You have inspired me to attempt Yiddish as my next language-learning project. 🙂 I think I will start out with Colloquial Yiddish, as it has audio and a more traditional grammar book. If anybody has suggestions, I would be grateful to hear them.

Love Colloquial Yiddish!!! Check out Sheva Zuckers volume 1. Yiddish Book Center has it with the answer key that you order separately

What a beautifull words! My favourites were the ones ending in vowels like : levuna, skuna, shedra etc. In my language we also have a word for crazy: mesjogge , I think it has the same roots. In a sentence : 'Die is helemaal mesjogge' meaning: That one is totally crazy And more like wise words like: ponem , bolleboos, gallisch,jajem, etc. It is highley interesting 😃

Well the pronunciation is completely different as well. It wouldn’t click as the same word in your brain if you didn’t recognize it. 🙂

@@omiumn.7829 hi :-) some words i'll find out by myself because i tried to learn hebrew, and some are in books , one is calling: Lotegorisch, die Pfälzer Händlersprache, the other one is called Lachoudisch sprechen, from R. Hoffmann. I'll also found a pdf from the small village eichstetten, where they also use the same words like us, of course some words are original hebrew like rewach, and some become germanized :-) for example, palatinates sayin medde, bavarians say middes...both comes from hebrew mitach, the bed :-) you count both as secular western yiddish languages. i still remember a small poem my father once told me it says: ,, Lau lone in de medine, kei moos im kis, die bor is pattersch, de dalles gewiss'' and in these two books, there is also the yiddish/hebrew origin inside, but as ä german i dont speak it out correctly.. but i'm tryin when ist ok i'll can give you the internet links 🙂 have a nice day @omiumn.7829

I recognized "Mischpoke", then there's "Geseiere" (superfluous, useless talk, chatter), "Ganove" (gannáv?), "Masel" (my father uses it a lot), "Chutzpe", "Meschugge", "Hawara" (Chavir?). I can add "Betucht" (Betuch, batuach), "Ische" (Ischa), "Kies" (kis), "Hals- und Beinbruch" (hazloche und broche, Hazlacha uWracha), "Tacheles" (tachlit), etc. But there is also a German word that is used in Israel, "Klebeband" (as far as i know). 😁

Some commonly used Hungarian words are: פאָקענאַל (fukkenal) a wooden spoon פּאנדזעלוֺ (punjello) a robe קאָנטשוֺ (kuncho) a water pitcher פּאפּאטש (pupuch) slippers בּאָנדאש (bundash) Hungarian style French toast I’m sure there’s plenty more 😄

are you orthodox while being a metal fan? how does that even work together? lol literally doesnt make sense to me
@multisingual1241
@multisingual1241 Ай бұрын
Yeah I get asked that kind of thing a lot. Basically I listen to the music I like, and then turn it off when shabbat begins. Listen to metal, eat my kosher food, listen to metal and then turn it off to pray. It doesn’t interfere with my religion in any way. Hope this explains this contrast enough. 🙂🤘🏻
