The Twin Cities Metro Area wasn't -60°F air temperature & I don't think they have had that low of a wind chill either, but they have been at least -55°F wind chill because I remember when the governor closed schools - he reopened schools a few days later as the southern half of the state warmed up. Iron Range schools in Northeastern Minnesota were open the rest of the month even though our wind chill was still in the -50°F's, we are hardier up here! -40°F air temperature in January is traditionally normal here. Tower is the official cold temperature record holder at -60°F on 2/2/1996 at 9:10am. Embarrass couldn't register an official temperature because their official thermometer broke, but if I remember correctly a resident did see -63° on an unofficial thermometer. They had a sign up with their claim to the record for years (I haven't driven by in ages). I live in Eveleth & I don't remember what the wind chill was, but I did write down that Tower broke the record. I also went to work at Target that day & brought my 18 month old to my parents house before work. Life went on like any other day. The Minneapolis - St Paul airport recorded -32°F that day & hasn't recorded a temperature of -30°F or colder since. International Falls was -45°F & Duluth was a balmy -21°F (the Lake keeps it warmer depending on the wind direction & if it's water or ice). Fun fact - Tower was 108 degrees warmer 6 days later with a high of 48°F on 2/8.

Why live there when Chicago is warmer and more to do? My friend however moved back from LV to Twin Cities. Refugees also played a role.

I was born in Chicago but I was raised in St. Paul and home is home… MN definitely has its cons however it has some considerable pros. In some ways the metro area Mpls and St. Paul has changed a lot since I was a kid especially their educational system it is very broken sadly.

@@Cyrus992 they used to especially in the 70’s and 80’s. I went to magnet schools and was primarily taught in Montessori schooling but in the early 2000’s those schools stopped being as accessible as they used to. The education system had sunken so low it was one of the hugest disparities in the country.

Lived in Minnesota for fifty years, last twenty years in Detroit - Michiganers have no clue what cold is; when it is 40 degrees they are wearing heavy parkas.
