University of Arkansas entomologist Austin Jones explains the co-emergence of periodical cicada broods 13 and 17 - an event that hasn’t happened since Thomas Jefferson was president - and showcases various species found in Northwest Arkansas. Learn more about these fascinating insects and what they mean for the surrounding environment and wildlife in this Discover RED video. Jones is an instructor in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences and an extension specialist and scientist with the Cooperative Extension Service of the UA System Division of Agriculture.
