Never knew obtaining a culture meant cleansing of wound beforehand. As a medical patient, when I had to have swabs taken wounds were never cleaned sterile first.

To obtain a true sample of the actual wound it does need to be cleaned 1st you push slightly with the swab to expell fluid from the wound. This will obtain a true sample of what's going on within the wound.
