I was part of the dig team in 2015, Season 10, all the way from New Zealand. The biblical geography is convincing. Sodom can't be in the south Dead Sea area. It can be in the Jordan Valley north of the Dead Sea. Breaking into the destruction layer is sobering. When you see, smell and handle the destruction layer, the airburst suggestion fits what you experience. Good to hear you again Dr Collins.

Do you find it even a little curious that the geographical description in the Bible doesn’t just say “walk a half day directly east from Jericho & you’ll be in sodom”? Why bother with the round-about, possibly misinterpreted version? I mean, it’s 12 miles away from one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in the world, and an extremely important biblical city & all we have is vague Dead Sea descriptions? Just seems a little off to me if this is the location.

Thank you Sean for your interview, it was very well done. I tried watching another interview with Dr. Collins to hear what he had to say and the interviewer talked so much that he left little time for Dr. Collin to make his point. He kept interrupting him and trying to impress everyone with what he actually didn't really know. Your questions were very well thought out, concise and allowed him to give adequate time to answer. In the first 8 minutes I learned more than I did in the whole 30 minute video from another. Very interesting topic.

Collins claimed in another video what Wyatt found were natural formations and COMPLETELY dismissed it and admitted the Sulphur balls found there, but says it's NOT one of the cities of the plains despite the strange angular formations, how it's all ashy and falls apart, And all the Sulphur balls found there. Wyatt's team said they also found bones there too. Just because Wyatt was never a 'proFESSor' doesn't make him incorrect. I still enjoy what Wyatt found and believe most of it.

As I listened to this video yesterday, I began to wonder whether the story of Lot might provide evidence for the location of Sodom that I don’t think was mentioned in the discussion. Suppose that the story of Lot and his daughters in fact has some degree of historical legitimacy. Recall that Genesis 19 records that the older daughter was the maternal progenitor of Moab while the younger daughter was the mother of the people of Ammon. If you look at the locations of the Ammonites and the Moabites on biblical maps, in my mind the distribution of those peoples, flanking the northeastern portion of the Dead Sea would favor the northern location proposal for Sodom because of familial loyalties, wouldn’t it? I’m no biblical scholar, but to me this adds to evidence favoring a northern location for Lot’s adopted home that the location at the southern extremity of the lake. I would appreciate the opinion of the experts.

Genesis chapter 13, where the bible gives us the geographical indicators of the whereabouts of Sodom and her five fortified city state. And he [Abraham] went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, *between Bethel and Hai* {Genesis 13:3} ... And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all *the plain of Jordan* that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and *Lot journeyed east* and they separated themselves the one from the other. {Genesis 13:10-11} (The same location, east from Bethel and Hai, is...Modern day Tall el-Hammam, Jordan. Moses and the Israelites would setup camp on the ruins of Sodom, before crossing *the Jordan River* into The promise land.) And they removed from Almondiblathaim, and pitched in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. And they departed from the mountains of Abarim, and pitched in *the plains of Moab* by Jordan near (on the east side of the Jordan River, across from) Jericho. And they pitched by Jordan, from Bethjesimoth [house of the desolation / upper city] even unto Abelshittim [lower city] in the plains of Moab. {Numbers 33:47-49} Tall el-Hammam is modern day Sodom. The inner city, comprising the upper and lower, which combined is approximately 64 acres (more than ten times that of Jericho) behind the massive walls, towers, and gate system, (Lot sat in the gate of Sodom) buttressed by a sloped mud brick rampart (another separating the upper and the lower city) covered with a plaster glacis. It is the right place, the right time, and has the right stuff, including a MBA destruction layer. The bible is true. God bless

As an orthodox Jew it pains me that so many Israeli archeologists deny the historicity of the Bible. I'd have to push back at the figure of 98%, though. There are many of who do, though they are in the minority. @@drmichaelshea Well, I tell you Jesus told of the rich man who ignored Lazarus in life. He died and went to Hell. He was thirsty and wanted Abraham to dip his finger in the water and to cool his tongue because he was tormented in the flame. But, Abraham said that he could not come there. Well, the rich man asked Abraham to send Lazarus to warn his brothers not to end up there. Abraham said that if they wouldn't listen to the prophets, then they would not listen "even" "if" someone rises from the dead, meaning Lazarus. Jesus said that there would be scoffers in the last days, so, this is a hint to them. It is no real skin off our heels; if they want to be apart from God, He will oblige them.
@drmichaelshea
@drmichaelshea Жыл бұрын
@@margiecarol2944 Let me ask you a question. Since when have any of the poor gotten into heaven by virtue of having been given a gift? Not very many, I’ll bet. And if that’s true, why would the rich man be consigned to hell for failing to give to someone who would in all likelihood obtain no eternal benefit from it? The issue isn’t one of goods or riches or privilege, it’s a question of idolatry. If the rich man went to hell it was not because he didn’t give his riches away but because his wealth was the true focus of his love and worship. My point is that you don’t have to have money to love it more than God. The poor are just as capable of that sin as anyone. I’m all for generosity, not so much because of the benefit someone else gets from me but because given helps me to grow. If I were the richest man on earth and gave every penny away, equally to all, no one would get as much as a dollar. As it stands, if I gave away everything I have, I doubt anyone would get 1/100 of a penny. So I believe very strongly that it is best for each of us to pray for ways of honestly supporting ourselves and our families. Some will have a lot, and some little, some will need the assistance of loved ones, neighbors, and churches, and some will not. For whatever the reason, it’s the way of the earth, and the earth is God’s, and who am I to argue?

