We were on this ship a couple of weeks ago. The ship is beautiful, but the sailing as a whole left a lot to be desired. Princess had always been a great cruiseline, but that has changed and it shows. From the app and new tech not working, to the difference in food quality to the difference in service. Sadly, this will be our last cruise with Princess. Being owned by Carnival shows.

Carnival Corporation has owned Princess for 20 years. it is run completely as a separate cruise line though and is nothing like Carnival branded cruises.

OK you aked for comments: The Discovery looks beautiful. We’ve been on most of the royal class ships so not too many surprises in terms of layout. Observations: - Great the Crooners is back! Although it cuts down on music in the piazza - see below. - Looks like a few more welcome hot tubs. - Hope that the Vines replacement is still a good place to sit as overflow in the Piazza - where we spend a lot of time and seating is limited. Also we have somewhat unique requirements - we cruise to dance and the only place in the royal class ships is the piazza (Vista is often dark and empty - we feel like its where bands go to die). So we’re really better off on the Emerald/Ruby/Diamond which have that nice Wheelhouse bar and the Explorers Lounge. I would think even if you’re not prioritizing dancing those lounges are more enjoyable than places on the royal class to ‘lounge’. Sky and Discovery have the ‘Take Five’ lounge which is ok but there we run into jazz bands that would rather show off their chops than just play a nice rumba/foxtrot/etc. Also just to be bore I have other complaints about royal class ships compared to the older ships: - I mentioned no Wheelhouse or Explorers - No walk around outdoor deck - a lot of people enjoy walking or reading outdoor deck 7 - No Skywalkers which is a great quiet place to hang out and sit sometimes - Sometimes no Crooners - I’m not seeing much demand for Bistro Sur La Mer - seems they would make a lot more money with the Royal/Regal crooners bar…? - I kind of like that aft pool on the Emerald though we enjoy that large aft deck on the royal class for buffet meals so that’s a toss up.

I recently sailed on the Enchantment Princess, and this is a carbon copy with the exception of the renamed main dining rooms. Great ship and fun to sail on. It should be fun to sail on in Alaska.

Yes, I use the internet cafe when I need to manage important business-related email correspondence. I find using cell phone is not my favorite device for communication that involves more than a sentence or two that needs to be precise and highly accurate. Also, from my perspective, the internet connection in the cafe is always fast and reliable which is not always the case with my cellphone. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Android OS. My wife uses an IPhone 13'sh and we both have random connection issues during all of our cruises. However, the staff at the Internet Cafe are more than willing to get our phones re-connected and working again.

Just got off the Island Princess which had 2 smoking areas!! One out in the open and the other was indoors!! The stench was unbearable! Surely in this day and age we can have smoke free cruises!.. airlines don’t allow smoking; why can’t cruise ships follow suit?

Looking at this ship for Alaska, but it doesn’t seem to have any enclosed, weather safe viewing areas like the others in that class with the Hollywood Conservatory or a Skywalker’s lounge on some of the other class lounges. Did we miss it on this ship? Outside I’d great, but when it is rainy or extra cold protected warmer viewing areas are an asset. Any available we didn’t see??

You’re right, indoor venues are pretty much limited to the atrium venues 😞 These are nice but might not afford great views if sailing in Alaska, you’d probably have to wrap up warm and venture to the outdoor upper decks. Thanks for watching 👍

I love the updated, modern design, more light and less dark wood. It doesn't look ideal for Alaska, with no covered pool areas--the forward free viewing area of the Hollywood Conservatory on Majestic is much nicer. Still, I just booked Discovery for a Cabo trip in September, and it should be quite lovely, especially the wake view pool, which looks to go right to the edge of the ship. BTW, Juneau is pronounced DJOO-no, not the Frenchified zhoo--NO.

Here’s to hoping Princess’s next generation of ships address the one major flaw on Royal-class ships: the lack of an outside promenade deck at lower levels. After being on MSC Seaside and NCL Bliss, Royal-class seemed to be more of a floating shopping center than a ship.

I sailed on this ship April 10th. The ship is lovely. I was however underwhelmed and disappointed. This is supposed to be a brand new ship with brand new furnishings. My bed had he biggest dip in it that I could not sleep. My steward was very nice and put a topper on the it to make me more comfortable. The food was just ok. I have been traveling with Princess for so many years and I am truly disappointed this time.

After misfortune event with Ruby Princess last week the embarkation day that Ruby hit the dock and all passenger got stranded on the ship at Pier 27 in SF for three days our Alaska itinerary got short only stop for Ketchikan and Prince Rupert we are so horrified to cruise with princess again but because of they compensate our next future cruise with 75% value of the Alaska cruise price we decided to book Mexican Riviera with Discovery Princess. After watching your review I admit I get a little excited to sail with this beautiful. Can't wait. I really wish she will sail off from San Francisco port that would be so perfect for us since it closer to our home as far as I know currently she only take off from Port Canaveral and LA.

The ship looks beautiful and your tour is excellent, I have not been on a Princess cruise in about 10 years, but, always enjoyed them. Surprised that they would change the name of the pizzeria from Alfredo's to Gigi's, but, it looks fine and I'm sure the pizza is still the best at sea. The Fitness Center looks very nice and is quite large. The one on Celebrity Apex looks about the same size and I thought it was the biggest I had seen. I really like all the venues on the ship and it definitely reminds me of my many cruises with Princess. Looking forward to the Dining Guide.

I've never cruised on Princess before, my 1st question is what is the age limit for Kids to be vaccinated?? I've been on 4 cruises but all Royal Caribbean, looking to cruise out of SF.. I can't find the guidelines for vaccinations on Princess website??? On Royal the age limit is 11 years & up to be vaccinated but kids under 11 do have to have a Negative test prior to cruising??

