My first and last pony was a black Australian Pony. I got him when I was 7 and we did pony club until I was 16. He was a show pony firstly and then we did a bit of everything (lower levels). He was always the quickest to get around the ShowJumping courses and caught everybody’s eye with his striking movement. He passed on 20 years ago this year and I still remember him as my best friend. Amazing ponies, thanks for the footage.

The Aussie pony sounds and looks like they originally found a cross that took the best of a Connemara and Welsh cross. I had one of each of these ponies so it sounds like the Aussie Pony would be absolutely perfect❣️ The best of 2 lovely worlds combined to make an amazing one 😍

Not Connemara , but Welsh Mtn Pony, Timor Pony (Asian breed), Hungarian, Hackney infused Welsh Cob, Exmoor Pony, & a splash of Arabian in the 1950’s. Very diverse inputs but the pony breeds very “ true to type” & have done so for decades with a Studbook initiated in 1931.

I grew up with these amazing ponies. My mother bred and exhibited Australian Ponies, along with Welsh and Shetland Ponies. One slight correction, Re colour. All colours are acceptable except spotted. This is because none of the foundation breeds had spots either. One controversial comment. The Australian Pony is not actually a "breed" in the truest sense. A breed of horse or pony is one that is found in a closed Studbook. Yes, the Australian Pony does have a Studbook, however ot is not closed. The crossing of Australian Ponies with Welsh Sections A & B is still permitted, with the resulting foals referred to as 1st generation Australian Pony. Whether or not the studbook should be closed is also a controversial topic amongst breeders. I also noticed that the interviewee didn't go into the foundation breeds. Although basically any mix of breeds was acceptable in the early days, the three main breeds were the Welsh Ponies (all sections), the Timor Pony, and the Arabian. It may also be worth mentioning that there are three distinct 'types' or styles of Australian Pony. First is the one that could be loosely termed the 'traditional' type, such as the one you rode. Second are the ones that look a little too much like Riding Pony. Lastly are the ones that look a little too much like a Welsh A. All different in appearance but all very much acceptable.

Such a Sweet good natured beautiful Australian Pony 💝🙆 I love her gait too. A sturdy determined gait that looks to be sure footed. Her head is delicate much like an Arabian. Love the dark eyes! This was a nice video with a welcome opening showing the many different animals in Australia. I have to say I bet that was long flight over there and back. Kudos to you for your Determination and Bravery ! It takes courage to travel all over the World like you do. I am sure there are bumps along the way that we-the viewer never see-and whatever they are I admire you for putting forth your great effort and Braving Onward! Wishing you very many more horse riding adventures. 🙆💝🐎🌞🍀 Wild Irish Blessings to you Alyssa ~

No The Australian Pony Standard says 11:00 HH to 14:00HH. 14:2HH would be over height. The Australian Pony has a primary base of Timor Pony, Exmoor Pony, Hungarian, Welsh Mountain Pony, Welsh Cob with Hackney infused, all before 1920, with some Arabian ( which would have been English. Crabbet type), addrd post WW2. They are rippa little “all rounders”, once the “Pony of Choice” for Pony Club & general riding by children but sadly somewhat taken over in recent decades by “Riding Ponies” originally imported from UK ( more recently Germany), which atr largely derived from Arabian & small Thiroughbred lines. Children with these ponies sometimes find themselves “over horsed” or limit their activities to Show Horse or Pony Dressage, as they are generally less versatile than The Australian Pony. Heavy marketing of Riding Ponies & the advent of permitting adults to ride ponies under 14:00 HH in official competitions, along with less horse knowlegible parents, has seen more childten riding very elegant but hotter ponies which is disappointing given the much longer evolution and qualities that have been carefully bred for and into The Australian Pony.

Um, did I hear correctly? All Lindell's Ponies are in Curlin's line? And, did she say Gun Runner, too? If so, is the Australian Pony closely related to the Thoroughbred? With that 'dished' face, I thought, Arabian, and aren't Thoroughbreds part Arabian, part Turk, and part Andalusian? 🤔 Rich Strike, 2022 Kentucky Derby winner, is a grandson of Curlin. Fascinating .... unless I heard incorrectly? 🥴 Between my cheesy laptop speakers, and the lady's accent, I wonder if I was just 'hearing things.' Such a magical environment Down Under. Thank you, Alyssa. And lucky you!
@pamelahay6242

No, not Curlin or Gun Runner. She. Ssid Koora-lyn ( Stud Prefix /breeder origin) and Gundarimba ( another Stud farm Prefix) which also has Koora-lyn bred Australian Ponies in their pedigree. No Thoroughbred blood in Thr Australian Pony. But thete is also an Australian Riding Pony, developed over past 30 odd years based on English Riding Ponies ( & morr recently German Riding Ponies), which have strong Thoroughbred influences along with Arabian & pony blood. The Australian Pony gets it’s “ Araby looks” from it’s Welsh Mountain Pony base ( over 10” years ago) with a small amount of Arabian blood introduced in the 1950’s… over 60 years ago. It is a well established “ type” ; beyond a type in fact. It is an established “ breed” and has been been for many decades with it’s Australian Pony Studbook established in the 1930’s!