That's why we need Jesus to live a repented daily lifestyle, to live a sinless life, is by daily having a relationship with Jesus, being in his presence. It's not that you can live a sinless life, but Jesus that did, died, rose again and now he lives in you. That's why we can live a sinless life because of Jesus, not us.

Mapping the ancient texts on to archaeology is indeed a facinating prospect. The paucity of humility here is disturbing though. An air-bursting cataclysm so indiscriminate in scope must make one wonder about the barely supressed glee expressed in the notion that God did it- as it is written. ”Well, at least the babies wouldn’t have felt a bloody thing.” ”Well, we don’t judge God’s actions.” Does innocence have any meaning in this scheme? What is the idea behind Jesus’ innocence? Doesn’t it actually work better as a parable promoting the idea that corruption ultimately ends in self-destruction? Must we indulge in this kind of schardenfreude; do we have to think of ourselves as insects to be stamped upon?

I came to the same conclusion after reading my Bible and studying with the Strongs Concordance so I could understand the Hebrew. But I thought I might have just not understood the texts based on where "everyone" was placing it on Bible maps. Awesome to hear about this place! I did not know an excavation was even active and people were actually considering a north eastern Sodom! I would like to know more about why Dr. Collins doesn't think its possible to be under water in the Dead Sea though. Or at least some of the cities...thank you for this interview ❤

With all my respects to the doctor and the audience. My question to thes archaeologist is, did they find evidence of the Brimstone rain mentioned in Genesis 19:24-25 in and around such cities? Because it The KJV Bible said "Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground" The ONLY place that has such evidence, was found by the late Dr. Ron Wyatt. If the such place that you claim to be "sodom" It has no such brimstone, I think, It is not Sodom or Gomorrah.

@@samuelrivera4362 I thought this was interesting so I wanted to share: If you look up the definition of brimstone in the Strongs Concordance it is H1614 "gophryth" which is a feminine form of gopher wood. The same that Noah built the ark from. So, I'm really wondering if this was some kind of volcanic explosion or something that would cause hot,burning gopher tree wood to come down on these cities. I'm not sure if Ron Wyatts evidence lines up with the definition. It does mention gophryth as sulphur by analogy though. So, whatever came down on Sodom must have been similar to sulphur but doesn't mean it actually was. Just wanted to mention that & God Bless!

Hi Sean! I found your interview of Joel Kramer about 6 months ago of this topic interesting as well as this one. Now i learn for the first time of this other more recently digged site. I would be interested in what kind of explanation mr Collins has (if any) to the findings of bab edh-Dhra, the sulfur balls, two cities and a cemetery burned at the same time and human skeletons etc showing it was more likely a fast event than a slow climate change type of a thing. It seems to me to be in accordance with biblical description over there but maybe the location would fit better if mr Collins has it right.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Air bursts may not be unique, but finding countless sulfer balls (more pure than any other sulfer found on earth by far) that have been burned, buried in cities that are visibly turned to ash... I've never heard of brimstone being translated burning stone. I think that the original site that was found by Ron Wyatt is the correct location. Sadly, I feel like this is a distraction so people don't look at the actual sites.

Zoar was also to be destroyed, but Lot asked that he be allowed to go there and God spared the city of Zoar for Lot’s sake alone. However, Lot shortly fled Zoar to live in a cave in the hillside with his two daughters, most likely as he saw the same behavior in Zoar as in Sodom and he fear it would still be destroyed in the same manner. He didn’t escape the depravity as it was engrained somewhat in both of his daughters who got him drunk and each took their turn getting pregnant by him to continue the family line (Genesis 19:30-38)

His video/physical evidence and lab tests speak for themself. I'm not a sda and I disagree with some of Ron's theology, but I do believe he loved Jesus and was used by God. These new findings can't hold a candle to the mountains of evidence that many have since verified at the sites Ron discovered.