I've never been on a Cruise ship. I'm disabled retired (I get around well) every morning sometimes as early as 3:30 I'm awake and have to get in the jacuzzi. Are there jacuzzis / hot tubs that are open 24/7 on the ship? Thank you for taking the time to read my comment.

My sister and her friend her on Discovery now , very disappointed to hear that the food is not what it used to be. We came off MSC and it was disgusting ! what is with the food?? once Cruise Lines start making money again they have got to get the food quality up on these Lines can't expect people to do only specialty dining and pizzas Royal Caribbean's food was Bland the best food so far we've had was on Carnival but it was a specialty dining venue...

We found the food on Discovery to be ok (apart from afternoon tea!) but like you say it seems a pity that you have to pay for specialty dining to get something better, but it is the way many lines are going. Then again I struggle to cook for our family of five so can’t imagine what it’s like to cook for 3000+ 😆

Ship looks exactly like the Sky Princess that I was on. Which is a fairly boring “old school” ship, which was odd considering it just came out in 2020. I hated the Spa on that ship, they only had like 8 of those hot chairs and it was small and all windowless. Felt like I was in a “dungeon.” I did love the idea of the Medallion.

Thank you so much. I prefer Gelatos to ice cream, there is a difference as Gelatos are lighter and more creamy. We love Alfredo’s , so is GiGi’s the same and still has no fee? I see the ship was in SFO, so wonder where you went from there. The ship looks beautiful, we are Elite with Princess and enjoy their wide expanse of itineraries. We have not cruised since Aug 2019 when we did a Princess Baltic cruise, have been too afraid with Covid, but are booked on the Emerald Princess for Dec 18 2022 on a Panama 15 day cruise LAX to FLL, so will see how we feel about travelling in September when our final payment is due. We have another Princess booked for Feb 2024 for South America. We like Celebrity too and have a Europe one booked for May 2023 to use a credit from an early Covid cruise in Asia in Feb 2020. We live in Vancouver and are ex pats from the UK. We always enjoy your videos, so professional and have great footage. So thank you so much.

I am considering the Discovery Princess vs Encore w NCL vs Ovation w RCI. The theather shows looked undesirable on Encore for a family...Ovation was ok but we couldn't find rooms w bathtubs which was important for some...Discovery seems to have good shows, casual dining and tubs in the mini suites but it doesn't seem like there is a covered swimming area?

After sailing on both the Regal and Royal Princess do not recommend having a balcony under the sky bridge. No privacy. Have just booked a suite on the Discovery for the fall and are a touch worried about the overhang which may or may not block out the sun while one is on the balcony. We'll see? We did enjoy the others I mentioned. Oh, off on the Royal, again, in June this year

I just got off this cruise ship on Oct 22nd. Very easy embarkation process in Long Beach IF you have already completed your process online or with the Princess app. When you have a GREEN status, you skip the line and go directly to the Medallion and on to the ship. Very nice ship and we have a couple of positive notes like the fact it is brand new, the ship has a free laundry (washer and dryer) on each level, large commun spaces, 3 pools, amazing food and the prices for coffees and drink is affordable compare to other cruise companies. Celebrity was and will always be the worst, I was paying 13$ usd for 2 Americano on Celebrity compare to 5$ usd on Princess so enjoy this cruise ship guys.

Someone contacted me saying that he is the recruitment captain of princess cruises, and I sent all the data he requested from me, such as passport, certificates and other papers, and it was approved to work on board the ship in a physiotherapy job. I am Tunisian and currently residing in my country, Tunisia ... But I was surprised that he asked me for a sum of money of 200 US dollars for registration ... I have no problem with sending money, I just wanted to make sure that this person works on this ship and that all procedures are normal and there is no fraud.

We prefer the drinks package as it includes sort drinks/coffees/water etc as well as alcoholic drinks and means you don’t have to go back to your room every time you want a drink. We find it good value for money when it’s bundled with Wi-Fi and gratuities 👍

I'm a solo cruiser, and I booked a standard balcony cabin for myself with the Premeier Package for March 2024 going to the Mexican Riviera. I'm looking forward to it very much. I've done three cruises before, all Carnival, two last year, and I'm a little tired of the "fun ship" atmosphere. It can be fun, but it also lacks any character. I decided to go a little more upscale this time and I'm making myself enjoy a more relaxing time as opposed to constant activity, though there is plenty of stuff to do on the Discovery. I hope it goes well!

Nice Video. I wish Princess Cruise ships would have more exciting attractions like the bottom dropping waterslide on NCL or the Wave/Surf Rider on Royal Caribbean. Even the newest ships just don't have enough attractions.

been on Royal 4 times, Sky & Enchanted once each........ great ships only real complaint not enough shade on deck for Carib cruises........ don't remember the "Wake pool" areas on them.......... been on Carib twice and just off Emerald last week........ the Wake pool area for buffet dining is our favorite........

I’d agree with you about lack of shade. I don’t like sitting in the direct sun light so that’s why we like the Sanctuary so much as you can sit under shade. 🙂

There is complimentary coffee available from the buffet but if you want barista coffee from the international cafe you will need to pay for it (there ares drinks packages available). There is self service ice cream available round the pool but if you want proper gelato then you’ll need to pay for it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

The class system isn’t pronounced at all on Princess. In fact, with all the suite options on Celebrity, I’d say it was more evident there. I agree there should be a bow facing lounge somewhere though as there isn’t one for ANY guests, irrespective of ‘class’. 🙂
