I have been saying this for years.. we're about to go back to the days when all you needed was a monitor and a keyboard AKA a thin terminal. you turn the monitor on it'll ask you what cloud service you want to log into and then all your virtual desktop machines will be available on that monitor. think about needing a strong GPU only for a project for 2 days five times of ram but only for rendering a movie. the possibilities here are endless!! I personally can't wait for this

Windows 365 is a good solution for contractors indeed, this was something I used for a client when it was first launched. Was really good if used with the app so that it could use the local hosts microphone and web cam.

Yes, for contractors it is our most recommended solution.

10:00 can you only have one setting for the company? Maybe some users need to be local admins?
@bearded365guyАй бұрын
No, you can do it per device. The admin settings I talked about are just the defaults.

this good solution for companies and users alike that dont want security. Beware that this is for big companies that have no problemn with money, from my experience many small companies will not accept paying so much for cloud OS!
@studiotwoАй бұрын
Yep. Cloud costs can quickly get out of hand.
@bearded365guyАй бұрын
I am going to disagree slightly here. Even if you have a small business, what are you going to do? Buy them a $800 laptop?
@studiotwoАй бұрын
@@bearded365guy I think there are loads of hidden costs and complications here that will soon escalate. What if (say) you need to use Sage or some other application that needs access to a local database or file-share? I'm aware that is can be done. However, in scenarios where everything is running in M365, would it not be more economical to get something like a Chromebook? That's not £800. I must admit that I thought the W365 Link was going to be Microsoft's take on a Chromebook whereby you could sign in with your M365 credentials and you would be able to access your M365 through Edge. Instead of just a M365 license, you need W365 and InTune.

Jonathan, do you use a tablet such as S10 to manage share point and loop? I am considering a tablet, using laptop now.

We've been using CloudPC/Windows 365 for close to a year now. One thing that was helpful for us was that if someone's computer dies on them, or needs an upgrade, they don't have to worry about setting up and configuring everything the way they like it - they just sign in on the new laptop or desktop and everything is exactly as they left it. Showing them a nearly 2 Gbps speed test didn't help either. ;)
@bearded365guyАй бұрын
Yes, this is another great advantage.

Do you know if they've introduced any kind of accelerations to make videoconferencing workable inside these cloud PCs? The last time our company looked into cloud desktop replacements, that was the showstopper for us. Sure, you could share your webcam and mic through the RDP connection, but trying to actually use them for a video call yielded a choppy awful experience

Isnt this more less citrix with thin clients linked to ms servers instead of business servers?

Similar methodology but much simpler than setting up and supporting Citrix.

Great video as always, however, at 9:23 you state to login to the Windows 365 admin portal as the tenant Global admin to change some org settings. When I do that I get "Your organization hasn't assigned you a Cloud PC". Do I need to temporarily assign the W365 license to my GA? Confused.

I liked the idea of being able to increase or decrease the resources of the cloud PC, but if I need a license for the higher spec'd PC, I have to commit to that license for 12 months (with my CSP licensing). So I end up paying for both the lower and the higher spec cloud PC. It'd be nicer if I just got charged more while I needed the extra resources.
@bearded365guyАй бұрын
You can can commit to 12 months, but you can also subscribe on a monthly commitment too.

Yeah, it's great... but not perfect. Definitely more secure but more expensive than providing a cheap laptop (over 3 years), and you still need a piece of hardware that has internet connectivity to use it, along with screen, keyboard and mouse. If you ask your employees to use their own equipment, be prepared for the cost of replacing when their own hardware breaks, because you can guarantee they'll blame the additional work usage. For contractors, I think it's brilliant. For BYOD... not so much... yet!
