One thing I really like about LS videos is that I listen to them while I play ranked. I seem to do better and win more games. Not because he's teaching me directly, but because I tend to tilt less than when I'm listening to music or talking on skype to others. I can't wait for my own session!

You brought up a really good point about the idea of wanting to get better vs the idea of actually getting better many people continue to play countless amounts of games and never try to actively improve their mistakes as a player, and as a result fail to climb elo. Compared to the player that goes out into custom games and practices csing technique and listens to people's adivce such as your own, in order to improve their basic fundamentals and eventually climb elo as their mechanics and overall skill improve. Btw burstfire301 uploaded his coaching session with the same guy you coached (pink blits) on his youtube channel.

I have watched LS for months, And i know i have improved in League A LOT from it... But not just that, I have learned how to take aspects of other game modes to improve my soloQ Games, Such as Aram, Bot and Normal mode games (Yes LS I know you dont like these modes!) I have learned how to become better through these modes because LS Teached me how to become better through common sense and future planning in his videos... He have also thought me how i can look at b.e Faker SoloQ Games and Apply his playstyle into my own and mold it into my fitting (yes i know i am not faker) And improve from watching high Level players play. By Watching LS's Videos and judging by their productive value wich is pretty god damn high, I have increased more rapidly in skill then most People probably have over multiple Seasons... For example, I have only played Ranked for 1 season And i am beating players in Gold and platinum.. While that doesnt mean much at all, since as LS consistently says is "They are all bad" It still shows that by working hard and practicing With the Tools LS have given me, I am able to improve a lot... But i firmly believe that If you want to become better, You would become better simply by wanting it... A lot of People get Coaching because they need the quick fix, or they think they will instantly get better after a session, Personally I Will watch videos untill i get the Whole Message then i will Practice it untill I master it! I have a long way to go before i can Call my self a good LoL player.. But i firmly believe that i am improving faster then most People do because I Accept that i am shit at the game, And LS Tells me in every god damn video i am shit at the game... And i want to prove him that one day i will not be shit at the game.. I'll become a machine!.. LOL wow long post.. I am greatfull to you for calling me shit! it motivates me to get better, hurray

Hello LS, dont know if this has already been mentioned, but would love it if you answered if not so. I personally understand most of the things you talk about and how you got to that thought. But here's the catch; sometimes I, and I'm guessing many others, do understand what you mean, but we cant catch the thought process behind it. I have no examples at the moment, and I do think you voice the "thought process" in most of the cases. It's just that sometimes you leave me baffled. I know the outcome of the sitatuation is excactly correct, but I dont know how your brain managed to end up in the outcome. So do you think it's better to let people figure it out themselves? Or would you perhaps prefer a style of coaching where you teach people how to independently think about the game and strategy more, and perhaps teach the right train of thought when it comes to league and improving?

I think the analogy between your styles is like between school teaching and university teaching - in school you first learn basic Newtons equation (F=mg), then universal gravitation equation, then same equation in calculus form, and finally someone mentions general relativity theory. At various steps of the process you can do more things and you can learn about other problems using incorrect/simplified knowledge to approximate how to approach them, but at certain points in time you wouldn't be able to understand some stuff let alone calculate it (like: how does GPS work - this requires general relativity). In university you get all the correct and exact information with the assumption that you'll get to learn how to use it later, or at least be able to get to it on your own, by just knowing that stuff exists and seeing what you lack now making you unable to use it at the moment. Both methods work, second one just requires person willing to do a work and actually solve problems they encounter on the way, otherwise it'll fall flat. First (school-like) is much better for people who can't or don't want to put significant effort into improving on their own.

Please Correct me if im wrong, but Gold V OCE roughly translates to silver III-V NA right? If so, I couldn't ever imagine me( a silver III Lulu Main) ever trying to tell LS whats what. :/ Also a side note, as an Education Major, i can say that Ls's method is superior, as long as the student is compliant, self-critical and willing to learn. If the student isnt willing to work, the babying from the OCE guys method is technically superior, but what is even the difference between not improving and improving for only one patch? Right? I know why I enjoy watching lastshadow9 over other coaches is because. The use of certain tactics and over-all strategy is coupled with the fact that Point A. He dump trucks information onto the player. The player will comprehend maybe 1% maybe 100% of it but will forget about it. However, that 1% that will stick with them will resonate through them for the next times. Point B. The rest is up to the player to continue to follow in the foot steps of not necessarily right play, but continuing good choices to help themselves improve. A lot of what the other person's arguments validity are completely moot. He's angry at Lastshadow's blunt style, the use of advanced tactics to someone who is new, the use of being too advanced for some players. As, it really comes down to, "Does human understand information if yes? continue, if no? rephrase and reform idea so that they understand it better." That's it, the rest is up to the player to continue their lonely island improvement plan. Coaches prepare students so that the information is better regimented. Other then that students obtain a certain quality that they will take it isnt' through experience and time will they gain a bit of knowledge and wisdom and put those practices to good use. A lot of what is in this video in my eyes are worthless and should've not been posted. There are thousands of youtube channels 99% of the videos are about cats. 1% of the videos are useful information. Most of the time last shadow's information is that 1% for me. 99% it's just cats. Also, it's your voice that I enjoy the most. If the person has an annoying high pitch voice, too many ums and pauses, and not being confident in what they are saying in a reasonably fluid sentence I skip over it after 3 seconds of listening.

