Discovering THIS Hidden Gem 💎 on HADRIAN’S WALL 🥾

In this video, I explore this hidden gem Heavenfield on HADRIAN'S WALL! The start of St Oswald’s Way and The Way of Light - one of the Northern Saints Trails. The Camino de Santiago pilgrimage seems a long way off, so I am exploring pilgrim sites and hiking trails closer to home in Northumberland, in the North of England. Heavenfield Church on historical Hadrian’s Wall trail near Hexham is the site of a Battle in the 7th Century between St Oswald King of Northumbria and Cadwallen King of Gwynedd. It’s the starting point of two pilgrim trails - St Oswald's Way to Holy Island aka Lindisfarne and a Northern Saints Trail to Durham Cathedral.

Hi Kate, I am planning a pilgrimage walk in England - from Cotswolds to Devon. I'm only at the point of researching so far and coming from Canada. I am hoping to find budget sleeping accommodations. Do you have wisdom and/or suggestions about where to stay for affordable accommodation when walking the pilgrimage trails in England? Thank you for sharing your journeys with us.

Hello from the UK! Wow your pilgrimage trip in England sounds amazing! Affordable accommodations in the UK is more challenging compared with the Camino. You may be able to stay in youth hostels in some places and it is worth joining the YHA (you don’t have to be a youth!). There may also be some independent hostels. It is also worth getting in touch with the British pilgrimage trust. I was checking out some pilgrimage trails in Devon and Cornwall and some churches allowed you to stay on their church floors or in other basic accommoration for very low cost if you were a pilgrim. The British pilgrimage trust may have this information. Are you going to vlog your hike? I would love to follow you!

@@Kate_Pilgrim Thanks so much Kate for your response. I sent a note to the British Pilgrimage trust this morning and we'll see what their suggestions are. I don't think I'll be vlogging the walk. Too shy. haha! :) Very inspired by our videos though.
