Excellent presentation! Is it industry practice to heat treat rubies or is this more common with other colored corundums? Thanks!

Heat is common with all forms of corundum. But stones that are naturally fine and don't need heat treatment are more valuable.

The wind hits your Mic. What mineral is mixed with Corrundum to make Ruby?
@ChrisRalph4 жыл бұрын
You can't always have the best weather conditions and I was only there a few days, so it was either film in the wind or forget it. I chose to film. Corrundum with traces of chromium is ruby.

Right but sapphires require Aluminum oxide correct?
@seditt51462 жыл бұрын
The oxidizing environment turns them Yellow, Reduction turns them blue. Generally a fancy burn( oxidation) takes place and the most yellow are those thrown in the final reduction burn.

so if its all about colour, then what is the cutoff point? ie: how dark does a pink sapphire have to be to be called a ruby?

Its the point that the buyer says its red. However, near the meeting point of the two, prices converge.
