Discrepancies are one of the most common issues that a person may come across during the process to get Italian Citizenship by descent ( Jure Sanguinis ). The differences that you may find between documents in some situations may need to be amended to overcome any potential issues down the road. It's also important to understand the various levels of discrepancies you may come across, and whether it is major or minor enough to require or not require further action. In this episode of the Italian Citizenship Podcast, hosts Marco Permunian, an Italian attorney, along with video podcaster and dual-citizen expat living in Italy, ‪@RafaelDiFuria‬, have a discussion regarding the changes that some of your documents may or may not require to get Italian citizenship by descent.

My grandfather, "Salvatore", was born in Italy, immigrated to the US in 1914, and was naturalized in 1922. My father was born in the US in 1918, before my grandfather was naturalized. Unfortunately, on my father's birth certificate my grandfather's first name is misspelled as "Salvados." Is it necessary to get my father's birth certificate amended to correct the spelling mistake? I understand that to do so I would need to go to court in Massachusetts to do so.

yes you should get it fixed. because if you don't then you will have to amend it anyway when the Italian consulate reject your 1st application.

I have been dealing with Discrepancies on some of the Documents for My 1948 Case. One of the Current ones is about My Grandfather's Documents. Here in New York If I can not get the Documents can't be ammended then there will have to be an A.K.A. added to them. My Grandfather was born as Umberto and probably as a child He was saying his name and people were earing Alberto instead of Umberto and then eventually Alberto was then Albert. On My Grandfather's Birth Certificate and Baptismal Record has Umberto but on His Marriage and Death Certificates have Albert listed. Currrently the New York City Department of Health is what's holding Me up and Hopefully the A.K.A. can be attached to His Documents to Show that He is One in the Same Person who is listed on All 4 Documents. My Grandfather was Married in 1926 and His Marriage Certificate is considered a Historical Document from what I have been told.

How did this go? The courts really cared about this? I thought they were more lenient on these things

@@BradWillmanJ It's still in the Document Gathering Stage here in the US. Documents have been Obtained but they Need Certifications and Apostilles. Once that's done, then Everything gets Translated and then Certifications from the United States so they can be sent to Italy. Then once in Italy, Italy has to Certify Everything themselves so they can be used in the Italian Court System.

@@mr.dsproductreviewchannel so the changes to the documents are required even just to get them appostiled and translated?

My grandfather's Italian birth certificate says Born November 23rd. But then his Naturalization paperwork says November 24th, and also his Death Certificate says the 24th- so be believed he was born on the 24th. Apparently this is very common, as the birthdays in Italy weren't registered until the following day. Is this a worry for me ?

Marco needs to be very clear on how long this takes. My appointment with the Italian consulate is April 2025. I applied before Covid June 2019. This is six years, even though the rest of my family got their appointments only after two years.

In earlier videos about the discrepancies he goes into great detail about the length. Also particularly he talks about how backed up LA and Chicago are.

Following the "Jane Smith" example, that usually gets cleared up in the divorce decree language by stating the individual will go back to using their maiden name. Very strange, and unfortunate for her.

Will you guys be able to post these on Apple Podcasts in the future? I love listening while I’m cooking or driving, so the video function can make that difficult. Love the content and this company! Thanks ❤️

Do you have a service of finding a parent’s ( my mother) birth certificate?? Thought she was born in Palermo however, either Palermo municipality was being lazy and just said they couldn’t find it ( happen with my fathers birth certificate) or they wanted me to pay someone to do it for €300 which I said no. What if someone doesn’t know where their parent was born in Italy and has zero clue. I can obtain my mothers naturalization records here in the USA if that helps
