been professionally recording and mixing music and film sound for over 15 years, using Reaper for most of that time - garnering a reputation as a leader in the Reaper field. Through his studio, Hop Pole Studios, Adam has worked on commercial projects for Suzuki, Colgate, Nike, Manchester United to name a few, ranging from post-production editing and full album production in genres as varied as Pop Punk, Metal, Gospel and French Hip-hop to studio ADR to on-set sound production.
Adam has a passion for both technology and getting the best sounds possible from musicians and equipment. He uses methodologies and techniques he has learnt from the greats mixed in with his own unique takes. He approaches most tasks by looking to understand the fundamentals behind what needs to be achieved and then applying his knowledge and experience to find the right solution for the current goal rather than always following the status quo. That is not to say he always looks for ways to be disruptive with his techniques. Sometimes, the old ways are the best ways.

As someone noted, this is not what playlists refer to in Pro Tools. This is more akin to what the Arranger Track does in Cubase or maybe a little similar to what the memory locations can do in Pro Tools. Not that what you are showing isn’t useful, but you might consider changing the intro, as you will likely get some frustrated viewers who had hoped to find out how to make the take system in Reaper behave a bit more like playlists and instead sat through a completely unrelated video.

I still don't get how this does what protools does. Still cant duplicate drum or vocal layers for editing and keep the unedited versions underneath, for reference. Any ideas? Greetings.

This isn’t playlists from Protools. I had hoped you were talking about take playlists. Still, the takes workflow in reaper is horrendous.if you have any pull with the Devs, please mention this. Thanks!

There are quite a few scripts to make takes after recording, work nicely.. Birdbird's razor utility is really nice... Comp to target track, and things like that.. Sorta like swipe coming.. Check those out.. and maybe you could assign a custom action to explode takes and then put those tracks into a folder making the folder the target track... Also i think someone did make another script for protools style playlists.. Haven't tried it though, Perhaps look these up on the forum?

Is there a playlist for songs in Reaper. I use backing tracks and want to go from song to song. I don't care to have play list for playing sections, just to go from song to song with the song stopping at the end. Then use spacebar on laptop to start the next song.

I recently switched my Daw of choice to Reaper, and your videos very helpful. Used Pro Tools many years ago but refuse to be forced into their subscription model. The regions playlist seems very similar to Cakewalk's arranger track. Although the learning curve is a little steep for me, I'm discovering new features everyday, and have found the Reaper community to be so very helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!

I think it's great that the playlist tool can also generate a ready-made render project and isn't just a pure player.

You need to understand playlists in ProTools before you compare - there is nothing whatsoever anywhere close to ProTools playlists anywhere in this video. Your info would apply if different names/terminology was used in reference to something not-playlists but - Playlists in Pro Tools is not this - at all.

Thanks for showing this feature Adam, i have been using Regions for a while when working on my songs to move/ copy/ delete section but wasn't aware of the playlist, i will try this, Question: can this feature extend a song, e.g. maybe the chorus is too short, can it play the chorus twice?
@ktmmusiclab

Yes, just add the chorus region two times consecutively in your region playlist.

Is there anyway to see your total set time per playlist? If I have 7 songs that = 50 mins And I delete 3 at random. Will it then show you the length of that playlist now?
