I love your videos, they are very educational. I don't have a ferret now but I am studying about them so I can be prepared when I can own one.

I love this, my recently departed baby boy bronson used to love cheek massages and belly rubs while laying on my chest. I miss him so much. ❤😢

Wondering when you were going to get to the butt scratch .... If like dogs - it is now known (and said) that if you rub their chest and thorax this stimulates the heart chakra or such nervous areas in that region that are sexually or calming for the animal. Much like the butt scratch and endorphins shooting to the head, these other chest and heart-thorax areas also provide endorphin production.

You're right! Ferrets do often behave in a similar way to dogs/cats when you scratch on the bottom of their back just before the tail! 👍

I don’t know what it is with my two ferrets. I’ve definitely bonded with them but they’re not exactly “cuddly” I literally hold them for a few seconds then they get squirmy and want to be put on the floor or climb on my shoulder to attempt to jump onto a surface. They don’t appear to like being cuddled. Do you think there’s an issue? They’re both about two years old now Great videos by the way. Very informative

Ferretsnare naturally very inquisitive, which means if you take them out if a cage, or hutch and expect to cuddle then they are usually just going to want to get down and look around. When they are most cuddly is when you are in their normal environment with them. So if you have an enclosure or a room where they free roam, then they don't have the same urge to get down. When I go in my enclosure some of mine practically beg for cuddles. But as soon as I take them out, then they're totally squirmy. We have a couple of ferrets however who just never want to cuddle.

My kit really goes made n doesn't calm when scuffed, any tips? Also he wants fuss but can't seem to not mouth. Will this calm?
@kingsdownferrets8485 Жыл бұрын
You say kit, so I guess he is young? Young ferrets are very crazy and quite nippy so this is not a surprise. There isn't much you can do, and really they just have so much energy and so much learning to do. It does calm down over the first few months of ownership, so hold in there!

@@kingsdownferrets8485 ye I was thinking he is just playing and he gives me lots of kicks n lays on his back n asks for fuss but he is starting to cheese grate me n finds it so much fun. I'm sort of stuck knowing the line to draw. I don't want to punish him for play but also not sure if it will calm down as his teeth are getting stronger. Do I just punish wen it hurts or when he is a bit obsessive? Scuffing seems to get him riled up lol
@kingsdownferrets8485 Жыл бұрын
@katetorode8411 when they are young they will play quite aggressively and be nippy. You can look forward to this improving over his first year, but in the mean time you can punish him via non physical means such as to simply put him down and walk away. They will start to learn that if they take it too far then they don't get to play anymore. Some people have success with also using a firm voice command, either "No!" or sometimes a sound like a Squeak or 'owch!' which they can recognise as pain shout. This is how fellow ferrets would communicate that the play is too rough. It's not usually advisable to use physical punishment like scuffing or hitting their nose or anything.

@@kingsdownferrets8485 thanks ye he doesn't like scuffing so I don't do it, n would never hit, I tried jail but I feel bad lol I'm using put on floor n walk away with a firm no. Good to know that I just need to persevere thanks. Wish there were classes we could go to together.

I tried doing the knuckle cheek massage rather ineffectively…my ferret was like…”what are you actually doing?”
@iloveferretssogoddamnmuch4 ай бұрын
if you saw the little critter’s face during the massage you can see he’s yawning from the massage since there is a face muscle in their cheekbones that makes them yawn, very good for medicinal purposes

I think you're by no measure an expert on ferret handling.
@genewickersham4593 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps not an expert but he's good at it. I've used most of these handling techniques with the 5 ferrets I've kept and still have all my fingers and toes.