I thought the point that the other person was trying to get across was basically: "People learn things the fastest in a different way. As a coach I think you have to approach them differently while keeping the message the same". A personal approach. I agreed with this as people obviously have different thought-processes, but after a while I just wasn't sure what he was trying to say anymore. I think, trying to go with LS's analogies wasn't the best idea; He got lost in them. It made it harder for him to get his message across. The natural selection part killed me.

In the vod review, Tsm has vision of dig's top jungle and can see that vi isn't in blue jungle--they also probably know vi isn't top because sivir is solo pushing without flash. Why didn't tsm send maokai to go homeguard to baron instead of holding something that he would probably die for (with vi being bot)? I think Tsm would be able to reciprocate well from the 2-3 tower loss with baron because they have a fairly save comp to avoid getting disorganized in teamfights (spellshields and double heal) and have good siege and pick potential--provided they use their vision of blue side jungle to push with baron buff. If this is not a good move for tsm, then why isn't it a good move?

LS, I believe you said somewhere, I'll paraphrase, "If you've played for 2-3 years and you're gold or plat, you can never go pro, except the 0.00001% chance...". Do mean that from a biological standpoint or a mentality one? You mentioned the chess grandmasters having unique brainwaves, do you think that applies to league, and is that something that cannot be trained? I've played League for ~3 years, but I would say for about 2 of them I just played blindly and didn't actually work to improve. This last year I've worked on improving myself as a player with knowledge rather than simply logging games. Do you think a shift in mindsets like that (going from a Call of Duty blind shooting game to a chess-like strategy game) is able to give me the boost I need to make it, not even pro, but at least Master or Challenger, or has my biology forever doomed me to just below high level gameplay in everything I play?
@octavioavila65482 жыл бұрын
he also said "if you are trying to get better you already lost", so because you now have this mindset of "I'm ready to consciously take steps to improve at the game!" you already lost your chances to do so. You were supposed to reach Master, Grandmaster, and/or Challenger during your "Call of Duty, mindless playing phase". The fact that you didn't already means that you won't be able to. As a result, whatever rank (+- 2 tiers) you reached after the 3 years you played League is the MMR range where you belong forever, for the rest of your time playing League and it will never be higher or lower than that no matter how much you practice or learn

OCE guy makes a good point when he says most people can't stomach all the facts at once. It is like how teachers teach basic maths first then reveal 'more correct' variations of algebra later on. There was almost nothing gained from this conversation, it was obscure analogies that never really panned to mean anything meaningful (from both speakers) On several occasion they switched metaphors to the point where I couldn't tell which part of the metaphor the speak is supposed to be. I am a huge fan of LS but I believe calling the other coach a fraud wasn't the correct way to handle the situation especially considering how open minded the other guy was coming into it. EDIT: It's hardly making him a fake, for example my older brother is a GM in sc2 and was giving me lessons because he wanted me to be semi decent (I'm plat which is shitter elo). He didn't spam everything I could need to know about sx2 in my face at the same time he started off in bite sized increments, ie vision, reading builds, macro. I believe this is similar to what the OCE coach is doing, selective teaching based on their current skill level, comprehension ability.

