I have two deaf ferrets, and because they can't hear you scream they never learned bite inhibition. Nothing I did worked on them, but eventually they learned that the only reason they have TO bite me is to get my attention. Other than that, all my ferrets are wonderful to people ^.^

I have had 3 deaf ferrets (it is a genetic problem with certain colors, Panda and Badger colors seem to be the biggest problem, not all ferrets those colors will be deaf, but those are the colors). Since they can’t hear the squeal when they get too ruff, I scruff (like a mama cat) and put them in their cage for a min or two only, it’s training not punishment, don’t walk away cos their attention span is very short, even shorter than mine 🤣🤣) then taking them back out and trying again. My last ferret took about two weeks to nip train. You have to be consistent and do this every time they nip too hard. 😊

Due to some pretty unique circumstances, my mom and I ended up with 5 ferrets our cousins couldn't keep while raising their very young kids (we got the 3 young girls first, the two older boys later). This channel helped a lot with the sudden fur baby adoption. All but one was gentle, our vicious young girl named Lani. Her bite problem was the worst, and for a while I had to keep mom from giving her away. Something about her aggressiveness didn't sit right, and I remembered that my cousins mentioning her possibly being deaf. I noticed she always seemed more hyper than actually aggressive; she is a very loud dooker. It's because of this channel I got the idea she was simply never properly taught not to bite; she couldn't hear whenever she made her playmates squeal from pain or when we tried to use training for a ferret that could hear. Knowing she wasn't really trying to hurt anyone and just wanted to play all the time, the chasing she would do felt less threatening for my brother and everyone else's feet! We had to use a glove for a while, but she got the idea we didn't like her biting because we would only play with a glove. Such a smart little one. For a while she even refused to bite at all, not wanting the hesitant glove treatment, which we wouldn't do again. But now she feels confident enough to nibble and gently mouth at anyone's hands or even toes for attention and is still as hyper as before. Thanks for the help!

Great video. When my babies used to bite, I had a small 10cc spray bottle filled with cold water. They soon learned that biting leads to a water spray, and the bad behaviour stops. Pick them up and cuddle them every day. They are intelligent animals and respond to treats. I hand feed mine. They take the food but never bite my fingers. Best wishes.

Brilliant video - as per usual! 💜 When we got our rescue ferret Bert, he was malnourished and mistreated - we had to work really hard to build up his trust. It took a lot of malt paste, salmon oil and patience! He also wasn’t neutered and this not only made him bite hard, but also overproduce sebum. Thankfully our lovely Vet (we’re in the UK!) recommended the Suprelorin/Deslorelin hormone implant and this really helped with his behaviour - he’s so much happier and carefree. We also had the hormone implant for our female ferret Sunny, as it drastically reduces the risks caused by spaying. I highly recommend speaking with a small animal vet and even getting a few second opinions to work out what’s best for your little one! Bert’s turning six this year and he’s grown into such an incredible fuzz ball - they give so much amazing energy back, so make sure you put a lot in for them! 💜

6:27 piled on with ferrets. heaven. ferrets play with each other a lot rougher, their skin it tougher. the bite inhibition section is really important so that the ferret can understand biting you in play is not the same as biting another ferret. there's so much misunderstanding and so many ferrets wind up in shelters or "released" because the human doesn't (or won't take the time to) understand. I've gotten ferrets from the store (once) and all other times via shelter.. and i've never had a problem that isn't resolved through patience, love, and understanding. the only "bad" thing about ferrets is that they have such a short life. we get so attached, and they're gone so quickly. breaks my heart every time.

He tends to lock onto a few of the other guys, and not let go. The ones being bit just lay there and cry. I have to carefully open his jaw to make him let go as if I don’t it results in large cuts and scabs on the victims head/neck area. Many years ago when I had ferrets, one of them (a tiny little sweetheart we called "Lola") was snuggling with me on my chest. She started licking my cheek for a while, but suddenly bit into it. She wasn't a biter. I don't know where that came from at all. I made sure not to hold her within close proximity to my face anymore after that, but wish I knew what caused it.

I have one like this. I think it's the salty taste and soft texture of our skin that is too tempting for them. I equate it to being like when I chew fruity gum and can't help but swallow it; it's just too much for them to resist. My other one is the complete opposite though; bites when hungry and playing but never ever when licking faces.

They will run around the house, chase each other, and have so many wonderful adventures lol. I'm usually doing work or playing games on my computer while they are playing. She'll sneak into the room and bite one of my toes before running off. She bites a lot more gentler now than when we first got her and it's just adorable. Everyone one I meet say “ferrets are mean, they always bite” this was crazy to hear I had one growing up and she was soooo sweet. Would play fight, but never attacked. She had a big cage and was given free range of my brothers room. She was never “locked up” we left the door open. She was very clean, never pooped or peed (only in one corner) so we added a tray to that corner and boom problem solved. Maybe I was just lucky but mine was like a trained emotional dog and slept with me. I personally have never met a mean ferret. This information is important, because I think ferrets have bad reputations Becuase people are uneducated about the pets they get.

Hello, What a fun and educational video. Now I see that you have several ferrets yourself. A ferret is actually a solitary living animal, just like the wild polecat. They live alone and visit each other during the mating season. Keeping multiple ferrets together can also often lead to frustration and stress. So actually it is not recommended to keep several ferrets together. Unlike a lot of other animals, this one is not a group animal 🙂

In abour 1 year or so from now, I am planning to relocate to Greensboro, North Carolina. Do you have any suggestions about where I may be able to get some NON-MARSHALL Ferrets. Neddless to say, all of the Ferrets I rescued were Marshall Ferrets and all of them died awful deaths, from either INSULINOMA, (with screaming seizures) or Adrenal Disease, where they lost all of their hair and were suffering fron such awful Hyperactivity where they could never settle down. OMG, Just writing about this just about floors me with the awful memories of those days. I REALLY cannot stand Marshall. They are a Farm that allows their Ferrets to be in the sunlight too much as Kitts, which causes these diseases. Also, they Spay and Neuter the Kitts WAY too young, which also causes these Diseases to Occur. I have been a Dog Groomer and a Dog Grooming Instructor for over 30 years. Animals have been my life and my proffesion. Now I have become a Reiki Mater and more importantly, and Animal Reiki Master. I plan on moving to Greensboro North Carolina in about a year, as I mentioned before. When I get settled, I really would love to invite some Beautiful Ferrets into my life once again! She has an apt in every room in the house. She will not go outside during the day. Once the sun goes down. She is ready. She loves to sleep and play with my pitbull.

Hi thanks for the video. I have two ferrets. The female when we are playing and she starts running around wanting me to chase her she often gets ahold of my hand biting it and pulls my hand under the couch, then lets it go. Is she saying your hand is mine ? I am not concerned just would like to know what it means. Thanks in advance for any response.

This maybe a odd question, I am wondering if they like to chew on electrical wires or cords?

Hey if I can’t find carnivore care could I just blend up some Wysong kibble and some chicken meat to make like a protein smoothie for my ferret?

I have just gotten a new ferret after my last one passed away. My last ferret had only bit whist hyper. But my newest one, will bite my arms and feet all the time. I’m away quite a bit due to school and work. But every time I’m home I will spend all my time with my ferret. The person I had got her from said she was tamed and trained but not only is she biting but she is also using every spot in my bedroom as her bathroom
