My mum had a 'reliable' Nissan Qashqai which had endless faults and problems. She got rid of it and went for an 'unreliable' Discovery Sport - the facelift version though - everyone told her she'd have endless problems with it but it's been faultless for the past 3 years, despite the Ingenium engine.

Thanks for the video - I’ve owned an Ingenium Disco Sport HSE from new for 7 years and it has been a real workhorse and totally reliable. The key is keeping it serviced regularly at 10k miles not the LR scheduled 20k. I’m planning on keeping it for a long time as it does everything I want it to do. The advantage of the 2lt over the 2.2lt is that it is Euro 6 compliant.

It’s actually very strange seeing you in a nine year old car that looks brand new and only cost about 30 pence to fettle in relation to the sometimes hideous costs you incur with some of the piles of scrap you end up with…so in this respect a very satisfying and calming presentation to watch 😁

@@paultasker7788 Yep, people look at me weird because I bought a French car for reliability reasons. PSA was best to be avoided between 2000-2006. Strange setup where a VAN-CAN bus translator was used causing lots of issues. After 2005, it was full can bus, after 2008, there are no more electrical issues. I've had zero problems other than an alternator failing at 230k.

OMG. This channel just went full circle for me! I first found the channel when I was looking for a Disco Sport, about four years ago, and have been watching since. I bought a 2.2 Disco Sport SE Tech SD4 manual in identical spec. Even has the same OEM towbar. Land Rover pre-registered a load of these in this spec as it was the launch colour and many of them were demonstrators. As it's half way to having a black pack with the mirrors, tailgate trim etc. I decided to complete the look with the additional black pack items and a set of black 20" OEM Aerovipers shod with a fresh set of Pirelli Scorpions. Basically looks like the HSE black pack spec. (the halogens are the only giveaway - and no, I haven't taken the SE SD4 badge off!) I usually keep cars for three years, but I love this thing so much, I'm keeping it for the forseeable, it's been faultless. ...those headlight washers are blanks by the way :)

I currently own a FL2 TD4 auto and a 2016 DS SD4 SE Auto. All that I can say is that they are surely proven for me the best of the best in reliability and comfort. I use the FL2 on gravel roads and as 4x4 - It is still better than any new Toyota 4x4 of any model!! Just keep to the following when buying a TD4 or a SD4. First think block off the EGR and remove the DPF and use the best diesel you can buy. By doing this it just increases reliability by preventing exhaust gas recirculating through the engine leading to unessary carbon deposits in the engine and polluting the oil. Always add Ceratech from Liqui Moly to the oil. It is worth the costs and really reduces friction in the engine and it is noticeable smoother running. Keep it away from the agents where you get ripped off - there are more than enough really good private Land Rover service agencies. And lastly you can treat yourself with a reliable and recommendable remap from Celtic Tuning. The new specs is 174 kW and 500 Nm torque. It makes it even more driveable and flatten the torque curve for lower rpm at travel speed. 1800 rpm at 120 kmh giving me 12.8 km/l What more do you want from a classy 4x4!

I have a Discovery Sport, first registered in 11/2018 (I think it's a 2019 model). Is it the last series DS180, before this new DS? The engine is deisel, 150 HP, of course... now it has more than 250,000 km (110 kW), no problems. The chain in the engine, even the battery, everything is original, the first installation. Regular maintenance and no city driving at all. And yes, I replaced the generator.

Have a 2.2 auto Freelander 2 with 140,000 on the clock. Love it, my mechanic says the most reliable Landy. Cannot see anything on the market that comes near it. So its going to have to last me a few more years. Though this early disco with the old diesel engine could be a possible!

Success story and the type of car i always buy, low milgage and full service spec, great engine as you say, i did have an f pace with a 2.0l ingenium engine before my current range rove sport and the engine wouldn't pull you out of bed,and sounded like a go kart under any load or pressure

I bought the 2.2 hse lux model last year from main dealer, love the car but had a few bits of work done under warranty. One of these was a replacement steering rack, I think this is a recall on this model, due to snapping bolts. But like I say hopefully going to keep mine for a while as I do love the car.

I parked next to an 18 Velar yesterday which was ticking over. I don't know what engine it had, but it sounded like a cement mixer full of cement and gravel and no water. TBH it didn't sound long for this world.

This I reckon is near the top as a perfect long trip, motorway muncher, ski trip car. Not an everyday car. They just don't shine as much with such use. The top for me would be something like a Volvo estate V90 with winter tyres and auto gearbox.

My son had one of these, but on a later plate with the Ingenium engine. Never out of the dealership for oil changes and DPF issues! I agree with you that the earlier 2.2 diesels were much better. Nice car for the next owner.👍🇬🇧😎

Insurance on Land Rovers is highly expensive at the moment. Also the 2.2ltr is Euro5. So when all the Ulez charges come in, you'll be paying! Just bought an Mazda CX-5. Have you reviewed one of these yet??

Every Land Rover owner I know says they love their tractors but hate the upkeep of them, I know of a mechanic who lives close to me loves his for towing the caravan but on many occasions has to turn down weekend work to work on his own vehicle, another friend adores their sport it’s 3 years old now so the problems are beginning to come

Insurance costs for keyless ignition Land Rovers have increased, though not by as much as the press will have one believe. I've just re-insured my Range Rover Vogue V8 diesel for less than it costs to tax it. Use a Faraday pouch for your fob & it won't get nicked.

I’m intrigued that the SD4 was offered in the Evoque & Disco Sport as a manual. That engine was only offered as an auto in the FL2. I take a different view of the manual than Matt. The clutch was a weak point on the FL2 & is anywhere between £12-1500 to replace because of the work involved

FYI - single electrics is the norm now for tow bars, so unfortunately it may still have been pulling one of those white mobile road block things as well as a small tip trailer or use of a bike rack.

Nice car that Matt. Although it's only a single electric towbar set up, it might be a caravan 13 pin socket so it might have towed one in the past.

Strange thing is, despite the Freelander 2 getting the Sd4 engine in 2010, it was only available as an automatic. However, the general consensus on the forums is that it suited the auto box perfectly as the Td4 was a bit sluggish with an auto box. Lovely car Matt, that was slated to be the Freelander 3, until some bright spark at JLR decided to add it to the Discovery range to make a "family" of vehicles in the way they did with the Range Rover range. So, it's a natural progression for Freelander 2 owners to move up to one, which many on the dedicated Freelander 2 forums have done. I will say though, many bemoan the interior, claiming it looks good, but feels cheap to the touch ! Both me and my brother will move to the DS when we decide to eventually move on from our Freelander 2's. Both on high miles- I'm on 160K with my 3.2 petrol i6, and he's over 180K with his Sd4 Sport LE - but they're just so reliable. Plus there's nothing else out there that suits both our needs.