I also think his documentation for the site of Noah's Ark is more valid than anyone else . . . after that, perhaps his fame got the better of him, he just tried to find everything all on his own, also the SDA church started pressuring him because some of these discoveries threatened the accuracy of their faith!!!

Dear@@reuben4yahshua837 , Think about this. Maybe in middle school science class you learned that elemental sulfur has a low combustion temperature; it catches on fire easily. When sulfur burns it turns into a gas - sulfur dioxide and a gas is easily dispersed in the wind. I used to teach this in my middle school science class. Now think about what you said ! You said, "evidence of intense heat and melting also". What do you think would happen to sulfur in the presence of "intense heat and melting" ? if you are thinking it would quickly burn changing into SO2 then you are right. If it easily burns under low heat, then it will rapidly convert to SO2 under intense heat and then would be none left. Form the perspective of basic science, if you found elemental sulfur (balls or any form) present in the destruction layer at an excavation, this would mean that this layer was not subject to intense heat. I hope you can clearly see that if you find Sulfur somewhere in the Levant, that would be evidence that it is NOT the site of the destruction of Sodom. Do you understand the reasoning, science and logic supporting this conclusion ? It is very apparent that people like Ron Wyatt did not understand science well enough to understand this issue, because when he found some naturally occurring elemental sulfur in the area, he jumped to the misinformed conclusion that the presence of sulfur (and he didn't listen to how the geologists told him it was naturally occurring) is some kind of proof that he had found Sodom (despite the fact that his conclusions were contrary to the nature of sulfur according to established science). Note that 99.9+ pure sulfur (virtually 100%) is found naturally occurring in many places around the world. You can go to science supply catalogs and buy samples of virtually pure, naturally occurring, elemental sulfur for your collection , as I did for my classroom geology collection. Wyatt tries to make it seem that what is found around the Dead Sea is more pure than in other places and that is simply not true. Be Well, DZ

@@Silverheart1956I enjoy science, but it has it’s limitations and biases. For example, it is science so called that tells us the world is billions of years old and that there isn’t a Creator, but that it was a cosmic combustion that caused this planet and everything on it. It was scientists that scoffed at Christians and the Bible because they couldn’t find any evidence of the Hittites - until finally there was. Scientists are people who outwardly like to crow about how they are unbiased and “logical” yet it’s pretty obvious that the vast majority of them are not unbiased when they see the intricacies of just a single cell, and yet refuse to acknowledge a Creator; when they can admire artwork or architecture and somehow manage to acknowledge an artist or builder. Nature itself points to a Creator and as the vast majority of scientists refuse to see the obvious, I take what they say with more than a grain of salt. Jesus passed by the learned of His day and chose humble laborers for His disciples. The fact that Ron Wyatt wasn’t a trained scientist doesn’t at all mean that God didn’t work through him. I don’t know much about Mr Wyatt, but when people start dumping on someone who they disagree with and arrogantly cast that someone aside as unlearned it calls to mind those learned teachers of Christ’s day and how He couldn’t use them due to their pride and spiritual blindness. Happy Sabbath.

Interesting take, but it is at odds with the Bible text in Genesis 19 vs 20-25. Here Lot says, let us flee to this small town close enough for us to run to which the Bible says was called Zoar (on the southern end of the Dead Sea). I really liked the view and explanation of Joel Kramer (Expedition Bible series) that shows the "sulfur balls" from a distinct layer in the southern Dead Sea that may have been extinguished by the water. The Bible also clearly states "rained down sulfur" and when you see how they drip when Kramer burns some, it makes sense to me.