whats the reason behind the some of the decisions you tell us to make in game
@SukkMyScope8 жыл бұрын
@lastshadow9 Please read, you may find it helpful. The dude discussing with lastshadow9 is making me cringe pretty hard. I only watched like half of the video before making this comment but anyways: He started the video basically by saying his "problem" with lastshadows coaching, and then slowly drifted towards talking about how lastshadows way of coaching was just a "way of coaching that doesn't work for everyone" The problem with this is, lastshadow KNOWS his coaching doesn't work for everyone, so it's not a problem. Because the people that lastshadows coaching DOES work for, are the people who will find the most success and the only people who (also in my opinion) are worth coaching. Also I'd like to just clear something up that the reason you guys got stuck on the nicotine patch analogy for a while is because it simply doesn't fit correctly into the discussion lol. So we established that the nicotine patch is a quicker solution than the sessions of therapy. But the nicotine patch was the equivalent to lastshadows coaching while the sessions were the equivalent to the other guys coaching. When in reality the other guy is the one teaching the meta and is the one that is giving the "quick fix". While even though last shadows coaching may only be one session, if you apply the knowledge, it's a much longer fix and will lead to less backsliding during meta shifts than the other guys coaching. Which means in this analogy lastshadow would actually be the sessions of therapy and not the nicotine patch. But overall just a shitty analogy to bring into the discussion lol. Overall throughout this entire video lastshadow was right in the sense that: Learning the fundementals is the only way to reach the highest level of success in league over the course of many metas. Therefore teaching it is the most effective way of coaching. Lastshadow never states that his coaching will work for everyone, but he does state that for anyone that applies his coaching CORRECTLY will see the best results. And that it's not his problem if they cannot apply it correctly, because the only people he is concerned with are the people that can apply it correctly. The only critique i can give to last shadow is that there are less advance but still FUNDAMENTAL lessons that you can teach. For example, you go on a lot about very advanced lane positioning, which IS fundamentals. But you could also talk about little tips and tricks for lower elo players involving how to cs more efficiently, which would still fall into the category of fundamentals. So basically my point is, something that neither of you touched on is that you STILL COULD teach bronze - gold players fundamentals by teaching them little tips to cs better such as "keep an eye on the caster minions auto attack flying through the air to know when the minion will die and to hit it right before it does". So tips like these would allow you to teach lower elo players without having to give them meta - reliant tips that would serve as the "bandaid" you described that you wanted to avoid giving them.

i think u use a shit ton of metaphors instead of walking through concepts. i think even u will agree that u will bring up a point throw down an example then say "you know" i think that's one of the biggest things that this guy should bring up. but at the same time breaking it down is kinda irrelevant. id like to see when to bring up these tatics or when these do apply or even attachign them to champs or roles

LS this doesn't have anything to do with the argument on coaching but more on the part where Creationism was used as an argument to prove another point. I agree with you on the coaching standpoint for the most part at least. But specifically, I really would urge you to look at evidence for both sides of the Christian religion debate if you already haven't. From the way that you talk I am assuming that you are more self-aware than most people. But in accordance with the fact that I used to be a strong atheist, and therefore I was not biased initially. After spending countless hours researching I currently believe otherwise. Not saying my mind can't be changed because only a fool disregards new evidence. Not really needing a response but just want to make sure you truly look at the situation. I suggest Carm for a purely logic based argument.

I feel a little silly because I haven't watched yet, but what is a November Coach?
@LSXYZ98 жыл бұрын
+ljaquos A November Coach is someone who decides to coach because they like the idea of being someone in the scene, and are attempting to do so through the outlet/option of becoming a coach. In November 2014 Riot made it an official requirement for teams to have a coach, and thus the job was made through this rule. I coined the term "November Coachs" to describe the people who aren't suited for coaching/don't actually want to coach, but just rather want to fill the role. I believe they do more harm than good to players in the long run and it's extremely disingenuous that people would willingly opt to fill a slot they're not (yet) qualified for. Similar to January Analysts (Janalysts or Janitor analysts) who've entered the scene during season 6 because now all teams are on board with such roles.

I know I'm not LS, but in my opinion one of the most important things to know is the psychological mindset of each individual player on your team. Know what type of stimuli that particular player responds to, and that's something that I felt went very wrong with TSM when Regi took over for Loco. Especially with Dyrus. I know everything is fine now, but from where I sat, Dyrus was very depressed and felt his voice wouldn't be heard or simply was being ignored, so he didn't want to do it anymore. And that's one of the worst mindsets a player can ever be in. But that's just my thoughts, and I'm definitely not a coach.*****
@ljaquos8 жыл бұрын
Well in terms of what you have to do, it seems like you have to show up and show a basic knowledge of the game. As for what one SHOULD do, you should understand what's good, why it's good, how to improve a player, etc etc etc. It's very involved and requires a lot of refreshing.*****

Im not through the video yet... but with the comparison of coaching styles, i'm surprised the "give a man a fish he will be fed for a day but learn a man to fish and he will be fed for a livetime" isn't used. With the OCE coach style I don't how his style would fit in this? He wants to give him fishes even though he explained how to fish with a rod? This doesn't make any sense... Also the OCE person his analogies are so bad... He contradicts himself constantly but he doesn't notice it, because he doesn't understand his own analogies.

Woa nonono, is this burst fire301? He isn't even a coach, he was an analyst for a challenger team, whom recently got banned for his challenger community, due to him being completely and utterly rude and condescending, he is also extremely arrogant, and as I said, due to this natural attitude of rudeness etc. he got banned from his challenger community, so LS he isn't even a challenger coach.
