you are right about the game not being on the same level gameplay wise as the newer games, apparently the only thing that was changed in the remaster was the sprites and a few graphical tweaks. even the credits state that the game is disgaea pc. i hope they'll bring out a patch or something like that. overall its a great game but a bad remake in my opinion

Personally, this game disappointed me. There were barely any changes compared to the pc port and not add really anything to make disgaea better. Can’t change your speed which has been a stable since disgaea 3, no cheat shop, the post game from my experience has been lack luster, healers don’t get exp from healing, or anything to make disgaea 1 better. Hell, the game just got disgaea 5 assets and used that for the graphics. Shows that some of the monsters didn’t come back from the original like galactic demon. This remake felt super lazy to me. Apparently there is a few updates coming to fix some issues, but even then this remake is still disappointing for a disgaea fan.

Spoke my mind right here, it's just a remaster. Which sucks, because D1 has an insane amount of fundamental flaws. There was really no point in not changing anything because we have Disgaea PC. Also as a side note, you can still clip into the wall behind zommie in the castle.

as I know when i was a child healer get exp from healing but not a lot ans even buffing mage get exp But this can be solved if u want to lvl up ur healer just let her inheart a magic like fire. all u need to do to inheart magic is just summon a magican from ur healer point and after that u need to go any lvl and put them close to each other so u can use fire magic untill u lvl the skill to 1. U don't need to keep ur magican closer to ur healer.. she can use the magic on her own.

Wow! I first saw this game on X Play.Great times! I am Glad to see a remake I hope they will remake 2 as well. Back in the day before people were making how to play videos, you had to buy a strategy guide I still go back and check mine to see if I missed something. When I first saw this game, I was not very sure what to think of it. I thought they were going to remade the game, and maybe add some dlc or extra boss content, for unlocking some characters and have more fun with the post game. It would be nice to have the guys from all other Disgaeas, Makai Kingdom and Phantom Brave in it, just like Disgaea 5. However, the fact that I couldn't find anything related to new extra content since the beginning kind of gave the idea that, in the end, there wouldn't be anything new to the game, just the graphics. I ended up accepting that very early on, so I'm having fun with the game, I purchased it for Nintendo Switch. I do recommend this game, specially if you are new to the franchise. It might feel old in comparison to Disgaea 5, I know exactly how that is, but bare with it for a while and you will get used to it. There is one issue that I'd like to point out though. While I do am enjoying playing the game, I think they made little to no efforts with this game, and that makes me a little bit disappointed. If you are a Disgaea veteran you might know this, but there is one thing that only the first disgaea had that I cannot belive they left in, and that is the fact that, when you set a whole bunch of characters to attack an enemy and hit execute/end turn, if that enemy dies before all characters have attacked, those characters that had not attacked yet will lose their turn. There is no need to go that deep to feel that they did not remade the game, that they just added the new sprites, but this small issue shows that they were very lazy with this game...

I opted for the Switch version for 2 or 3 reasons. First off, I have the Switch version of Disgaea 5 Complete and I didn't want to have one on one system and one on the other for consistency (missed out on the collector's edition for that one, but thankfully I got in my preorder for this one right when it got announced so I didn't miss out). Secondly, I own around 40 physical games on PS4 and 16 on Switch (Disgaea 1 Complete was the 16th one) and I have this goal I started last year where I want to buy at least 10 games for it every year so I can get my money's worth for owning a Switch but that's just me. And thirdly, I just want to be able to play the game anywhere so if I'm using the bathroom or laying down in bed or taking a car ride somewhere I'm good to go. As for the actual game, the first time I bought Disgaea 1 was when the pc version was released but my laptop started crapping out on me and I hardly play games on it anymore, so I'm glad I can finally check out Disgaea 1, even if this is just a port of the pc version I'm fine either way. I both like and dislike the first game since I'm going from putting in like 40 hours into Disgaea 5 Complete to this one because I get to see how the series was at the beginning, but I'm used to the stuff you can do in 5 so I miss the improvements that were made with each subsequent game. I guess it's kinda fun getting accustomed to playing without any of the improvements from later on. I also ran into an instance where the Item World spawned a floor I couldn't get past cause of gaps that were too big to throw somebody over so I can confirm it can still happen.

Switch version has alot of crashes in item world + main game. Thats why i bought ps4 version. Btw Nisa still didn't fixed d1 switch issues.

Oh great...good to hear. I bought the Switch version over the PS4 version cause I figured the Switch could handle an HD remaster of a PS2 game just fine. Plus I wanted more games to play on Switch since I haven't using it much as of late. So I'm pretty disappointed to hear it has technical problems. :/

Disgaea 1. You won't miss the features of the newer games if you've never played them. If you do get interested in the series, then buying the other Disgaeas will still feel like an upgrade.

in disgaea 1-4 yes even complete has a vertical throw but sadly they didn't go with the d2 approach so it all comes down to timing im not getting this....too pricy for way too little content

I really prefer playing any Disgaea game on a portable console. I played Disgaea 1 and 2 on my PSP and invested over 100 hours on each one playing at school or any place in my house, then I bought Disgaea 4 for the PS3 but I missed the commodity of being able to grind my characters while taking a dump in the bathroom so I bought a VITA just to play 3 and 4 on the go. I will be buying a Switch so i can play the fifth one at college between courses. To bad D2 didnt get the portable treatment, second best game after 1.

Having only played the PS2 version....i can see what you mean about the sprite quality; some of them look better than the fuzziness of NiS ps2 era games, but they're nowhere near as good as Disgaea 4 and 5's sprite work. I have encountered that issue you mentioned in the item world too: not having characters who can throw the distance i need to reach the exit portal on a distant platform. It's a shame there's no in-game additions or reworks of the mechanics too, but the physical items for the Limited Edition look better than other editions i've seen.

Another port, they just made a console version of D1PC with some graphic update. Its not worth what they are asking for surely ($50). People wait for a remake for so long, meanwhile I just enjoy playing the newer games. You know, Disgaea 1 is not the only Disgaea game.

Disgaea 1 Complete is basically Disgaea PC with only the sprites replaced. So I'm doubtful that they would release nearly the same thing again. I do hope we get Disgaea 4 (and 3, and DD2) on PC sooner or later.
