So even if they did save Artina, God, the universe, or whatever dictates time in the NIverse would have made so she still would have died? This does explain why events don't change when you time travel in the game.

Josh Miller Basically, time is like a pail of calm water and time travelling is disturbing the calm water. If the disturbance isn't that big then the water will eventually return to its calm state. However, making large disturbances (In this case, saving Artina's life) might be too strong that it will "spill" water out of the pail, causing the future to change.

Josh Miller I'm thinking if it's more like, if they had actually pulled it off, it would have been rewritten as if Fuka Kazamatsuri (such a badass name) and Desco wouln't have had to do with it, and it also seems them traveling back to the past was meant to happen, since otherwise, Kazamatsuri (wich got rewritten to Nagi) wouln't have sparked an interest about sardines in Valvatorez.

I wonder if this is a case of "the truth" or a predestination paradox. Honestly, I think it's the latter since the events in the DLC paint a complete picture of what happened between Valvatorez and Artina *without* contradicting anything even with the inclusion of Nagi, Fuka, and Desco's involvement. It even explains why it was that Valvatorez started munching on sardines to begin with. This explains the ending too since the timeline was altered and explains why Nagi was pretty much absent in any mention in history. Both as a power acting behind the scenes, and because of disappearing from her era into the future. Well, there's also the fact that neither Artina or Valvatorez recalls Fuka or Desco's actions. So, either tbey were sent back into the past of a very similar parallel world... or history converged since no significant events changed either before or after the pocket watch did its magic trick.

I came to rewatch this. The more I watch this,the more I can actually fit together everything. Still don't understand how some players can misinterpret the story so much. An example would be some are confused about the change in Artina's behavior. This one is rather simple. Valvatorez referred to her as pure hearted. So well,then towards the end,he is surprised by her change. So the developers did a pretty good job showing the change between Artina 400 years before and the Artina 400 years later. If there is one thing that could be done better in the game is for them to stay more rational. Towards the end of the main story it became pretty ridiculous. There was no need for character development between Artina and Valvatorez since it was already there. Though the main story sticks to the point of the promise all the way towards the end,where well...I have no clue what the end really has to with the promise. Destroying the moon? No insight much on Nemo? It was definitely rushed on that end. I mean if they were going off track,at least keep the battles sensible. This game has weak points,but the remake gave it many more strong points. Now if there is a part 2 to this game,I would certainly play it.

Well ranting aside. Just seeing those scenes between Artina and Valvatorez again,it hit me a lot harder than the first time -_-. I listened to the bgm more carefully,interpreted the mood better,and well...wow...just wow...the story on them were executed excellently. Though Nemo was never mentioned,then again I guess that would make sense since Valvatorez did not know him in the main story last I remember. It must have been before Artina met Valvatorez,or technically speaking,before they showed this time leap thing. Anyway back to the point,just felt that tension...building up to the final episode...and then...again,they were seriously just flirting in plain sight,well that's how it seemed throughout the episodes. Then that moment when she was struck. One thing though is that both of their designs changed quite a bit between those two time period,though Artina was not changed much. If you just losened her hair,she looks the same,but Valvatorez that guy shrinked a size. Well guess it's the reason for only eating sardines.

Agreed. It would make no sense for past Artina and present Artina to be exactly alike in terms of personality. After all, people can change a lot over the years, and 400 years is a LONG time for someone’s personality and tastes to change.

+Vei. Veitlark I hope Disgaea 5 has soe of the same emotional stuff this game did. It adds a real nice touch to these otherwise very comical games. :D The series is so fun! And underneath that fun.....hours of grinding and difficulty....Disgaea you torture my gaming soul and I love every damned second. >:D

Disgaea 4's biggest weakness is lacking a proper ending. I love the cast of 4 the most I wish we got more with them.

I think D4's biggest weakness is the main cast lacking real character development in the main story except Emizel (ironically after ch.4 he gets completely pushed to the side) and characters having a running gag that they refuse to stop using, even after it gets old (Val with sardines, Fuka with her denial, Desco with final boss) Ironically, this story is Fuka and Desco at their best, because they finally shut up about their gags They're all great in my opinion, it's just that the writing did major disservice to them

Just thinking about this but how is it nagi managed to make it to Hades when Valvatorez said only DEMONS, ANGELS, OR THE DEAD COULD ENTER. This leads me to believe that thing in Nagis head is actually something that killed her. Because for one she said she slip and fail and woke up with that screw in her head. Two whenever duke asked if she wants to remove it Nagi adamantly opposed this. and three in normal story mode; if we go off theories you guys stated for disgaea time travel; then in normal story mode Nagi is NEVER mentioned when Valvatorez first tells this story and even artina never says anything about Nagi after all this goes down. So where's Nagi mentioned in the main story of D4 before this dlc came out?

It is later explained that both parties end up forgetting each other later down the road because the time differences in each netherworld differ from each other. Furthermore if I remember correctly one of the parties ask if they actually have met b4

It was better that they failed to save Artina. Given the fact the only reason she was able to become an angel was because of her purity. Also,if she was not killed,she would have died as a human,and would have never reunited with Valvatorez. So who knows what would have happened when Desco and Fuka returned. The timeline could have been changed. Given the fact that Artina died and the timeline erased them basically following the original story. So all in all,as depressing as it is,it was better that Artina died then. So she would reunite with Valvatorez later. By the way, Fuka and Desco really took out of the time leap. The developers could have made the time leap so much better by going with the original play and just have the player play the time leap as Valvatorez,and play through it as it was meant to go,rather than adding in ridiculous comedy to a serious event in the story. There is a time and place for everything,but comedy was not for that particular time leap.

I hope so much that artina and valvatorez will finally find to each other and end up together... I think it's destiny but this ending is a bit too open for my taste :/ even though I think both their feelings for each other ARE there...

That's the point,it's like an unspoken thing. The way that it was designed made it perfect rather than just uprightly saying it. Also remembering the story from the main game,you can actually see why Valvatorez was affected so much by her passing. If it was his promise,sure he would criticize himself since he's down to his word,and should have kept his promise. Though in all Disgaea games,demons are reluctant to the idea of love,well admitting it that is. Also don't forget that Artina was a nun at the time as well. So there were well complications at that time. The closet thing you actually get to their emotions for each other is 10-6,which by the way I am still laughing like hell whenever I see it. That was an accidental confession while he was getting into his speech,and as you can see Artina caught on to it,well and everyone else. At that point Fenrich just gave up. Though personally,I believe the game needs a part 2. D4 well seems incomplete.

Also one other thing. This game has quite an irony I spotted recently. Apparently Valvatorez speaks about how beings who commit sins are sent to Hades to repent. Ironically he fell to Hades and suffersd 400 years of guilt as his punishment. His goal was to become the symbol of fear,so you could imagine the amount of deeds he did out weighing the good he did. Thinking about it,gotta feel sympathy for guy. Even though he was vile,hell that was just torment. Though I suppose that is the price all of them pay for committing sins.

I just thought of something that they forgot about, if Nagi (the one we know) is in this timeline then would it be bad if they met the other Nagi of this timeline (soul since a human cant live more than 100 years). Two Nagis in the same timeline. Meanwhile Artina and Val will know Fuka n Desco in the future while they dont know them
