I'm using a Big Blue TL3500P cordless LED light for my primary. Does it make sense to tuck my excess long hose behind my waist webbing as an alternative to running it behind a battery canister?

Hi, I´ve got a question about hose handling. Where do you secure the longhose? In the waist belt?
@bloodymarvelous4790 Жыл бұрын
The long hose goes from the first stage, underneath the canister, across the chest, and around the back of your neck. If you need to secure it, you clip the second stage off to a D-ring, but the routing remains the same. If you don't have a canister to route the long hose under, get a hose retainer. You can also use a knife sheath, but I'm personally not a fan of that. The sheath is usually only rigid when the knife is in it. Once you remove the knife, the long hose can come free unintentionally. Also, the idea of sticking your knife into a sheath that's directly over a hose scares the shit out of me. Too easy to damage or cut the hose that way.

Thanks for sharing so much know-now Achim and Mike. I follow you both for a while and try to pick on your advises adapting to my way of diving always targeting safety and procedure. Could you guys sometime give some advice on configuration and handling of primary and secondary lights in sidemount configuration? I found very little on this topic and I have seen/experienced a couple of struggles when you start unclipping/clipping cylinders and the light cable gets entangled here and there. Would be great to have your tips.

Hi Garciela, Thanks. My personal view on this topic is the the cordless light solves this very nicly. Cable solutions are all kind of unsatisfying although it can be done of course. But with todays batteries and LED technology that is not needed unless you do REALLY long dives. I use my Alien Light in 99.9% of all my diving and it is perfect.

A dedicated boltsnap on the end of each cordless torch works great. But most cordless torches with enough brightness for murky water and enough battery to last 1hr or 2 at high power tend to still be a bit too long and chunky for the wrist.

What are your thoughts on cordless lights coming with sth like a „soft Goodman“ handle (eg Light&Motion Sola or some Mares model)? Is that any good?
@Blubpaule4 жыл бұрын
Soft Goodman handles are bad. they are not easily put on or off usually and they are not rigidly attached to either your hand or the lamp usually which just sucks.

My first post, but have used plenty of your tips from previous tutes thanks ....am based in PNG islands so only get the chance to get out of this place 2 x per yer + there is no dive supply store. Been doing some deepish wrecks lately and lost lights...Whilst the new guy reckons these lights are here to stay ...my question. no dive store limited budget big wrecks...canister cord or quality cordless...whats your the choices on both sides to research further

Have a vtl 3500p and a vtl 8000p from big blue. I've got some complains that are to bright, not that i'm blinding anyone with them. It's a hint that i need to pay more attention to those ppl wandering around my gear. A light may never be to bright, it can be too bulky, not last enough, too heavy, but not to bright. Money can be replaced, life not, there's no reset button.

So when you have no canister - where does the long hose go?
@CoastalDevelopment6 жыл бұрын
HI Chris, yuo take the loop and tug it underneath the belt. You can see this in some of my videos quite nice.

You need to get Mike to stand closer to the microphone, or get individual mic's .. I found him difficult to hear..

I never understood divers who spent money for excellent and expensive dive equipment (regulators, dry suites, computers...) and need to spent little more money for good lamp, they start buy lights over Alibaba Express!? Off course, after couple dives ask for my reserve light... and I`m pissed off

why the racism with 30$ chinese light? just saying a cheap light would make the point. stay on point please.
@mouisehay9303 жыл бұрын
Would you dive with a Chinese regulator?
@rahuls58813 жыл бұрын
@@mouisehay930 sure. where do you think your phone and laptop etc are made? ROFL
@markosalami23 жыл бұрын
I take your point, but I am not sure there are cheap $30 lights made anywhere else in the world apart from china. It is well known china makes extremely cheap stuff, some of which are excellent quality, and some which isn't. But the point is there is no cheap $30 dive light made in USA/Finland/Germany/Africa/Iceland/Austria... because they are actually made in China!
@songsfuermich2 жыл бұрын
That has nothing to do with racism. What they are talking about are untested, unsafe and cheaply produced lights with even cheaper batteries that are not protected. And those are mainly produced in China. So what?
@bloodymarvelous4790 Жыл бұрын
This has nothing to do with racism. AliExpress sells cheap knock-offs, and that's because patents and copyrights aren't protected in China. If you'd produce a cheap copy anywhere else in the world, you'd get sued. You want to skimp on quality on life saving equipment? Get your dive gear from a reputable brand and a reputable dealer. Don't buy Chinese knock-offs.
