The introduction of the supercab in 1974 would pave the way for Ford building supercab trucks all the way to the present day.

233" Length with the eight foot bed. Most of an airport to do a Uturn. Not quite as bad as my current Chevy sled at 249". ALL of the airport to do a Uturn.

My dad bought his first super cab truck in 1978, ordered it brand new. It was just a custom nothing fancy, but had the 460 and automatic transmission. The only fancy things. Had that truck till October of 1989 when he upgraded again. That 1978 was his work horse, he owned construction company and that truck was on the road 6 days a week, served him well over the years. It was the first super cab in our area. It also took 40 acres turn that old girl around. He bought super cab trucks in 89 which was a 250 then in 93 which was a 150. In 2005 he when to a crew cab. I have my first super cab still I bought in 01 which is a 97 F250 HD, with a 460, automatic, and short box. I'm a big fan of super cab trucks, I'd rather have a super cab than a crew cab, just my handy for me. Thanks again for the video, brings back memories for me.

I am glad my father bought a ‘77 Ford Crewcab for our family hauler, my memories of it 47 years later are pleasant. My childhood friends had a Supercab for their family and they still speak with distaste of being crammed into its small back seat. Later in life I had several more modern Ford Supercabs and they were good for a single guy who needed extra space behind the seat.

My dad bought a new F250 Supercab 2X4 in 1978 from Cavalier Ford in Norfolk Va. It was a Ranger XLT, jade green/silver metallic Camper Special with the jump seats and a 460. I remember it didn't have a catalytic converter because it was a 3/4 ton and cost $7,500. At 10 years old, I thought that was an astronomical amount of money...lol

Yes that was for sure a top of the line truck in that time period.

My dad bought brand new a ‘76 SuperCab Ranger XLT Trailer Special with the factory camper shell and the 460 V8. I loved that truck I never forgave him for trading it in for an ‘80 Volvo DL.

I’ve been for partsman and recently retired as a parts manager… I remember that Ford camper back in the 70s, it was made by open road. They also made the shell and Ford put their oval on it

Awesome video. I own a 1976 SuperCab and have a 1978 4x4 SuperCab frame that (hopefully) I’ll be putting under it at some point soon. I know that crew cabs are all the rage, and for good reasons, but for some reason I’ve always preferred the look of the SuperCab. Please keep putting out this great content.

Very informative. One thing making the 1979 model less favorable maybe to note, which affected both the F-150 and the F-250 in 1979, is that they were equipped with emission controls (evap and cat w/air pump) which is maybe partly why the F-350 was brought out to circumvent that, ie heavier weight class? It is kind of like the F-150 being brought out over/with the F-100 in 1975/76 (unsure where that change was exactly in production and if the 4x4 versions overlapped or were superseded. The 2wd offered both the F-100 and the F-150 for many years. You may have those answers)....

Yea the emissions really killed these trucks. The 351M and 400 were choked out big time for sure by everything with the timing etc as well.

I used to have a...I think it was a '78 Ford two wheel drive truck with the Ranger XLT interior. The truck was red with green interior, I don't know why someone would do that, but it was painted with tractor paint & a paint roller right before I got it.
@DentsideDepot
@DentsideDepot 2 күн бұрын
Wow yea believe it or not you could have any color combination that you wished. Ford would even paint the truck any special color that you wanted which was pretty crazy that this was a true mass produced vehicle.

I wonder if it is possible to swap out a regular cab body for a super cab body on a cab and chassis truck?
@DentsideDepot
@DentsideDepot 3 күн бұрын
It has been done, you would have to move the rear body mounts back on the chassis and then shorten the bed as well. I have seen it done before it really looks bad.
