Discussion | Spaza shop registration extended to February

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa has announced that the spaza shop registration process will be extended to February 28, 2025.
This follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement last month that all spaza shops must be registered with their respective municipalities within 21 days.
Yesterday was the deadline for spaza shop registrations, however, many shop owners have called for an extension.
Ramaphosa’s announcement came amid a rising number of child deaths linked to food-borne illnesses caused by items purchased from spaza shops.
