I would like to see gloves that allow the skin on my palms to be exposed, like maybe with finger rings. (Then there's no sweat.) But it's exciting to see how swiftly they keep inventing new technology for VR! BTW, your cat ears on your avatar were so cute! 😸 Great video again! 🙋🏻♀️

Having either direct camera based hand tracking or glove based tracking are both great innovations for XR. That said, I think I want both hand tracking and traditional controllers used seamlessly together. Being able to holster my controllers on a belt when not using a weapon would still be super useful for numerous reasons, while still off loading things like spells and opening doors to gestures and grips would be awesome. That, and if we could have the Quest version of the leg trackers that Pico is launching; having all three, hand/glove tracking, traditional controllers, and leg tracking, would make standalone VR reach peak natural control input.

What I would hope for is, that they put some kind of string on it that detects when you hold something and prevents you from going further. Ofcourse it would be very tricky cause it needs to be prevented from going further with some simple yet probably fragile contraption that might break if you dont watch out what you are doing with those gloves.
@Nobody-NowhereАй бұрын
These would probably also work with the new Pico trackers, kind of overlooker benefit of that system. That you have two small trackers that you can attach to anything. So a cheap tracking solution that covers everything.
@WindFireAllThatKindOfThingАй бұрын
Honestly, I think they just need to redesign the now-universal Touch Controller standard for more analog triggers: One for each and every finger with individual loops, and an analog thumb trigger on the top. Basic. Rather than fancy, compute-eating tracking or the Knuckle's pressure sensor, just cheap old school solution: More analog mechanical inputs for the human hand. Loops could also register reverse finger-pull inputs.

Would love to see someone try a shooter with empty airsoft guns while using the gloves. If the tracking and irl guns worked together you could theoretically run dry fire exercises with these.
@TimLongsonАй бұрын
An upgrade to improve these is modifying them so there are 8 buttons which you can trigger by pressing each finger tip to the same hands thumb. So right hand index finger-tip to right hand thumb = button 1, middle finger to thumb = 2, etc. 8 buttons is enough for any in game options without needing to use janky multiple buttons along the side of a singer finger, providing much more immersion. Would also love to see a haptic version with resistance on each finger so you can touch / feel in game items. But I do agree, fine hand and finger tracking via VR gloves rather than game controllers is still a big upgrade over awful plastic game controllers.

Looks like the Kickstarter says they support other trackers as well. - "The gloves themselves do not have spatial tracking capabilities, but several tracking solutions are available. We highly recommend the Lighthouse system and also support Ultimate Tracker, Quest controllers." So if used with something like the Ultimate trackers, no lighthouse would be needed I think.

my main issue would be the price for these. When the index came out, and the amount of issues(hardware), the price they where asking was already insane. it actually makes them look much better now. If they can properly price these around 300$ and maybe 500-550$ USD with tackers included. then it would be better to get these for sure. and overshadow the index real fast.
@ColinXYZАй бұрын

Here's my issue with these gloves, don't have them and don't plan on getting them if they still need trackers that are as bulky as they are. that aside I think these are a great step in the right direction for those that want finger tracking but have the complicated issue of moving around with finger tracking, I've tried it and it's awful there needs to be buttons and a joystick aswell as being tracked by the tech that is already inside the gloves. early in the video you said how easy they are to set up but then later say that you had loads of issues setting them up.

I'm highly suspicious of this. They claim to be a 40 person company having worked on this for 2 years. But now they're on kickstarter. As far as I can tell they've only been posting info about their product for a few months, so they've come out of nowhere. Do not pre-order, or back this, as there's been a ton of VR glove, would be makers, over the years, and some have just taken the money and ran. Wait for the product to actually be produced and see the reviews. Buy retail, not upfront and years in advance.

Yes but 500€ for JUST gloves. No. You need trackers aswell which is atleast 100 Bucks per Hand. I dont wanna spend 700 Bucks for smth like this. It costs almost as much as my headset like what. 300 for the gloves without tracker alright but 500 without?

I see everyone who gets a UDEX Real testing kit is exclusively using lighthouse/base-station trackers. Why are we going backwards in tracking tech when you have the most sophisticated consumer-grade gloves on your hands? Is this a co-sponsorship? Do none of the current IMU trackers have the necessary mounting hardware to fit UDCAP's gloves? In all of the testing videos I see an insane amount of tracker wiggle; small-format IMUs don't have as much bulk or mass, and wouldn't wobble around as much. I just find it funny that I can have better finger tracking than an Index user but the second I put a blanket on I'll lose all tracking because the base-station no longer has line of sight.
@T00DEEPBLUEАй бұрын
You've missed the point. You've left out all the inherent downsides IMU's have that render them unfit for purpose with VR gloves like these. IMU's are way less accurate than base stations and constantly drift over time, requiring recalibration every ~30 minutes. This might be a slightly more tolerable compromise for nonessential parts of your body like your torso or legs while hanging out in VR Chat, but when its your primary control method where precision aiming and reliability are essential for basic gameplay, IMU's are utter dogshit. Until these design limitations with IMU's are addressed, base stations will remain superior into the foreseeable future. This is precisely why Udexreal recommends Tundra/Vive 3.0's over IMU's. It should also be pointed out that tracker wobble on these gloves is massively reduced with Tundra trackers over the Vive 3.0's the video shows as they're way smaller and lighter. Just because these gloves work much better on a different (and superior) tracking system to what you're using, doesn't mean they suck. It just means they weren't made for YOU. Have a nice day.

Gloves are a horrible idea. They will become sweaty and disgusting over time and be hot an uncomfortable. Plus... picking things up virtually in games does not feel good unless you are holding a real object of similar size and shape. What we actually need is more / better controllers of various sizes and shapes. E.g. a realistic size guncon with removable mag to make the virtual world feel more real. Then... vr objects that can be detected by games like a sphere which can be a grenade or a soccer ball. A rod which can be a fishing rod, baseball bat, pool cue or sword etc... Then... they need to add fans to replicate in-game wind and heaters for when walking passed fire in games etc... These VR nerds are trying to be too clever and are creating a poor experience trying to do too much with too little. Mixed reality will produce the best virtual reality. I.e. real objects used in a virtual world.
