Like Water For Chocolate is one of my all time favorite albums. Common was in such a groove and having the Soulquarians behind him on the boards set the tone. This record doesn’t have a single track that is skippable. Salute to Common Sense!

This album was such a classic. This is the album that made me aware of Dilla though I didn't know he was already churning out heat in the 90's. When you hear his flips of these samples it's nothing but genius. Add on Preemo, The Roots and D'angelo and Common's lyrics set up a classic release. VinRican Salute another mix well done

Year 2000! Fresh out of high school and no car. Just a bus pass and mp3 player that held 100 mbs worth of songs. This album & some loose SV songs were the only joints I needed in my growth that summer. Thank you Vin, for sparking those memories.

Wow your story relates to me so much. TBH there was a lot of great Hip Hop out at the time but that Jay Dee/SV/Common sound sounds so fresh even now. Peace from London

I drove so Many kilometers all over europe listening to this gem. Its truly one of my favorite albums of all time. I could listen to it for 800km drives. So many emotions. I miss Dilla so much.

I'm glad this one wasn't flagged and neither was the Busta episode or the Preemo/Professor one. I'm still bitter from getting to watch the Hard to Earn episode earlier in the day it was uploaded and then finding it missing a day later when I was gonna show it to a friend lol. And the damn Nate Dogg episode was smacked before I could even watch a second of it too.

As a little kid I never even liked Common. Compared to DMX and Noreaga, Commons sound was so depressing and boring. But this album was the game changer! The first 2 singles were produced by the best 2 producers ever in my ranking, 2 Classic joints. Funky For You and Nag Champa took me into a different world lol. This album changed the way I thought about Hip Hop. Dilla had reached Super Saiyan level 3 mode by now, BEAST MODE! J Dilla had this and Fantastic Vol 2 out in the SAME YEAR? He should have been crowned the best producer in the game but Hip Hop just didn't see how far ahead he was....

I could be incredibly wrong but I think this album went gold when it came out. especially when the single "The light" came out in 2000. Like I said in my previous comment on this album, my favorite albums of his are the first 4, and this is one of them. Because of his hunger for lyricism is still intact, the production and some of the features was good to have on the album too. A friend of mine met him at the airport in 2011 coming home from a trip but it was breif. He's the same person in real life as on TV. In recent years he's been consistent with that album releases which is good. He's a lethal battle rapper too. If he can go against the Westside Connection and Drake then he can go against anybody if fully provoked. To me he's one of the 🐐's!!
