While a lot of us talk about "eye appeal," I wanted to show some of my vintage football cards, through that lens. Jim Brown, Johnny Unitas, Otto Graham, Gale Sayers, Bart Starr, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and other Hall of Fame football players are included in my collection. I take an opportunity to show off some of my PSA and SGC graded cards as we jump into football season. I always enjoy having a chance to share some of the cards in my collection, and doing so with football cards, which I feel continue to be a good deal, is always a treat.

You won’t find me turning away for football! The Bowman cards are so classic and look great. I am a football card collector first, so for me this was one of your best videos. I have some vintage football, but not as much as you. Always like to see the cards and hear your stories. I buy a lot, relatively speaking, of raw football. Mostly 1970’s cards. Get some graded, but keep most raw. You can just see the card much better not in slabs. Since I plan to keep most of them, no great reasons to grade them. Thanks for the video!!!

Great Video Graig ! I definitely think you will reach out to more collectors on why to get into vintage football. Logically you could build a whole set from the 50’s for same price of a baseball set from mid 70’s would be my guess. They are much rarer, the sets are much smaller, and much cheaper due to interest obviously. It looks like you have an awesome start on some really great all time Hall of Famers. It was really fun being with you at Strongsville to help with the decision making on the Sammy Baugh’s. I will always remember that day. I hope you go stronger on football and your pirate set after you get your last grail card in baseball. I watch all your videos and if this one gets less likes and comments at least you will know who your best fans are ! 😂

Great football cards... Every time I hear the PSA guy say "grades can be different every time they are graded", my head explodes. One grade difference can double, triple or more exponentially changing its price. Your card values are based on the luck of the draw. That's crazy to me. Like all of us do these days, I look for under graded cards with grade eye appeal and on many occasions sent them in to get the proper grade IMHO...
@ACD1994
@ACD1994 2 ай бұрын
That's why I don't send cards to PSA. I feel like if I cracked out some of my SGC slabs, I could receive a higher grade, too. But is it worth it? I don't know...I don't know. Maybe once TAG or another company uses their technology to grade the vintage cards...none of this will really even matter. Hard for me to say except only time will tell. I would be interested how much of ''eye appeal'' TAG does their grading based off of.

I started my football card collecting in the late 50s and I love the cards you showed. I have several of them from my boyhood collection, but not graded and not in as good as condition as yours. One thing I’m reminded of, as you were showing your cards, is I just love the old card sets because there no inserts or parallels or any of that nonsense. There was essentially just one card for every player and you could collect the whole set if you set your mind to it. Do you have the old Y.A. Tittles when he was with the 9ers. He had some really cool ones.

That 69 Sayers is definitely undergraded. IMO. That's a nice collection Graig. And you can tell you bought the players cards you like and the eye appeal not the grade. I have a few football cards. And your video may Kickstart me to be more focused on better cards of a half dozen or so players. Most of my favorite players were in the 70s. Staubach. Walter Payton. I like John Stallworth because he played at Alabama A and M close to me. And he's still active in the community. And one other thing I love the cards that show the players with no helmets . Just makes for a better card to me. I'm good with football card videos basketball card videos. Pirate videos. A variety is what I watch anyway.

For the ‘71 Topps Sayers that was graded a PSA 7 you say the centering is off on the front at the very worst to 70-30 otherwise it would have got a much higher grade as it looks near perfect to you. Assuming that means a 9 or a 10, you are essentially saying that for that amount of front of the card off centering PSA docks 2 to 3 on the grading scale. Is that assumption something you believe to be true?

What I like about the video. You're showing some cards from your collection. And they are cards from a different sport other than baseball. It has been said for years that vintage football cards have been under valued .I think vintage basketball too, but this argument could be made for lots of sports. Nothing will change...unless well...we will see. Now for what I didn't like so much about the video, is pooh-poohing on nearly, every single grade. This is actually, one of my pet peeves on KZbin. Though most your other viewers may be unbothered. However, I doubt you or anyone else would complain or would have been critical of those (PSA grades) had they all came back in high end grades. 8''s, 9's, and 10's. I think you may have unintentionally made the case for keeping cards raw. Then if you want. You can grade them yourself. Like Dylan does. And can buy your Mag Pro MidLife Slabs. There is one question though, we should ask ourselves. If PSA can change their mind on a day to day basis. What is stopping SGC then from not changing their mind too?
@MidLifeCards
@MidLifeCards 2 ай бұрын
I think SGC has better leadership...in my humble opinion.

Look at the pop counts of vintage basketball, football, and even soccer versus baseball. Then check out the ratings and global popularity of the four sports; baseball is declining while the others are growing. One of two things is clear: basketball, football, and soccer are undervalued, or baseball is overvalued.
@ACD1994

There are some collectors who buy and hold soccer, and then when it's closer to the World Cup. They flip them. Not a bad way to make money if you know what you're doing.
