Reminds me of the MERCATOR black cat knife from Germany made by OTTER MESSER.

I have the black version. I don't mind a name stamp on one side, but blade decoration should be on both sides. It just seems like they they are trying to cheat you by making only the photo side look decorative. For the same reason I don't like frame locks where one side is a coloured G-10 handle and the othe rside is just bare silver metal. I love carbon blades but the Douk-Douk, Mercator, Japanese folders, depending on the model can all rust inside the handle making it hard to clean. I use wet/dry sand paper and popsicle sticks to clean out the handles if they rust. best to keep the handles oiled. If the handle was stainless, no need to silver plate it. I think the "silver" plate is just to keep rust off regular metal. It is younger than the Mercator, so I wonder if that is where the French got the idea?

Aww you have a tuxedo cat! Love those, any cat generally. Unfortunately my buddy tux cat Dingleberry Jerry passed away a few months ago, he was a really good boy and best friend. My mother will take his ashes with her when she passes. I hope Mary lives a long and happy life, she’s a beautiful kitty.

Great knife, George. Simple yet classy. Other than its blade shape, it reminds me somewhat of my Böker Atlas. Thanks again for introducing us to interesting pocket carries.

If you want to get rid off the etching on the blade, just rub a lemon on it, but it'll gain a dark patina. But if you plan to use it sometimes as a pairing knife then there's no avoiding it. Been using it for over 8 years, on jobs and as a pairing knife, almost daily, sits nice and snug in the small pocket above the regular pocket on some jeans. The "douk-douk" petit or grand (big or small) is the traditional one, black handle with a triangular "god" on it. Handle is black through a process mostly reserved for firearms: "bronzage" which in the usual meaning would be "tanning" but probably english has a specific word for that. That black handle fades to the original silver as it reacts with food or the sweat/oils of your hand. I like the dip in the back of the blade to put your thumb, never found it to hurt my hand even after a few hours of using it, but hey, different hand size and years using it 😊

I love knives but somehow i dont like the Douk Douk, ugly blade, ugly handle and wayyy too expensive for what it is, i could get a decent ganzo or a honey badger with that money lol, peace from South Africa ✌
