@@spiralrose Some whales can live up to 200 years old, some repordetly up to 300. Sperm whales as seen in the video usually up to 70 or 80. And since some countrys (think japan) still hunt them, there are certainly still whales alive that experienced whale hunting.

Not to mention that their communication is most likely complex enough for information about human hunters to be passed down from generation to generation. Even if there was no one alive from that time, the memory would continue to live on in the community. I have also had this experience. I was en route from Teneriffe to Lagos on a yacht in October. There was no wind, so we were motor sailing. We were about 120NM from the northern most point of Teneriffe, at 1600 hours in October, when we were suddenly surrounded by a nursury group of Sperm Whale females, with calves. The juveniles were .playing. The were trying to do what Dolphins do, but were too heavy. We could not count the number of mothers, but it was between 5 and 10. Eventually a mother was lying directly across our course, and we turned off the engine and drifted up to her. We eventually stopped directly over her. Looking down from our bow, we were looking directly into her eye. She rolled over and we saw this dinner plate of an eye looking straight back at us. One of the most awsome momenys of my life.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a bitch because I just was mean to you, but your story falls way too short to be compared to his. Go back to your yacht, after being sure to mention Teneriffe and Lagos even the time of 1600 hrs. So that makes you a world traveler. One crossed your path while motoring!! Looking down from your bow, I swear this is a prank comment, Right? Where's the cameras!! Too bad nobody's in the water, it would be a great shot from your yacht.

OMG!!! My mouth is still hanging open!! I'm a scuba/free diver (ret) so needless to say, I love the ocean and this, by far, hands down, straight up is the MOST incredible thing in and out of the water, I've ever seen. EVER, I mean she was there because she wanted to be. She went to him. I can't imagine what it felt like with her clicks and vibrations going right through him!! I imagine it's sort of like a lions roar, that roar goes right through you. I've been close enough to feel that roar going through me. When he rolled and then she rolled. Holy Crap! They were playing simon says!! Obviously he's not keeping her there. She wants to know about him. I literally thought I was gonna pass out when she opened her mouth right in front of him. I did notice when she opened her mouth that I didn't see the row of huge backward facing teeth. They looked like little nubs. She wants to know about this tiny creature. What's he made of or is he some kind of crazy fish? What an honor this has got to be for this particular ocean lover. OH MY GOD. My comments are over three days of watching this vid and dreaming of being there. I can't stop watching this. BTW it's even more amazing if you slow it down. And let's not forget there was another person who had the same encounter. The cameraman shooting the action. The shots he's getting are truly magnificent and hypnotic.

Your comment is written so eloquently and I thank you for sharing your experience. I have watched this repeatedly in silence, feeling what he feels, knowing the kindness and gratitude that fills his being. looking into her eyes and wondering how she thinks; cognitively? I know they "Feel", it's part of who they are. I am so grateful for the world wide web; connecting with like-minded souls, traveling to places I would not otherwise see, and discovering the generosity of individuals who have captured those once-in-a-lifetime, miraculous experiences and are selflessly sharing those moments of their life with us. I am honored and grateful to each of them. This diver appears to be a really great guy. Sincerely moved and thrilled.
