Great program discussion! I believe that Neanderthals grieved the loss of loved ones and had some sort of burial ritual.

I dont . . maybe tho, not sure. Resolution will require more evidence. The research must continue !!!🙃

What a fascinating person, I could listen to Dr. Emma Pomeroy all day. I love that she has a background in so many diverse areas, many of which are fascinating to me. I know the focus of this video was Shandihar Cave and Neanderthals, but I also would like to here from her about the theory (or is it know an accepted fact) that many modern day Tibetan people have a Denisovans version of a gene which provides benefits to people living at high altitude. Anyway, at some point please bring Dr Pomeroy back for another discussion!

I am glad that you enjoyed it so much! We will be having her on again when we do our Symposium on hominin mortuary practices with some other great guests! As to the denisovans, you are correct, it is accepted fact that Tibetans have a Denisovan gene to aid them in living in higher altitudes.

It's great to learn that archeologists today are going back to long-known sites and using today's technology and techniques to gather new data. Of course this is also a reminder to everyone working in the field now how important it is to be focused and disciplined with current excavations so as to preserve data for future work with technology not available to scientists in our time.

Thank you for the wonderful interview! It was so informative, but also, I really liked that Dr. Pomeroy said there is no one answer to the question: Did the Neanderthal bury their dead? (different Neanderthals had different mortuary processes), and that we must beware of potentially viewing the evidence left behind by ancient humans through a modern lens, that is, by today's social standards and expectations.
