Watched this video last night and went to Fort Street Cafe today. Got the garlic chicken & panang curry combo. I love thai curry but usually get the green one because I love eggplant. This combo was delish! Garlicky & coconutty goodness! I've seen other videos on this place but yours is what enticed me. Thanks for sharing!

My auntie used to work at Medeiros Optical Service (where our family got our glasses) on Fort St. Mall when I was a kid, and I have many memories of walking around with my mom and shopping at Woolworth, Kress, the comic book shop, etc. How things have changed since then! I also worked at Hawai'i Pacific University one semester in the 1990s, so I ate at many places on Fort St. Mall. A lot has changed since then, too, but I like to eat there when I'm downtown, and my favorite thing to get is still the garlic chicken at Fort St. Cafe! Thanks for sharing the other 'ono grinds we can get there. Always reasonable prices and satisfying!

Wow. What a throwback. I do remember the Woolworths and I liked looking at the arts and crafts section as a kid. I remember Marugame was a Jack In The Box and also was a Wendy's for a short while. It was much dirtier then. Now it's surprisingly clean and more business like. Mahalo again for commenting and watching!

I like how you give us a bit of history behind Fort Street mall. Fried crunchy anything is good, yeah. Nice to know about Pioneer Plaza...many ono looking plate lunches there. It's almost hard to decide where to go eat over there with so many ono, ono choices. Mini plates is the way to go. Garlic Chicken and the Pinacbet plus the Doner shwarma got me!!!

Hi there! Enjoyed your tour around Fort Street Mall. 😃 My daughter works at the Pioneer Plaza. Both my kids enjoy that Tonkatsu place. Working there for 20 years now, she’s tried the whole gamut. She doesn’t cook so…🍽️🥣 I’m visiting now so we’ve met up with her for 😋 lunch. Thank you for these many adventures. 🏢🍽️🌴

When I was a boy, my dad had a shop on Fort Street Mall, and I had my favorites back then. There are a lot of mediocre places around there, but it's great that you seem to have picked some of the best. I still miss the Eagle Cafe at the Blaisdell Hotel (George, the owner, died, and his son took over, then moved to Nimitz. I think that there's no relation to the "New Eagle Cafe" of nowadays). It's also nice to know there's a Marugame down there so we don't have to brave the lines in Waikiki for that.! Great work!
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 5 ай бұрын
Ah what wonderful memories. Did you know the old Blaisdell Hotel sign is still up? Doesn't look like the lights function but they didn't take it down. Interesting to see they were the ones who moved to Nimitz. I think they're definitely owned by someone else now as they offer more Filipino food. Miss the old biscuits with strawberry jam there. That's off the menu now.

Great video Misty! Brings back memories of pre-retirement days. Fridays were usually reserved for Fort Street Cafe. That sweet little lady, would come outside to take orders if the line was long. I've had a few pirosckis from Rada's. I learned the hard way - limit to one or suffer the consequences after lunch. 😉 On Alakea, I liked Waterdrop Vegeterain House for their tasty plant-based plates.

Aloha Misty!! Wow so many eats. We didn’t know a lot about Fort Street so mahalo for sharing not only the eats but the history as well. Absolutely appreciate the parking tip as parking can definitely be a challenge. Added numerous more spots onto our massive list. From the crispy garlic chicken, to the the curry, to the tonkatsu, to the Filipino food, pierogi, and everything else….😋 Doner’s controversy doesn’t seem like a deal breaker to us so would love to try it too since we love Greek flavors. Mahalo for showcasing all these great spots!! Have a great week ahead!!

I'm not sure how clean it is as I haven't been there in years, but there is a restroom at McDonald's? Not sure if you need a code. If really desperate you can go to any floor of the Alakea Courthouse. They have clean bathrooms on every floor. Just have to go through the metal detection machine. They don't ask why you're there. Too bad Walmart is not there anymore. I'm sure they had bathrooms.

@@FoodFiend Well, if the food is good, the food is good. And like you said, keep politics out of it …and juss grind.👍🏽

Fort street mall is a nasty place Smells so bad there 🤢

It used to be. Now it is surprisingly not bad and cleaner than it used to be and has security guards everywhere. The homeless people are more Ewa of Bethel Street...Fort Street Mall is very long and extends all the way to Ala Moana Blvd...so you're just talking about the part between Beretania and Hotel Street. 🤷‍♀
