I really enjoyed the video. Simple, strait to the point. As I was watching, I was thinking of changing my bungee on my XDeep….. which made me think : Inside the helmet where the knots are on the side and in the back… I would tend not to glue the inner padding where the knots are to allow changing the bungees incase it would be needed. Great job. Thanks!

I myself use my tactical bump helmet which I use for tac training there's no need to take off styrofoam and comes already with side rails and velcro patches so you can add lights or whatever you like using. You should try looking into using them I'm pretty sure you would like them. It's what works for me.

One idea: For removing styrofoam you can use acetone to melt it out. Of course it can be used only on shells from epoxy fiberglass and acetone resistant plastic. Ie. ABS plastic and holding straps may be unwantedly melted as well. It smell bad, but acetone do his job effortlessly. Especially for small residues of styrofoam it may help.

Yeah Acetone does react with Styrofoam quite intensely. A quick word of caution though that when melting Styrofoam with Acetone, you get a sloshy substance that is similar to Napalm, which is extremely flammable and the fire can't be extinguished with water. So if you do this, please make sure you have a fire blanket or similar close by. And also vent the work space and clean the helmet properly afterwards.

Hey Achim great video and very well explained. One quick question about the tension on the rear bungee. I agree that the bungee on your first helmet was a bit loose but I am considering having the rear bungee lying close to the helmet but not under tension. Let's imagine the worst case scenario. You're in an overhead environment with low visibility and one hand on the guideline when you're primary light fails. Of course we should have the switch for the backup light facing outward but seeing as Murphy is our ever following dive buddy, the button faces towards the helmet we can't turn the light on without removing it. Trying to one handedly unclip a boltsnap on a bungee that's under tension might be quite fidgety and frustrating. Granted it's a very unlikely scenario but that would be my reasoning for cutting the bungee to length and not have it under tension. I would love to hear your feedback on this if it's a valid approach or creating hazards of it's own.

Good morning. I saw your video and I would like to make the helmet too. I would like to know what material you used to make the padding after removing the original padding (polystyrene). Another question: how many lumens have the torches applied to the helmet? Thank you.

Hi Thomas, I used Sicaflex 251 which is used to glue car- un boatparts together - it sticks to EVERYTHING like hell and has about the same consistency as Silicone.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Actually I can find that exact helmet here in Malaysia too, it's the same helmet but different brands. OEM from China for sure :-) Really interesting that you are using that nylon airy materials to line the helmet, one question, when air is expelled from the regulator, some air might creep inside the helmet, can the air escape through the nylon material, or is it an idea to cut holes through the lining to match the top holes in the helmet to let the air escape?
@CoastalDevelopment
@CoastalDevelopment 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Henrik, The air goes through this material without any problems - no need to cut extra holes.

Great! I managed to find a perfect helmet, however finding the woven nylon liner seems impossible in this region. Are you able to elaborate or find a link to something similar perhaps? In which country did you buy yours?
@CoastalDevelopment
@CoastalDevelopment 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Henrik, The material is called "3D-Abstandsgewirke" in Germany. If you google that you will get a lot of hits also from Amazon for example. I did not succeed in finding out what the english term for this is - mayba a native speaker can help us here.

It is either called 3D upholstery spacer fabric or spacer mesh fabric. I am wondering how think is the spacer fabric you are using in the video. Most I could find online is 3mm.

Hi Achim. I am also in Asia (Japan;) I googled Amazon (US and Japan) and cannot find the same material you have there. I tried what you wrote, then 3D upholstery spacer fabric, etc. Nothing like yours. Most of the materials seem flimsy or without holes, etc. Why not just use the inner cradle of a cheap construction helmet which can be screwed into a sports helmet easily? Those cheap helmets can be found on Amazon for a few dollars US? I just remove the cradles and put that into a cheap basic sports helmet? Still, all your videos are very helpful and enjoyable. Well done!

Hi, in germany the material is sold as "3D-Abstandsgewirke" I think in other countries you find it as 3D Liner, it is used under the matraze so air can circulate.

Why not just buy a helmet that is specifically made for cave diving?
@gustavofortes7133
@gustavofortes7133 5 жыл бұрын
Because a "helmet that is specifically made for cave diving" will still probably need adjustments (like setting up a light mounting bracket) and will cost 2 or 3 times more.
