Discussing Automatic to 6 Speed swap in my 2004 XT Forester.

This is awesome dude! Been wanting to do this swap for awhile now! I'm in the Pacific Northwest too and got a used red 2004 automatic Forester XT last year in April and have been loving it.....but really REALLY want to do a manual transmission swap. Even just having the 5 speed would be amazing. Thanks for the in depth discussion! Must be a BLAST driving that bad boy now!

Car was super fun! I ended up selling it and am into a WRB 07 XT Sports now.. I miss the 04 with the 6MT.

Best years for the XT Forester. I think they're the best looking too. Is that an ej205? Or did those pre-05's get the ej255?

was the driveshaft or axels diffrent at all?

since switching to the mt ecu have you had any problems connecting a cobb or obd2 cable? I have the same thing done to my car but with an auto ecu. I have to disconnect the tcm in order for the Cobb to read.

My AP read the car just fine.. I had to use a MT tune on my car obviously since I was on a MT ECU. I obviously deleted my TCM completely in my swap.

Which 6 speed you using? Is the spec b 6 speed good? I don't want to deal with the dccd too much money on sti swap.

The lengths people will go to to really enjoy their cars! I got lucky when I found my 05 lgt wagon with a 5 speed. I definitely was willing and paid a premium for it driving from Seattle to Portland to pick it up. I wonder if my 5 speed ever kicks the bucket how difficult it would be to do a 6 speed swap myself. I have to imagine it would be a lot easier than swapping from an automatic.

The trans swap itself should be super easy.. Day job compared to a week long project for the auto to manual swap.

You wouldn’t by chance have a parts list or anything would you? I’m looking into auto swapping my 03 xt:( the auto is slipping and I can’t find a good deal around me on a stick wrx or Impreza so the swap would be my best option. I’ve already done a motor swap so Manila can’t be too bad lol. I just can’t have the car on the lift in my shop for too long because my classes start up again mid January so the better the part’s list I can build the sooner and quicker I can finish the conversion
