Little late to the show, but love your videos! You are going through what every other new RVer goes through and you guys do it with such positivity! Just 2 tips/tricks I use (and this is just 2 that works for me) A. Once everyone is in the truck, I’m hooked and ready to go, I get out before I move. I start at the drivers side front of the truck and walk around the truck and camper. I touch every single thing that opens, hooks, moves. Every door, window, every latch, hose. If it moves I touch it to assure it’s shut, locked, stowed and ready for travel. B) I drive the first 5 min (of course it’s raining so I get it) but I drive the first 5 min, all windows open, radio off and I listen. Make sure I don’t hear anything weird, dragging, rubbing. It will tell you a lot. Like I said, this was shared with me and I loved it and works great for me! Love seeing you all learning abs growing! I’m going through all your videos and can’t wait to see more!

Thank you so much Don Pee! You totally made our day! We are so appreciative of your warm regards. In reality, nobody can be expected to know everything about towing a 42 foot RV on Day #1. We believe that it's all about teamwork, keeping a great positive attitude, and facing each problem as it occurs. All of our videos have some sort of problem in it, but that's the way life rolls. Each and every experience is welcomed and we are thankful for the journey. Besides, it leads us to great people like you! Thanks again and Safe Travels!
Thank you. That’s the foundation of our channel. We make every mistake any RVer can make and then some. But we show it all. No edits or staged content. Just turn the camera on and share the adventures. We learn so much from the RV community and we appreciate it. Safe travels, Pam & Lee

Your videos are basically how i forsee my first trip/time out with an RV. I was supposed to get one for our florida to vermont trip. But instead just rented one to be on site, i am still taking my f250. But, it just seemed not too smart to rush into towing the RV 1000 miles on a first trip in less than 2 months, not to mention finding one and buying it. getting 5th wheel prep installed... since they weren't available from factory etc... heh i hate to say nice to see i won't be alone
@discoveryboundrv2 жыл бұрын
Hi Will. Renting an RV is always a great choice. It doesn't matter how you get to the campsite, as long as you are there. :) We agree, hitting the road on a long trip with a new rig is huge potential for things to go wrong real quick. We actually didn't want to show that in our video. We thought about keeping it simple. But then we said, everyone makes mistakes and it's OK to make them. RVing is tough, expensive, and a whole lot of fun. We hope that everyone can see that nobody has all of the answers on Day #1. Even after watching a whole bunch of KZbin videos, the only thing that helps is experience. We have met a lot of people that took out stop signs and even wrecked their rig on Day #1. I think we were pretty lucky. You are definitely not alone! All the best and safe travels.

After you empty the black n grey tanks. Go back and fill them up with clean water and dump again. In these tanks water is your friend. Black tank first then grey.
@discoveryboundrv2 жыл бұрын
Great Tip! That is absolutely the best way. It took us a while to realize that the black and grey tank gauges/indicators only work for the first few times and then they always read full. A quick fresh water rinse will clean that out quickly. Our neighbor in the next spot had a animal bite into his dump hose. When he dumped, it turned into a sprinkler. Now I keep a roll of duct tape hanging nearby. :)

You washed out the stinky slinky, right? That’s what the hose at the dump station is for. It’s also worth having a hose just for rinsing out your tanks. You prob have an inlet. Most newer RVs have them.
@discoveryboundrv2 жыл бұрын
LOL. Yep, we always save Grey 1 Water (bath) for last. Even if it doesn’t make it in the video, we always flush it with the shower water. Our problem was that the outlet was frozen and nothing could escape the rig. Our rig has a black tank flush port in the Nautilus Station. It works great. We used to keep the fresh water hose and black tank flush hoses stored together. Man, you should see the comments we got on that. 🤣 We have gracefully changed our approach and now keep them separate. LOL.

Get a Valterra Gate Valve. Really makes the dumping a little easier in that it can eliminate the possibility of a "poopsie" when taking that black tank hose off the rv

I realize that this was 8 months ago, perhaps you now use this trick. I found the best way to communicate was to use your phones. The driver blue-tooths the phone, hands-free, through the truck speakers. The person guiding/directing uses his/her phone to call the driver. Communication is much improved.
@discoveryboundrv2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Wonderful point. We started using our cell phones on the East Coast until we got out West. Bad reception, poor quality, remote RV Parks, etc. all contribute to our newly adopted Midland Walkie Talkies / Cell Phone hybrid approach. We actually purchased a Micro-Mobile Radio for the Truck Dash to communicate with the Midland Walkie Talkies. And we also purchased a SureCall Cell booster for the truck to boost to the poor cell signals when needed. This has helped us a lot. Great tip indeed and thanks for sharing!

Watch videos. There are tons of videos and checklists out there to at least have a starting point. Also, your wife needs to be taking an active role in all parts of hooking up, towing, unhooking, parking, etc. You never know when there could be an emergency. You should both be well-versed and confident in all parts of the journey. Also maybe you did this and just didn't show it, but be sure you wash off the inside and outside of the sewer hoses and any attachments (elbows, backwash, 45s, etc) before you store. Even though under the trailer, it is going to be awful next time you pull the hose(s) out! Use functional hand signs that work for the two of you, not whatever formal something she tried and you couldn't see. You need something better that is the thumb inside or out. You don't have to standardize across 50 drivers, just the 2 of you! Make things a little bigger, maybe even vocalize with it. No one will pay any attention but the two of you. But, she needs to cut the idle chatter, like "Lee you are dragging in the back" in that slow southern drawl with the urgency of spring flowers! Love your trailer. We have a new 2024 Jayco Eagle. You will do great because you are happy and willing to learn. The guy that has been doing it 30-40 years and his way is the only way is the worst to deal with. Enjoy the adventures that await!

We have NEVER found a perfect one! And we have been through a LOT of them! The Bump Stop Caster Wheels are a favorite of ours. Without them we wouldn’t tow this rig anywhere. Especially after seeing those videos of the aft wall peeling back so easily. Sacrificial casters are a cheap life saver. The poop pipes are mounted based on the straight line from the bottom of the aft tire to the bottom of the caster wheel. There is about a 1 inch clearance on those pipes. It’s definitely close, but to get more clearance we would have to shift them further forward. That’s too far for the weight of those support arms holding it up. The whole contraption is bolt-on bolt-off. We actually hit the wheels so often, my checklist has “Spray Paint Casters” on it. I spray them black to know when we hit the ground. No off-road adventures for us!

Thanks David! That is hot on our list. We don't have metal valve stems on the tires, so we will probably look into getting something that supports the rubber stems. Either way, you are correct and we need to get something on those tires ASAP! :) Thanks again and safe travels!

Gray smells worse than the black

Hi James, LOL. It really does! I think I must have had a loose connection at the dump station that day, because it's never really been that bad ever since then. I always have a good seal on the sewer hoses. I guess I wasn't paying attention or just so cold that I didn't care. Either way, I still remember that smell. :) Safe Travels!

Hi Joe. We have 2 videos coming up in Season 5 that will show we Definitely needed a 4x4 truck. 😀 However, most of our towing is interstate and highway, so we don’t need it for any of that.

I guess it depends on where you live but I honestly can’t see the point of a truck without four wheel drive.
