I have 7 of them in my rental car fleet. Upper radiator hose has blown on 3 of them. I bought 3 of them needing turbos. And 3 needing timing chain phasers on the ford ecoboost engine. Right side motor mount also makes the body vibrate. 2 water pumps have blown out on me as well. 1 at 110k miles and one at 130k. Bluetooth sometimes resets and turns back on. But overall I love them. Once you learn about them. It’s easy to prevent everything.

How do you look after them to prevent problems? I seen lots of people on forums reporting the alternator belt snapping and requiring a change on the tensioner too, I believe this had a recall?

I have a 2016 discovery Sport with 147K miles on it...we have driven it all over the U.S., from camping and off roading in Florida to Phoenix and the desert and upstate NY in the winter snow and all I have ever paid for is the dealership recommended Maintenace (LR dealers do charge a pretty penny for maintenance) but the car has been 100% trouble free, never a failure on any part yet...though it seems the AC compressor is only working at about 80% now as it doesn't blow much cold air at idle time in the summer, but once rolling still keeps us very cool in the hot Florida summer. I am on my 2nd pair of rotors and brake pads and looks like i need a third sometime this year or next.

So for our 2015 Discovery Sport which we purchased new. Only the grear selector has failed, that cost 1250Aud and I replaced it myself very easy to do. However I have the SD4 engine so I think I got lucky with that!

nice video thanks for sharing. these are sold in many different countries around the world. problems with the Ingenium JLR engines can be avoided by selecting an optional engine choice. in USA these can be found with either an Ingenium 2.0L Turbo or Ford EcoBoost 2.0L Turbo. 3:02 it looks like these are the bolts attaching the electric steering rack to the subframe, not the bolts that attach the steering rack to the steering rack motor. I know someone who owns one of these with a Ford engine and it has been reliable. The only issue so far is a weak door card that is becoming loose from pulling the drivers door shut.

Why does a brand like Landrover use a ridiculous engine like Ingenium?
@bariscam843Ай бұрын
I don't understand why they use an engine that is both expensive and of poor quality.
@BionicRusty9 ай бұрын
0:46 at only 46 seconds in and already it’s a golden reason to stay away from these cars. And for clarity, if your engine does ruin itself, it’s over £10k GBP to replace it. I’ve owned enough JLR cars to know that you should never, ever buy a JLR car.

I think the petrols are better, but I'm looking at the 2.2 SD4, which they used in the Freelander 2 and early Evoques. They're robust units, with just the general diesel failure points. In fairness to JLR, they're not the only company to have camchain issues, all the German brands have also had them, but for some reason they seem to get a pass due to their 'legendary' reliability.

Don’t forget the DPF filling up, needs long drives to run the dpf regen. Also my reverse camera filled with salt water, bloody expensive to replace. Recommend to change all fluids regularly to keep many of the issues at bay.

Petrol or Diesel. Which should i expect the least issues with. I love this car and im bout leave the Ford Edge behind because after 2015, the ford edge became a Rav4. So which should i go for? Also, does it even make any sense to buy a used one? Thanks for the info

I should add that there are loads of companies now who will rebuild the gear selectors, mostly for a couple of hundred GBPs or so... Easy to take out of the car yourself and mail it to them. EssexRecons, ECU testing etc... The steering bolts usually fail at parking speeds though, as that's when they are at their most stressed.... As you say, free repair at JLR, just call them to book. There could be a waiting list though...
