Beautiful colors! Have to share my excitement that yesterday my niece announced she's getting married. Already have a blanket pattern picked out and their favorite colors (green and blue). Just have to decide on how to dye the yarn.

Very cool results! I have to admit I prefer the “accident” yarn where the zip ties were at the yellow end. Loving the greens/blues together.

Those colors are super pretty together! It just wasn't what I was aiming for :D

Happy New Year, and thank you for all your videos, I always learn something. I would love to see what would happen if you did not move the yarn after adding acid- just let them sit for a couple of days before steam setting.

Something stunning I suggest trying out, use natural coreopsis dye and vary the PH with each box. You can also use onion skins and iron supplements to make a natural green. The skins themselves make yellow on their own, so you can mix the iron supplements into a solution with water, and dip the ends of the yellow skein in to get a green and yellow skein. Finally, there's purple cabbage dye, which will also change depending on PH. It will start with purple at neutral and shift towards blue with the alkali and magenta red with acid. You're more versed with chemistry than I am (I failed highschool chemistry, not kinda passed with a B- or C, failed with an F. And that was in 2004.)

I've dyed with onion skins before, but haven't tried adding iron! I need to make an iron bath to play with a few natural dyes, so I'm going to add this one to the list, too.

I'd love to see an experiment where you compare colorfastness with acid + time vs heat + time vs acid + heat. Looking at the water from your shoe boxes, I'm really curious how permanent the dye has struck.

This is a very interesting idea. I'm not sure the best way to set up an experiment like this,... but Ill think on it!

Do you mix dyes in the kitchen or elsewhere? Just curious about your personal process. I’m starting to dabble with acid dyes.

I mix dyes in my kitchen. I make sure to clear my work spaces of all food and food tools and then clean up when I'm done with a day of dyeing.

I was actually yelling non no you haven’t added white vinegar to the second box😬

I think I was so confused with the colorway looking different from how I'd expected that I forgot. Ultimately I'm glad when I mess up on camera because then I can share how things turn out :D
