During a visit to Lisbon, we visited a restaurant called Bom Jardim. It was recommended by a colleague who lived in Lisbon for many years - I’m not sure we would have chosen it, left to our own devices, as it looked quite basic. Everyone in the restaurant was ordering what you had - the chicken, chips, salad and that amazing sauce. Wow, best chicken I’ve ever eaten - fantastic. Can’t remember the cost, but it was very reasonable, especially given it was a capital city. Love the food vlogs 👍

The thing about barbeque chicken in Portugal is that you can find hundreds of places like these all over the country. It's hard to say which one has the most amazing chicken because they're all pretty much on the same level. There's no secret to it, BBQ chicken is so easy and simple to make that it's very hard to mess up. 🙂

The potatoes that came with the cod have a funny name in Portuguese: "batatas a murro". It means "punched potatoes" because they're literally punched after coming out of the oven. 😄 I don't know if you noticed but the Maria cookies in the dessert are soaked in coffee. At least that's how the traditional "Doce da Casa" is made.

Right up my street. Love those dishes when I’m in Portugal 🇵🇹 Earlier this year we were staying in Cascais and we visited the Jardim dos Frangos twice while we were there. It’s close to the railway station. Simple place. Cheap prices. Not fancy, but really good chicken and fries with generous portions. Good wines or beer available and really friendly staff. There’s a reason this place is stuffed full of locals, particularly families. If you want something posher there, head towards the marina, where you’ll find amazing seafood and fish, including my personal favourite and the one you chose, Stuart, polvo or octopus. 🐙

In Bragança in 2018, I had a dinner of starter mushroom and chestnut soup, and then a Wild Boar stew, both unbelievable, and the local high Douro red was fantastic. Sadly no room for a pud. Love Portuguese cuisine.

No wonder Nando’s wouldn’t get a foothold in Portugal. When I visit Australia, the first thing friends ask me to cook is piri-piri chicken (next is bifanas). Mouthwatering to watch❤.

Great video Stuart. Thanks for sharing it with us. I've had many meals in Portugal and I've often ordered exactly the same as you. Your meal looked delicious and amazing value for what all three of you had. I'm a huge fan of Spain but apart from Galicia, the Portuguese are better at doing octopus, cod and frango piri piri. Imo. Looking forward to your next culinary excursion. 😀👍

@drguylenegigitree104422 күн бұрын
Wow!!! Did you really eat all of that? Looked great but that is enough food for a party of six. Personally, I would go for just the dessert. That looked yummy. But, where was the rice? Typically in Portugal I have always gotten rice with the chips. A double carb thing. Thanks for the post.
@module79l2821 күн бұрын
Rice with everything is more of a big city touristy thing, which unfortunately created that stereotype. Places like these know what goes with what and rice definitely doesn't go with BBQ chicken.

It was cheap for a 3 course meal with starters and dessert but honestly, no one here in Portugal eats meals like these. A normal meal for two people there probably wouldn't even cost 30€.

Good to see that restaurants on the Iberian Peninsula are gradually adding a few more ingredients to their salads.
@module79l2821 күн бұрын
If you usually go to the big city touristy places, you probably will get a simple lettuce and carrot or lettuce and tomato salad. In the "countryside", salads have always been like in the video since I can remember and I'm 59.
@carmenfernandez523421 күн бұрын
@module79l28 .....Have had multi-ingredient salads in bigger cities: Madrid, Granada, (Vigo), etc. In the smaller "villas" such as towns in Galicia, the salads always seem very basic to me: lettuce, tomato, onion. It's good to see that some restaurants are gradually adding more vegetables and varied salads.
