I didn't see my original PET/CT scan prior to beginning chemo & radiation treatment. I saw it months later in a follow up session after a post-treatment PET/CT for comparisons sake. The whole right side of my head was filled with a white blob. It extended from the bottom of my eye socket down to my vocal cords (7.5cm x 3.5cm), this was my tumor. I am happy to say that it has completely disappeared. I am 8 months post-treatment, and still on the road to complete recovery. Thanks for your videos!!!

I saw mine initially, but at that time it was a real blur so I don't remember a lot about it. I do know that the computer and system they had allowed them to zoom way into the images, much better than I can here at home. Lee

@@mommystips9998 I did not have swelling, I had intermittent ear pain that was really sharp and there was a bump on the inside (top right) of my mouth. Eventually I lost the ability to breath through my nose, and the pain in my ear and jaw became very intense, and swallowing was very difficult. Eventually I lost my desire to eat. I do not think there is a blood test to detect throat cancer. I could be wrong. The best route is to get it imaged (PET/CT) and see an ENT doctor who will do a biopsy.

Hi 20 days before i got sore throat.... doctor said my tonsil swelling on my left side.. so immediatly i took WBC is normal.... doctor dismissed allergies.... now am having ear to jaw pain continously both sides.... and got wound my tongue continously but went away eventually... and i breath my nose and i dono my swallowing is difficult or not.. coz sometime paining and sometime not... and both sides i got paining. I came another country before a week only...

My husband is on his third week of chemo and radiation for neck cancer very close to where yours was. The side effects are much worse this third week than before and I suppose will only get worse. He doesn't have a feeding tube yet, and we are hoping and praying he can get enough nutrition in without going there. You’ve just made a good case for eliminating carbs from your diet. Carbs feed the cancer. Eliminate the carbs and kill the cancer. Get your energy from fat. And yes, the body can make that conversion. And, yes CT scanners are great. I’ve had them myself. I’m not familiar with the PET scanner. But I am so thankful for any diagnosis that doesn’t require a scalpel.

Hi Esther, I wish it were that simple. Unfortunately cancer has a nasty ability to convert any glucose to energy. That includes even healthy fruits, vegetables, whole grains and dairy. Cancer will get it's energy from somewhere. The cells in the body will form glucose from fat and muscle tissue leading to a lack of muscle mass and malnutrition. The reason the PET works so well is it provides a glucose formula that is readily taken by the over active cancer cells which leads to the detection of the cancer. I absolutely agree that I would much rather have a scan than an exploratory surgical procedure. You are correct. It should be a standard test that should be done without question by insurance companies, but as I have discovered, the insurance companies are not quite so generous with getting the tests performed.

As far as bread, I can swallow it, but I usually use a little water to help it along. The PEG tube was in for 3 months after treatment. I could have gotten it out sooner but we (gastro, oncologist, and I) agreed to leave it in until after the PET CT in the event that further treatment was necessary. Lee

@@theregularguy141 Good to hear from you sir! The ENT did took out both, because of the risk of the other one (left) having the same issue and it was a horrible 3 weeks recovery. But I'm feeling well at the moment. Great mechanism of loosing weight, since I could not eat almost nothing, because of the pain (LOL). At the end, it was the best decision in my specific case. Recently I visited my doctor for a follow up and he was happy with the results, after a few months of the surgery. Hoping you keep getting better every day and wishing everyone here in this community the best. Thanks for everything you do, it is greately appreciated.

My advice is to run the full course of antibiotics as per your doctor’s advice. If you are still having issues, get a referral to an ENT for further investigation.

No, not all. There are several issues that can cause throat and ear pain. That’s why I would recommend getting an ENT specialist involved. There are infections that are antibiotic resistant, salivary stones, non-malignant mass, cysts etc.

My advice would be to see an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist. In my opinion, 2 months is a long time to be having these symptoms with no resolution. The ENT is much better at evaluating this than I. That being said, these symptoms can also be caused by any number of infections thats why I recommend the ENT. Lee

@@darweshafridi6266 I completely understand. I have a close friend who has, well, cancer in a lot of places, including his brain. He told me that his biggest fear was not knowing what was going on and that although the diagnosis is not good, he was relieved to know what the problem was and that he and the oncology team are working towards a resolution. The "not knowing what is happening" can drive our minds to really dark places. Once we find out what the situation is we can then buckle down and get to work to resolve it. Take a deep breath. Hi Pinky, So we are talking about 2 completely different types of scans. The MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) uses powerful magnets to send sound waves of different types and frequencies through the body to produce the images. The PET/CT uses a radioactive tracer in a glucose based liquid that is put in through an IV. Think of the CT part as a powerful X-Ray that produces an accurate diagram of the targeted area and think of the PET part that highlights that area that has high metabolism reacting to the glucose tracer, such as cancer cells. Sorry, that was a really long winded way to get to the answer of "No, they are completely different." Both have their uses and are fantastic tools for diagnostics. Lee

Not necessarily. Malignant cells grow in an uncontrolled way and can invade nearby tissues and spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph system. However many malignant cancers are treatable. It all depends on how much it has spread through the body and the type of cancer it is. Lee

PET/CT can be helpful but must be done as infrequently as possible. The radiation is wayyyyyyyy higher than other types of imaging. I know people who have benefitted from doing them. However I think they are very much overprescribed. I'm a double cancer survivor and I have never done PET/CT. I've only done CT scans and Doppler 3D ultrasound

@@theregularguy141 I understand how great the PET scan is and agree everyone should know about it. Unfortunately even if you ask your Dr. for one insurance may not cover it. I'm just jaded on the current state of "standard of care" in oncology. It's complete garbage because of greed. My opinion won't change until Dr.s realize the importance of ketosis, fasting, cold therapy, ect. AND recommend and prescribe it. Also we need to see big improvements in immune therapy(oncolytic virus, not checkpoint inhibitors) and cancer killing machine's. If you can report on some of them and how to access them then I get hopeful again. Technologies such as Tumor Treating Fields, Focused Ultrasound, Hyperthermia machine's, etc. A little misleading caption BUT thanks for your video as it is still important. Liked 👍

I have to agree with you on the standard of care in oncology, especially in the detection and follow up as far as insurance goes. Publications on lidocaine effects can be found on Google or Google scholars , such as 1/ local anesthetics ...as cancer therapy . 2/local anesthetics :...the Holy Grail ? 3/Dr CHAMARAUX TRAN : local anesthetics , lidocaine and breast cancer ( thesis of 2019 STRASBOURG FRANCE . I'd like to add that lidocaine can be used at the start alone or in combination with other treatments ( to fill the gap between two sessions )

@@theregularguy141 I discovered lidocaine effects by chance , at the beginning of 2022 , through my wife 's cervical cancer she 's got since 2016 with lots of treatments and many recurrences .I think lidocaine would be a game changer and a life saver with an appropriate protocol with some cautions , the earlier the best .Lidocaine can be used by oral route , local massage , mouth washing or garglings , patches ( to reach the lymphatic system ) .As for my wife , i use a combination of all these routes.There are two brand marks of medecine : Xylocaine ( oral gel ) , Versatis 700 ( patches ) .( I'm a retired pharmacist ) .Regards
