I bought a pair of these a year ago. I love the simplicity of this light. When I was installing them on the tank, I read that they should be placed 5' above the water level. Thanks for verify the intensity for me. Basically, the color control is from our eyes and has nothing to do with the corals. That's very interesting. I am going to go now and adjust the lights and see what happens. Thanks you BRS for all of these amazing videos.

Great review Ryan BUT.... you just missed one aspect of the kessils that has been nagging me, and that would be how much higher you could mount the NE version (narrow angle) in order to achieve the same levels of coverage and PAR distribution as a WE at 8 inches. The reason why this is important for me is that higher mounted fixtures provide easier access to the tank. And in my case, given I would want to hang them from the ceiling the higher they are the least intrusive they would be. Would really like to know this one. Keep up the good work!
@vascojardim67037 жыл бұрын
BulkReefSupplyCom of course. Love this series and the work (fun 😊) you guys go through is amazing to bring us truthful and helpful consumer info. Maybe you could publish the results in the R2R thread? I believe a lot of people would like to know how/if to use the N version in terms of mounting height in order to achieve proper light coverage and PAR similar to what you are getting here with the W.

To keep things consistent from light to light, we test at 100% intensity. The height is from the surface of the water to the bottom of the light fixture.

Excellent again BRS! This was some of the best information about the light I have found, specifically the mounting height which is something I have personally struggled with. Thank you for that. The only other thing I would have loved to see covered IS the Spectral Controller. It seemed you guys said it was a "set it and forget it" scenario, but I feel there is definitely space to improve with the controller, or possibly hurt yourself, but it is all depending on the schedule you set. The schedule time/intensity/color combo is the current struggle of most I think. Anyway, love the videos regardless, please keep it up!

what the best light for shimmer, growth and color pop? Thinking radions, kessil or ai prime. have current so dont know much about these. Does kessil make a bigger led or s this all you need, just more of them?
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
All of them grow coral and produce an eye pleasing color pop for the most part. I've found that shimmer and specific coral fluorescence we want to target is more of a personal opinion and some lights differ in what they offer. I think it's worth heading to a few LFS or fellow reefer's tanks to get a first hand idea of what you personally like in shimmer. I will say that a large amount of the reefing community has dubbed the Kessil as having the best shimmer. :)

Mhm they are indeed Chinese boxes, but the company Ocean Revive has really improved upon the standard black boxes. Comparing to something like a Mars Aqua, this blends so much better and grows pretty much everything. From our small city, the locals have only been able to get huge bubbles on their bubble tips with this light if that says anything. i love my a360we and a160we's - i consider kessils the metal halide killer. any place you could use a MH - you could use a kessil and do the same thing with less heat. i think the only real flaw is if you only use a single one on a cube tank - you will get shadowing. I went with a pair of 160we's on my new tank (which is a rectangle not a cube) and that has worked out very nicely. there's still no definitive LED t5 killer but your video from a while back about the coralcare lights was interesting in regards to diffusers and I had a few interesting conversations regarding building your own diffuser a few weeks ago. I wonder how far off we truly are from a complete LED solution for replacing the type of light you'd get from a t5/mh setup. would definitely be interested in more research in regards to the mixing of the colors and how this effects corals - i've never been a fan of the RGB Disco effect on most of the fixtures with multiple separate diodes, they all look pretty horrible to me - even the radions and hydras. I honestly feel like if you're going to have multiple-diodes anyway - you may as well just go chinese box light at that point - in terms of how it actually looks, anyway, it's almost no different. makes me feel like half these products are a total joke in terms of price point and value.

I've been in this hobby for almost 4 years. just recently ive begun thinking of replacing all my initial equipment purchases. I started with the cheapest everything. From Dsuny black boxes to a standard 55 gallon tank w homemade 20 hallon sump w hob overflow to cheap Amazon skimmer and pumps it was all the cheapest i could fimd that could do what i needed. The prices are insane. Like i get lights are expensive...at $85/ panel x2 my lights are the most expensive equipment i own altogether. i see how much nicer stuff looks under kessels or the like but I dont quite get why its 10x as expensive? and even more baffling are some ecotech pumps...my ac pump was like $50 and 4 years later not a hiccup. Same wuth my water brand name $100 gyro wavewaker and $45 wavemakers. The big names want 5 or even 10 times more than what some comparable equipment costs. over thd years ive spent a lot of money on coral and j did have a crash that i lost it all. but it was my fault not the equipments. the tank never stopped running and most of the fish lived. i was sick during covid and was topping off with bottled water and not doing regular changes. however im about 6 months back into it nos and i want to replace stuff. starting with lights. a few have burned out, most importantly the ultra violet blues on one panel. i have the 55 gallon which is 4 feet long. ill likely replace it eventually but to light it id need 2 maybe 3 of these...so then im like maybe the AI Prime is more my speed... i cant imagine spending 1500 on lights and losing functionality from the 165 lights i had. that pretty much rules out kessels for me. its either ecotech or ai for me...seeing as the footprint of my tank will lilely change before id buy new lights smaller led modules like this are the better option... But somebody tell me why their pimps are so expensive please? after lights I'd buy a controller...apex. why are cheaper ones crappy?

For a 60x60x60cm tank, would I be better off with two A160W or one A360W?

BulkReefSupplyCom thanks! I was a little concerned there might be shadowing issues with the single light source?

Why doesnt brs sell fluval sea lighting?

We select products on a good, better, best mentality with the goal of carrying products that we would use ourselves. We get this question a lot with lower cost LED brands. Some of the LED brands out there just don't have the power to support corals past low light softies. I'm not sure what the par numbers on that particular fixture would look like, but judging by the amount of power it pulls, it's likely not very high.

Thank you so much for this vid! I have a kessil over my 65 but and I've been debating to sell it but I don't know! 2 lights would be optimal but I don't have 400$ to buy a new one! So I'm going to switch to Chinese leds a member in my local club has a 2000gal with 40 of the Chinese leds! And he grows everything fast! But I may hold on to the kessil and convince my parents to do a frag tank!

I am defiently going to reconsiderer now!. They looked sharp as hell mounted to the wood!If I were to mount o the wood I would have it rest on the side of the tank, you know like the strip leds. I decided to wait until july 4th for my lights hoping for some good sales but dont see any..Bummer on that! Also Defiently need to check out more youtubes of this light because I have heard people say that the blue isnt very deep and very windex blue and rRan made a point about not being the best color pop and the shimmer gets a it crazy for me. I know I dont care really for the abplus or what ever its called beacuse its a little to blue so it is scarry that I am going to pick out something visually appealing and may not grow my corals as well, if at all! LOL Thats what safe with kessil. . I know most people turn up there blues and down the white and very little onother colors so maybe I will have luck with that, now that i have thrown kessil in the game how will I ever decide? LOL Then if I go with radion which was my initial choice before my tank crashed! LOL I dont know whether to go blue or pro because even though i dont like a crazy amount of blue I like that they added cyan and lime, so maybe I could just tone the blue down a bit! Wish I knew an LFs that had them up and running in Tampa which is where live so I could check them out!
