I have had the privilege of meeting Jerome Selmer twice, and he is a classy gentleman all the way. I met him the first time when the Reference series saxes were introduced. He actually came over to me while I was trying a 54 alto and asked me what my thoughts were. He gave me his card and invited me to the factory in France. The second time was when they were introducing the Series II and III Jubilee saxes, and the final version of the Reference "Bird" series. He also told me about the myths and misconceptions surrounding the Mark VI. I wrote an article about that in my sax blog. In any case, he is a true gentleman.

@@adrianszajna8732 exactly. Unbearably and hideously out of tune. How did Selmer approve of this performance? It’s an insult to the new instrument. Like he didn’t even tune up to the other player; just slapped on a reed and said let’s go. “Oh I’m 35 cents sharp? Didn’t notice. No matter”. The saxophone world has moved on- fast fingered improvisers who disregard the discipline and indeed sometimes torment of dealing with saxophone intonation do the instrument a disservice. “Good intonation is for uptight classical players” is an unprofessional attitude, but seemingly still prevalent.

Jeremie Bernard the lead designer said “ for the development of the Supreme, all parts of the instrument have been redesigned for both technical and manufacturing reasons and also for reasons of instrument reliability” It scares me when a company redesigns a product solely so it can be manufactured cheaper . Selmer always used to build the best no matter the cost. From the designers own words the saxophone was redesigned so it can be manufactured easier. Those words strike fear into professional players because at the end of the day it was not redesigned with the player in mind but redesigned for a greater profit margin.

In view of the quality and the number of female musicians representing the Selmer brand, I consider this promotional video to be anachronistic. In fact, no female saxophonist is represented in the promotion of this instrument and it has nothing to do with a story of parity and quota, it should be obvious.

When was the last time you checked the price of professional flutes? Or oboes, or bassoons, violins, drum kits, pianos etc etc etc. Its a Selmer so there is an element of 'paying for the label' but any properly professional musical instrument is a significant investment, although you can reasonably expect it to last a lifetime and beyond if properly maintained. How long would you expect a 6K car to last for? If its a 'hobby' though, there are plenty of fine saxes to be had for a fraction of the cost of this one.

@@marklangsax1168 i just commented on how i felt about that, but i mostly see people play selmer saxophones if they are quite good.