If i understand well, there are 10 diferent ponybreeds in australia, with gundamarimbas and koora lyns. I saw an artikel from lyndell andrews, the owner of that koora lyn pony, if i'm right. But why name them australian ponys if there are 10 diferent kinds? 🤔

Koora-Lyn is the name of a Studfarm & is that breeder’s Stud Prefix. It helps buyers know what bloodlines might be running in a pony’s family tree. It can give the buyer a good idea of the various qualities or more specific talents likely to be discovered in a young horse bred by a particular breeder. There is only ONE Australian Pony Breed! But there are ponies of other breeds also to be found in Australia. 🙂

@@yasminhelenendangeredspecies maybe you interpret wrong, because i also love her videos, but i want to know more. So i ask to explain some dudes. For exemple: in answers on my comment you can find that they are telling there is only one australian pony, and google tells me there are 10 diferent pure ponybreeds in the australian pony studbook society, APSB. So who's wrong?
@joannesmartens9442
@joannesmartens9442 Жыл бұрын
@@pamelahay6242 i understand that koora lyn is a farm, ok. But you tell me there is only one breed in that studbook, and google tells me there are 10 diferent pure ponybreeds recording in APSB, australian pony studbook society. So, i don't know who's wrong? Like i love to know always more about horses, and Alyssa's videos are very interesting, i love them, because she learns me about breeds that i don't know. So many times i search on google to know more of those breeds, especialy when she shows only a picture. Sometimes i don't understand and ask her to explain, because she knows very much of many breeds. Not to be critical to her, like another answer on my comment, but to know exactly how it is. So in this case, maybe google is wrong, i don't know, but please ask on google australian pony, then to the studbook, and then to breed. You will see that APSB is recording 10 diferent pure ponybreeds.

I'm so glad you came to Australia. I hope you find/found someone who has Brumbies... Tragically the Government is trying to kill them all. I hope there might be a breed rescue somewhere in Australia where they can establish a stud book and save these tough resilient and reliable horses.

Koora-Lyn Fantacy is an 8 year old Australian Pony mare, measuring around 13.0h with approximately 22.45% Arabian blood and 17.4% Welsh blood. By Koora-Lyn Masquerade out of Koora-Lyn Fascination. Established in 1931, the Australian Pony Stud Book Society (APSB) is the oldest stud book society for ponies in Australia, recording the pedigrees of ten pure pony breeds - Australian, Shetland, Hackney Pony and Hackney Horse, Fell, New Forest, Connemara, Highland, Dartmoor, Welsh Mountain and Welsh Sections B - C - D and the Fjord Horse.The first recorded pony breeds to arrive in Australia during the 1800s included purebred Shetland, Welsh Mountain, Welsh of Cob Type, English Hackney Horse and Hackney Pony as well as Timor Exmoor and Hungarian ponies. The pedigrees of the most influential of these bloodlines and their descendants were recorded in Volume One of the Society’s Stud Book. Initially three breed sections were set in place within the Stud Book, one for purebred Shetlands, one for purebred Hackney ponies and the third, named the `Australian Pony’ section, comprised the other imported British Mountain and Moorland pony breeds imported to Australia from the turn of the century to that time. It also contained the pedigrees of the `home bred’ ponies, produced as a result of the crossing of various horse and pony breeds for over a century, thus establishing the genetic pool responsible for the Australian pony as a breed. Arabian and Thoroughbred blood is also present in the Australian Pony. Some years later, individual sections were set in place for the Welsh Mountain and Welsh Pony sections and other British Moorland pony breeds. (Credit: APSB Website)

Very nice to see other animals in australia, but the government killed hundreds of koalas, and more than 10thousend wild horses. Rabbits, camels, poisonous giant toads, 400thousend brumbies and kangaroos are a real plague over there. I think the government is to be blamed for this, because they did'nt controled in time. All those wonderfull koalas and wild horses killed. 😰😭😪😥😱
