In this video I talk about the controversial oil pump gears, the new iron gears, revealing the fear that the user has that they will break. Email response from the engine manufacturer ROTAX and BMW MOTORRARD explaining why and how the gears work without the oil light and with the plastic material.

Dear Mr. Mendes,
Thank you for your email, which was forwarded to us by Rotax for further processing.
The plastic gears mentioned have been installed for about 15 years. The reason for the change is just the development of noise. The combination now used tends to run more quietly than the previously installed cooling pump with thrust washers and steel gears. Of course, trouble-free operation is guaranteed. Since the change, there have been no abnormalities in the field in terms of increased wear or increased defects. Plastic gears therefore work reliably and are also quieter than steel gears.
Yours sincerely

Dear Mr. Mendes,
Thank you very much for your e-mail.
Since the model was revised in 2012, the BMW F 800 GS no longer has an oil pressure indicator light. In no case known to us has this light prevented engine damage. Instead, it simply indicates that the damage has already occurred.
To ensure the correct functioning of motorcycle engines, they are carefully tested at the factory before delivery. This also includes checking the oil pressure. Therefore, you can be sure that the oil pressure is OK. Very low oil pressure is usually noticeable through noticeable noises (e.g. rattling timing chain tensioners), especially when idling. In this context, it is most important to regularly and correctly check the engine oil level.
Yours sincerely,
Steffen Kraft
