An expensive misdiagnosis of a failed $400 wheel bearing could have been fixed instead by a .90 c axle O ring, plus postage of course. Check this out so you don’t end up a fool like me.

Great video. Good to be able to see what I need to do before I dive in. I’ve a front hub bearing start to fail so I’m replacing the hub bearings on all four corners. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Nice job. I had worried I was not using axle sealant when reassembling. You didn't either, so your vid is worth that associated peace of mind! Nice "built-in" 300 ft/lb torque wrench, too!

Being a fellow garbage mechanic I picked up a good tip from a friend who is a long time professional mechanic. Never Seize!!! This wonderful product is what I now use on all fasteners, especially those like your wheel assembly which may be removed again for further brake, hub servicing. It won't let the fastener loosen but coats the threads allowing easy, non seizing removal. Love the vids, keep em coming.

That stuff sounds like a good option, I haven't heard of it before though I'm generally the last to know most things. Your channel name sounds a bit dangerous. I thought jumping out of planes was extreme enough on it's own.

The Series 2 in shot almost compensates for the deficit of ocular appeal attributable to the absence of Ms Wilms. As always, thank you, and am looking forward to the next video in the Mojave series.

Greetings Mark. Wilms does make the occasional guest appearance on the fixit videos, I'll try to make sure it's a more common occurrence. This film was shot a little out of sequence and all the Mojave films are out though I think things easily get buried under all the content appearing online. Hope all is well.

It’s entirety possible to disconnect the ABS sensor wire without it throwing the three amigos codes. It will only throw the codes if you turn it on. But it’s easy to clear if you have the code reader.

cool vid, I've never seen anyone work on a Disco before. I thought it was really interesting. Get a cordless ratchet and some cordless impact drivers though. I've learned over the last few years that turning wrenches and ratchets is for suckers lol.

Why is it whenever I watch someone else do this sort of stuff everything goes smoothly but when I do it one bolt always seems to seize up or worse still shears off?
@ForemanAndWilmsAdventures
@ForemanAndWilmsAdventures 6 жыл бұрын
I have answers. Because cunning characters like myself run through the job before hand so the camera crew (Wilms) doesn't get to bored and give up. This trick also protects the ears of the viewer from unsavory cuss words that I'm prone to using when things get difficult. So when it comes to seized and sheared bolts.. You are not alone.

I had that problem also for a while. Now I use a wire wheel to clean the bolts, hit them with WD40 overnight if needed, run a bronze shotgun bore brush mounted on a drill to clean the holes. And if I know it’s going to suck I’ll put a dab of anti seize on the bolt for next time. I’ll also use new bolts if the old ones look rusted.

@ForemanAndWilmsAdventures
@ForemanAndWilmsAdventures 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings Matt. Once the car was up on jacks I found the bearing ran smooth with no lateral movement side to side. We were out and about to start a trip when the leak occurred and with a weekend looming I panicked and ordered parts quickly so ended up with a new bearing I'll probably use someday instead of a .90c O-ring, actually one came with the bearing so that's ok.

Wilms was the editor on this one she's glad to be credited. The Landy in the background is soon to be introduced, a 1957 series 1. I'm planning on ditching the motor which is a v8 non original that's in poor condition and 'downscale' (that's not a word Americans use very much) to a reconditioned 4 cylinder if I can find one that fits. Cunning use of spelling, I had to read it a few times for things to sink in but I got there. Cheers.

My 2c, I would always choose a vehicle in a country where folks are used to working on and where I get parts too. For the Western US that would be either a Jeep or a Toyota. Why bothering with a LR here in the first place? Just saying...no offense. We enjoy your vids though from way back then. See you out there one day. Where are you guys currently in the first place?
@ForemanAndWilmsAdventures
@ForemanAndWilmsAdventures 6 жыл бұрын
Greetings mauiman. You’ve spoken some hard truths. Although you can get parts for Landrover it’s not a matter of swinging into a auto parts store there’s usually some days waiting. The only explanation for choosing a Landrover here in the states is I went with my heart, a great ingredient for irrational actions. I do like Toyota’s and the older model jeeps, the ford bronco and the scout look interesting but in the end I couldn’t help myself and despite the hardships and inconvenience I’m yet to regret my decision. Madness. Cheers.
