I remember when Discovery actually made educational content. Not this shark murder mystery garbage they keep churning out. It's too bad Thomas lost his life, but if you go into the ocean you should know the risks and accept that this can happen. It's also disgusting that over 100million sharks are killed each year, so I'm OK with them taking a couple of us in return. They aren't out to kill us, they are predatory animals who for the most part mistake us for something they would normally hunt/eat. We share the ocean with hundreds of thousands of animal species, we don't own it, its not our playground. It has to be respected and maintained.

Horrible title,Imo,.. I commented above as well. Horrible situation +Horrible title. I Apologize in advance for the wording here, not at ALL INSENSITIVE,( I save lives for a living.. ) -- but, I just find it strange,& sad, that most shark victims are bitten.. then not 'consumed' .. Shark tasted , didn't like , but took a life.. kwim? Stupid question- WHY do they still make wet suits black.. bottom of boards white? I grew up in Huntington Beach California. HS even had a surf team, Jr life guards,OP pro was held there- I never EVER recall worrying abt sharks like I do today( nw in Florida🙄)....but they were there then too! I'LL light an extra candle at every Christmas Eve Mass for Tom.. 🙏🏻

You know why they do it though? because people quit watching. People don't want educational content, they want to be entertained.

For those who are saying sharks just don’t attack people , respectfully you are wrong but also right. Not all sharks but some sharks are known to be extremely aggressive and do in fact, once bitten, will continue to rip you apart, pull you under, and eat you for dinner. Not all sharks will do this, some will bite, realize you’re not what they wanted and swim off, they’re just curious and only can feel with a bit. At the end of the day, the ocean belongs to those that live in it. If you willingly swim in the ocean then you should 100% agree that if you get attacked it’s your fault for being in their home in the first place. Never in any case, whether vicious or minor should a shark be killed and hunted after it attacks, kills, bites someone. Oceans are beautiful, beaches in the summer are fun and relaxing, but it can come with consequences.

I disagree that no shark should be hunted or killed after an attack of a human. There are a couple reasons why it would be necessary and one is if the person is consumed by the shark then it should be killed so the family can get the remains of the person to give that person a proper burial. Like that kid who was attacked by that tiger shark in Egypt was consumed and they killed it and gave the remains to the family. To me a family recovering the remains of their loved one is much more important then a sharks life who just killed a human and probably will do it again
@The-GreenHornet
@The-GreenHornet Жыл бұрын
@@christianburk7309ignorant and self-centered statement. The sharks did nothing wrong but doing what it does. You go into the ocean, especially known great white shark waters (like central and northern California, where great white sharks are plentiful) you take accountability for knowing that you could be attacked and possibly not survive. As far as remains of the person...give me a break! It's there's nothing left to have a open casket, so at best what's left of the body is cremated. Killing the shark only hurts the ocean environment. It can't bring back the person. What?... you wanna kill all great white sharks because all of them have the potential to attack and kill people in the waters close to shore. They are predators hunting for penipeds, but like all predators, they are opportunistic and will take anything that is easy to take down, even a human. People die every day, many through some type of tragedy. You aren't going to eliminate the cause. You go into the water, sharks in the water. Take your chances, and live or die with your choices.

Not sure why people are "shocked" that a shark attack occurred in the ocean in the 2020's. I wouldn't paddle a board out into any ocean these days. In fact, I would not do it if you paid me any amount of $.

Okay so I’m two minutes in to this video and learned a) this is a known area for great white sharks. Okay. b) there have been attacks there before. So why would you think it was a safe place to play? 🤦🏽‍♀️ The vast majority of shark attacks are the fault of man, and were preventable by using rational common sense. By the end of the video: I’m sorry that people got hurt and died, but painting a shark as a “killer”, the bad guy, is just untrue. The ocean is their realm, they are predators and do what predators have always done. They are stealth hunters. You have to take proper precautions, always have a Buddy, be constantly aware, don’t go in places known for their presence, have good visibility and so on. If you can’t adhere to the safety list, you enter the ocean at your own peril, and sooner or later your luck will run out. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m sorry that this happened to people who lost their loved ones but sharks just don’t attack people we are in there home and It not our fault that we look like there food source I’m not trying to be disrespectful but gotta respect sharks in there home and you respect them most of the time people go in the ocean at wrong times sadly . Sharks can smell blood a mile away or they feel that vibration in the water and they think it’s food .

Great whites know we aren’t seals. Their senses have been finely tuned for over a million years. They know what a seal smells like and looks like. Some attacks are exploratory but many are territorial and for food. The guy Simon Nellis who was attacked in Australia was bitten in half and when his torso was still floating the great white came back and finished him off.

They may not attack, but don’t kid yourself into thinking they’re never curious, some sharks will come up and bite you. They may swim away since we’re not that good for them to eat, but the bite is probably gonna be enough to kill you, if you’re lucky you’ll live. Plus some sharks are aggressive and territorial. People always also seem to think every single attack that has ever happened in history/world has been recorded, this would be far from fact for lots of “attacks.”

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT & CONDOLENCES TO this gorgeous man & his family--... the " title" takes away from the sadness &reality . If you walk in the woods, YOU'RE gonna hear birds, Step on ants, see squirrels... If you go in the water, you're entering the sharks cafeteria. The title is 😮 like CSI MIAMI investigating FISH MURDER, after spotting a fishing boat was nearby.. Again, Tom & family, I'm so very sorry.. Im glad the couple was able to,-- well, I don't know how to word it...-- find you..?

Keep in mind that eyesight is a shark’s weakest sense. A surfer on a board resembles the silhouette of a turtle or seal.

There's nothing to investigate. I'm getting so tired of these shows, with so many people in the water every day sooner or later someone is going to get attacked sharks kill to survive just like most of us do, its called the food chain, if you wnat to stay in top of it don't go into the ocean with sharks and other predators or the woods with bears and other predators, pretty simple really, if you go to these places you may get killed or eaten, so i dont understand the surprise.

It's sad this man lost his life but stay out of the water! I hate that people kill the shark but in our society they keep these serial killers alive in a jail cell! The shark is an apex predator thats their ocean. Sharks don't have the mind to determine this is a human not a seal. Man this video makes a shark the bad guy but they are not bad. Just stay out of the water, go to a waterpark and surf in the wave pool.

You are fooling yourself if you don’t think a great white doesn’t know we aren’t seals. I’m not saying they know we are humans because that would be ridiculous but they know for sure we aren’t seals. Their sense which are super powers for Christ sakes have been finely tuned over a million years. They know what a seal smells and looks like. The guy Simon Nellis who was attacked in Australia was bitten in half and when his torso was still floating the great white came back and finished him off. There is zero chance that shark thought Simon was a seal