1. Is there only one god, or are there multiple gods? If multiple, how is a person to choose which deserves obedience? If there is only one good, who is Baal? If Baal is a false god, what makes your god NOT false, precisely, aside from it telling you that is the case? 2. Would you agree that before anything can exist, something has to create it? Did your god create everything? If yes, who/what created your god? 3. Is your god infallible? 4. Is your god omnipotent? 5. Is your god omniscient? 6. Is your god benevolent, or malicious? 7. If your god cannot make mistakes, then it follows that everything it creates is either perfect, or that your god intentionally makes things that are flawed. Would a benevolent god intentionally create something likely to suffer because of its flaws? 8. If your god can do anything, and it created the universe, why didn't it simply create a perfect world inhabited by perfect beings? If your god wanted obedience, and god is not malicious, why did god make disobedience possible? 9. If your god knows everything, does it already understand every thought and feeling you have? Does it instantaneously know everything you say and do? If yes, what is the point of religious rituals, such as prayer? 10. Why would an omnipotent and omniscient god not communicate directly and unambiguously with individuals, with no need of books, churches, prophets, signs, miracles, etc? If a person is not intelligent enough, or not "worthy" enough to speak directly with god, whose fault is that? Who made the person in the first place? If a person is unworthy or incapable of directly communicating with god, how can that person be capable of recognizing a valid spokesperson for god? 11. Think about the person/people who convinced/persuaded/ordered you to believe in a version of god. Are they infallible? Is it at all possible for them to tell you something they sincerely believe, but for that thing they tell you to be actually incorrect? 12. Are feelings reliable tools to guide actions? Suppose I hear a person in my neighborhood talking a lot about the presence of violent break in robberies nearby, and I get apprehensive. I am convinced by the passion my neighbor puts into this story, even though I've seen no tangible evidence. That night, I hear a noise. I FEEL certain that it is a robber breaking in to harm my family. I get out of bed, pull a pistol from the bedside table. Without opening the bedroom door, I shoot through it to get the robber. When I open the door, there is my son, lying dead on the floor from my bullet. I was sure. I relied on my feelings. My fear of a robber. My hope of being a defender father. Feelings, not facts. Was that a good way to live my life? Is faith factual knowledge or is it just a feeling, something you choose to believe, without any rational proof? There are things science does not yet have good explanations for. However, unlike religion, logic and science eagerly accept doubt, challenges and skepticism, and are eager to be revised and improved. They don't claim to be perfect. Religion does. 14. Do you deny that religion (superstition, irrational behavior) is the root cause of most human conflict in history, that for centuries millions have been tortured and murdered "because god told me to do it"? How many non religious books have you read? 13. Suppose a person has a book full of maps to guide a group journey. They rely upon it, but the group is perpetually lost. You question the book, but your friend insists that the book is accurate. "How do you know?" you ask. They reply, "I know that this book is accurate and perfect, because it says so in the book." Your friend insists that the book is information directly from god....but some other people wrote the book, based on their interpretations.....but that is okay, because of how passionately they shout about their version of the maps, and how strongly it makes your friend feel. When you show them hundreds of self contradictions in the book, they get upset and say that you are just not reading the book correctly. Which person is messed up? You, or the book fanatic? How do you justify cherry picking of which parts of the bible to follow? Leviticus much? Murdered and burned many animals as a sacrifice, as you are required to ? 14. If the point is to die and go to heaven, why not simply commit mass suicide and get it over with? Christ was quite literally a kamikaze; is that what you preach should be emulated in daily life? 15. Why is it necessary to use superstition and irrationality to justify your practical principles? Why treat humans like a donkey in need of the stick of hell and the carrot of heaven? If you want positive secular behavior, why not justify that behavior in practical terms? Religion preys upon the weak and the stupid. Rationalization is not scholarship.

So we should cross examine both Kramer and Collins against the Scriptures. It would be helpful if all the passages mentioning these locations were made public so each person could go look for themselves and we could all blatantly see what the Bible says. Wouldn't it be interesting if God knew these passages would somehow cause people to see it both ways and so therefore burned down cities in BOTH regions, one just not being mentioned in Scripture as it wouldn't have been relevant to Abraham's story? Just a thought. There could have easily been other wicked cities God destroyed and didn't tell us about.

God bless

Thank you! I just wrote this simplified that Sodom and Gomorrah in the Hebrew translation was at least 5 cities not literally 2.

It must have been more than 35 years ago i bought a used book. A pastor had done some scuba diving in the dead sea. I think he wrote of feeling building remains. It must have been convincing. My son became a marine archeologist after reading the book. Remember that Sodom and Gomorrah were in a larger inhabited area. There could be city walls and nearby villages. The Almighty God of the most high heavens is linked to lightning, hail, sparks that run along the ground, etc. Tar pits nearby provided the pitch used for cement in those days. I can easily imagine tornado winds picking up sulpher or slime from the dead sea area and leaving the dead sea as a pit whether the cities were there or not. The tar pits might be part of what made the cities rich.

Sadly there are people who simply can't believe they are wrong. You have shown a disregard for Ron Wyatt's discovery of Sodom, even though many have gone to the city.

i read the article (Hammam airburst). This is incredible. Not just Tall alHammam - also all surrounding cities including Jericho - and there was no resettlement for up to 600 years because os salt. The evidence is irrefutable.

And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town. Matthew 10

@@mariakaiser4403 Sodom aka Scorpio, is the first month of winter, when the year is divided into seven months of "summer" and five months of "winter." The leader is the scorpion, as in Rev 9.5. Fire and Brimstone can be read as thunder and lightning. It was Jupiter/Zeus and Mercury/Hermes (dressed as beggars) who visited Lot and his Wife. They were the only residents who shared their home and food with these two angels. Gomorrah, accumulated water, = Sagittarius a Fire/Jupiter sign. Sagittarius is where we find Nahor (snorter) aka the horse in this sign.
