We live 20 minutes from Bombarral -- there are a number of lovely hill towns around Bombarral, Obidos, and Caldas da Rainha. There is a bus line connecting the main towns of the area to Lisboa. 45 minutes by bus or car from Bombarral to Campo Grande in Lisboa.

This town is surprisingly elegant, especially for being only 4.5k in population. It has everything I like: coffee shops, park areas with benches, ancient trees, and an open square. An overcast sky doesn't hurt, either.

Bombarral hosts a Pear and Wine Festival each year in mid-August -- that's what the huts in the park are for.

I live 10 minutes from Bombarral. It's older buildings are rich in architecture, proving that in it's day was a quite the town. I do hope that there will be more incentives to restore it's former beauty. It's supports a large farming community, hence the agricultural shops. There's is an increase of population since Lisbon is too expensive, many are moving to the area because of easy access to highway. Real estate prices are on the rise.

Thank you for the walkabout, Stuart. It's good to see different towns. It's seems very calm and quiet, it must be the time of day. I hope you are enjoying your time in Portugal. 😊

Just up the road from this town is the largest Buddha park in Europe. It's amazing. We sat on Buddhas foot...

@@E_O_S_As a Portuguese I can confirm that park with Buddhas exist and it's near Bombarral. It's a property of former Portuguese megalomaniac José Berardo. Long story...

Stu the town that I loved in Portugal was Aveiro. Lisbon and Porto were too busy for me but Aveiro was beautiful and slower pace.

When I lived in the Algarve in the 1980s, we had a graffiti problem on our property, local Commies supporting Colonel Otelo, a relic of the 1974 Revolution. We bought some cal (lime), soaked it in water, and once it had all boiled up, slapped it on the wall to cover the slogans, and the locals were delighted, one told me 'We don't want to live like Russia.'. It's so cheap, and so easy to apply 'cal', I'm mystified that so few with white houses bother to smarten up their properties.

What you call "graffiti" were beautiful arty wall murals depicting different scenes of Post- revolutionary Portugal that brought freedom and democracy to what was a country stuck in a dictatorship and endless colonial wars.That revolution was brought about among others by Coronel Otelo de Saraiva, so more respect for what was one of the most heart warming moments in history!

To be fair, there’s alot of shops for just 4.5k people.

I've just arrived from my pueblo, which is in Badajoz and could be equivalent to Bombarral on this side of the border. We have always complained that the fresher sardines that come to Badajoz come salted, and I was impressed that even Bombarral doesnt get fresh fish despite being even closer to the sea. The same thing happens in Morocco.
@diogorodrigues7475 ай бұрын
Bombarral doesn't get fresh fish? Pretty much every Portuguese supermarket in Portugal has a fish store, with lots of fresh fish. Bombarral has a Continente supermarket. Intermarché Bombarral also has a fresh fish section.

The town may be run down but there are people that live there. So we can’t say that it is completely abandoned.

Stu. Caixa simply means Box in certain Spanish dialects (Portuguese for example shares certain words with Galicia which originate from Catalan), and the first building was not a bank, simply the name of now derelict building itself. Not everything with the word "Caixa" means bank.
@diogorodrigues7475 ай бұрын
Galician and Catalan aren't "Spanish dialects", they are full languages with a different history from Spanish. And no, Galician doesn't come from Catalan, both languages have a common Latin origin but they are very different.

Hey Stu, thought I'd mention that butano repsol orange bottles are at least 10/11€ more expensive in Portugal for the same orange bottles, doesn't make any sense. 16€ in Sevilla and 30€+ in Portugal for the repsol orange bottles 😮😮 Your in Portugal again mate, are you thinking of moving there. I'm just glad to be back in Andaluçia, regards Marco 😉👊🍻🍷

Because in Spain prices are fixed, in Portugal they aren't. That's the difference in bottled natural gas prices.

What would the difference between portugal and spain for moving to. I think small towns might be better than in Spain because they only have 2 cities. Properties are cheaper cheaper in Spain as is the cost of living and the weather is better in Spain
@diogorodrigues7475 ай бұрын
If you have a fixed wage from a richer country Spain absolutely doesn't have a lower cost of living than Portugal. With the exception of housing and maybe petrol, Spain is more expensive than Portugal. Also "the weather is better" depends on the region of Portugal or Spain.

It can't be mistaken for Spain...no graffiti.
@walterramirez32875 ай бұрын
That’s a small town probably with older people living there. When you go to bigger cities with younger residents and lots more people you will see plenty of graffiti just like in Spain.

@diogorodrigues7475 ай бұрын
Nobody obliges you to wear heels, you only use them if you want. Get over this dumb point, we aren't in the 1960s anymore - there are fashionable alternatives to heeled shoes for women these days.
