In the US, there is a federal law that sets out what a serving size is. The company’s are obeying the law. That said, the could increase or decrease the package size to obtain a whole number of servings instead of 1/2 servings.

They changed the labeling laws a couple years ago. The Federal law in the US is serving sizes must be based on the amount of food people typically consume rather than how much they should consume. If it is a multiserving package, it must be based on the reference amount applicable to the product listed in the RACCs tables. That means that they could easily say it is one serving in a bag. The law also states they can round to a half serving. With something like chips or porkrinds, companies know that people eat the whole bag. They say its multiserving so they can show lower calories. I would like to see the law be similar to whats in Europe where a serving size is the entire package or 100 grams
